  • The extra distortion on this video is amazing.

  • Phil Lynott for ever.....

  • Great, great, great performance. Lizzie kicked some serious ass!!! Usually their live performance of this song was faster paced. This version is pure perfection! Phil's voice was spot on as well. What a great fucking band. Thank you for posting this.

  • Les Pauls and Marshalls

  • Superb vocal harmonies as well!

  • They all look as high as fuck in this video. Its great!

  • kickass phil lynot, dueling guitars.

  • Phil Lynot = Coolest dude ever to walk the planet.

  • Come back Robbo, all is forgiven !

  • this is the closest thing to the fountain of youth!!!!!! that looks like rock n roll heaven & Rock Gods

  • this is the closest thing to the fountain of youth!!!!!!

  • WaWWWWHHHHHHHHH!!!! Love it!

  • MY THIN LIZZY'S ALL TIME FAVORITE TWIN LEAD LINE UP, ROBERTSON'S PLAYING OF THE WAH,WAS ALWAYS AWESOME!

GORHAM ANOTHER SUPERB AXE SLINGER! THNX FOR POSTING!

    10+*****!!

  • Yep. This kicks ass. Saw them in Omaha in '76. 4 bands - $5.

Thin Lizzy - Slade - Nazareth - Ian Gillan Band

    Fantastic show.

  • Rules this world

  • This is incredible. Thin Lizzy's an extremely underrated band.

  • @flamenewt EXTREMELY!!! First band to experiment with dueling lead guitars. ;)

  • @ 2:19 - holy shit - that is about as rock and roll as it gets - this is one of the finest TV-stage performances I've ever seen!

  • Crap this band was good. Lynott's Vocals, Gorham's Guitar amazing,Just listen to that solo , Lynott's Bass work. Fuuuckkk!!

  • @danbau08 - Would have to say that Brian Robertson's guitar work is more of standout here (he is on the wah...). Gorham is the guy with the best hair in 70's rock though...

    Lizzy were gods!

  • @trinzeon Ah yes,he was the wah master. Frickin amazing solo.

  • @trinzeon Ah yes,he was the wah master. Frickin amazing solo. These guys get totally into it.

  • Hey you, good lookin' female, come here! Oh yeah.

  • "Tonight all systems fail!" Still one of my favorite R&R tunes. Incredible.

  • None of my friends know about Thin Lizzy, and the ones that i show Thin Lizzy all think im weird and stuck in the 70's but you know what? I am stuck in the 70's and proud of it!

  • @tplessner4

    amen brother

70s and 80s were just fucking awsome....

and if you see the music today even the 90s were great

  • Isn't it tragic how Thin Lizzy is ignored as a hard rock / heavy metal band. Just found out that Scott Gorham is American, and that these fellows came from sides of Ireland ( I mean Robbo and Downey ) that tore each other apart mercilessly in the later years. An American, a Englishman, an Irishman, and a Northern Irishman. That makes a helluva unique sounding band.

  • @ufofan1980 Robbo is a Scot! No English in there either

  • Phil was so incredible. He had an amazing voice, a great stage presence, and fantastic looks.

  • What a band. fk oasis

  • I would LOVE to see this restored (not someone's cheap 'HQ' version of it).

  • oh, hell ya!!!

    Liz-)

  • by far their best version... never heard robbo's dedication on backing vocals lol

  • Comment removed

  • THIN-FREAKIN-LIZZY!!!! this is a kick your ass song. how cool would it have been to see these guys playing this. RIP Phil, what a great voice

  • Right on Brotha!

  • @tarheelredbone43 Saw this line up in 1978. Still think it was the best gig ever

  • Robbo = king of the wah wah.great performance from one of the greatest ever rock bands.Phil Lynott will never be forgotten.bono is a nobody compared to Phillo

  • want*

  • Thin Lizzy don't have 1 lead-Guitar they are just 2 lead Guitars thats why they got famouse all over the world why do you think Iron Maiden got famouse well cause they just took the same thing, Thin Lizzy did with ´2 lead Guitars playin solos after eatch-others. You van't cover this song you'll need Rhtym for it only 2 Guitars can do that.

Thanks For posting best line up after Snowy White and Gorham!

  • who plays lead guitar in this song

  • Let's face is, Phil Lynott truly was a rock God. Had it not been for an early demise, he would have become an ultimate icon for rock n roll music, similar to what Robert Plant has become. Regardless, Phil will always remain a legend to me, and to many others as well. Hope you're living it up, wherever you may be, Mr. Lynott.

  • This is mind blowing - I'm just imaging this in HD Video/HD Audio - how spectacular that would be. Absolute pinnacle of the bands success and Phil's genius. Classic tune, amazing guitars and pure showmanship... damn it but modern 'music' depresses me. No innovation, no soul, no energy - I take heart in the fact that while the pop spiel will soon fade into the ether - men and music like this will live forever. PPL - RIP.

  • There used to be a clear version of this on YT about 2 years ago - IT RULED.

I think there's a version of Emerald on YT from the same show which I think (but not sure) is from a tv show hosted by Rod Steward - yes he had his own show for a little period in the mid 70s where he would have a band on. Lizzy definitely were on it and I'm sure this is it.

Robbo's backing vocals by the way are awesome on this.

  • Oops, I meant Rod "Stewart".

By the way, I get the feeling this was INCREDIBLY loud in the studio. I really really wish the Thin Lizzy people would put out a dvd collection of their tv performances - there's this, the midnight special stuff in America, the Jim Will Fix It performance of Hollywood with the granny on keyboards (awesome clip), Phil's solo studio performance of Johnny The Fox tracks and a shitload of other stuff. Come on - give the people what they want!!!

  • I have this complete show in perfect quality. I'll try and get someone to post it since I don't know how to do this stuff.

  • Any luck getting the hi quality version of this - that would be cool!

  • @yourtubesteak Any luck getting this in high quality for us Lizzy nuts online :-) ?

  • @ronanccurran I totally forgot. Let me see what I can do. I'm going to need some help since I don't know how to do this stuff.

  • Actually, this was a one off TV special in England called "Rod Stewart: A Night On The Town". Long John Baldry was also a guest.

  • Ah... cool. Thanks for that. Awesome - I can't wait to see the quality version. Of the 20 or so different live versions I've ever seen of Lizzy doing Jailbreak, this performance is the best. I love the huge sound they've got here.

  • Agreed. Classic rock ftw!

  • Damn! Phil Lynott played that bass like a lead guitar before punk was even born.

  • Smokin version- listen to Robo smoke that wah-wah.

    Long live Lizzy!

  • Thanks for posting this vid. I saw them live in 80 and a good show. Shame he had to OD...a star in the making.

  • tractorlad1 im a real lizzy fan and im only 18,age has nothing to do with appreciating the music, this guy your giving out to is entitled to his own opinion and who are you to say who is a real thin lizzy fan anyway? btw gary moore is an amazing guitarist and incase youve forgotten he co-wrote roisin dubh(black rose) one of lizzys finest tracks?he was always there for the band,he steped in to help when eric bell quit and again after robbo(who i also think is outstanding) left.

    yamahasimon

  • You've got to be the only person on any Lizzy video to be spouting baseless hate. Just go away. You're jealous of genious.

  • I don't see how he fucked the band up, he wasn't in there for very long.

  • how do you make that out

  • It's just based on how long he was in there for.

  • Thanx for posting the greatness on my B-Day!!!! It Fookin Rooks!!!!

  • That was great!

  • some rippin guitar

  • robbo's on fire \o/

  • Jailbreak is actually a metaphor for radio airplay...

  • Tough as nails.

  • Wow, Brian Robertson 1:00-1:11

  • Ah, i realized after i made that comment...probably not Moore...but still ripping hot...thanks

  • yes, it´s Scott Gorham .

    He´s still underrated.

  • Wow, Gary Moore 1:00 - 1:11

  • WOW! great clip! robbo's wah KILLS on this.

  • lizzy commercial?mega talented lynott forced to do a single and it still came across as loose and dirty.god bless him

  • Wow thats an incredible version i'm scared to say it but i think it comes pretty dam close to live and dangerous

  • I think it's better than L&D!!

Sounds more like the studio version which I always thought sounded heavier than L&D!!

  • I plug in this CD and dance with my five cats with a laser pointer. This one is their favorite. My wife thinks it is hilarious. This band didn't need to be as commercial as they were. They were awesome.

  • Great video with a great lineup...Robbo's tone is just killer - @2:50 he is nailing it..!! Thanks for posting.

  • jesus that is the best wah pedal tone ive ever heard

  • @EricJohnsonisgod so good right!?

  • @EricJohnsonisgod best wah solos anyones heard i think

  • OMG. their both using their les paul deluxes, this is an AWESOME VIDEO

  • 2:18. Give me a break. lol. These guys are tearing the roof off like a Demolition Crew!

    F'ing Bad-ASSES!

    Miss you Phil! RIP.

  • I really starting to love this band. It is the best music I´ve ever heard, not like the the shit you hear today.

  • Does any DVD with this clip exist?

  • It's just from some tv show they did - definitely not available on any official release. It sucks - because it's awesome and my favourite live version of it.

Definitely about 2 years ago somebody else had this same clip up but with clear picture and clear sound! But then it disappeared - sucks.

  • i know he's not here lol i was jsut saying he does..TOO

  • god damn I love this song.. and Gary Moore kicks asssssssss

  • Lynott is such an amazing presence. I'm pissed he couldn't have made more music.

  • who is the guitar player with really long hair?

    scott?

  • yep 666, thats Scott Gorham.

  • gorham was a legend so was robbo! the quintessential line up

  • actually this is Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson..

  • i got jailbreak on LP.. Fantastic sound

  • i have live and dangerous on lp!

  • great stuff.. I picked up renegade and a few others.. iive and Dangerous hard to get... nice one..

  • legendary

  • The solo should have been on the studio version.

  • another one for A Ray L K

  • Thin Lizzy is all rock music of all time, certainly. Phil Lynott is the god of rock

  • Great Rock! Gary Moore and Phil Lynott, why says more?

  • Love Thin Lizzy! But i stopped listening to them for a while, dunno why, lol.

'Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak,

    Somewhere in this town'?

They tend to happen near a jail. hahaha

  • Err ... I think it's called allegory!

  • Brian Robertson

    Gary Moore

    Scott Gorham

    Phil Lynott

    and the drummer..they all ROCK

they understood ROCK...no one touches them

Not even Alioce Cooper and Queen, who are my favorites, but no one rocks out like THIN LIZZY (or Tin Lizzy, as Phil would say)

  • Phil Lynott = BRILLIANT!

Thin Lizzy the most rocking ever!!

  • ROBBO!! ROBBO!! ROBBO!!

Thanks for your videos mate! you made my day! This is Lizzy at their best and Robbo is on fire!. Thanks Thanks thanks!

  • Robbo is the 'Wah Master"

  • I can't say enough about this, the single greatest rockers in music history!!

  • Awesome clip.Even though the quality is old,the performance rocks!!.Thanks mate for sharing, you're a good man!

  • This is from Supersonic, right?

One thing that always strikes me when watching stuff like this is, aside from the great playing, is how cool the bands looked back then. Most bands nowadays just look slobby when they go onstage.

  • This is by far THE best live version of this great song! Love Brian's back up vocals;Phil at his best as usual!! Thanx gdeggdeg...BREAKOUT!!!!

  • I agree. I've never heard Jailbreak sound so good and loud - and particularly for a TV show. And yep, Brian's vocals are awesome - I just wonder why they never really get featured much on any other live stuff? Maybe he was too drunk.

  • Hey Dude, glad you agree! Im sure alcohol played a part in the demise of Brians back up

vox, oh well! Just wish more live Lizzy sounded this heavy!!

  • HEY YOU! Good looking female... come 'ere!!!

  • That was bloody fantastic.

  • BREAKOUT

  • man you posted some great stuff!!

  • Now thats a jailbreak.....too effen crisp!!!!
