  • Tech columnist David Pogue uses Dragon NaturallySpeaking to dictate many of his articles for the New York Times. Might be worth a try!

  • who is this>>? what does he teach>?

  • @GYKhasinnews This is Dan Ariely. He is a pianist...

  • Perhaps try using swype, maybe with a wacom tablet or something like that? (I kind of like the odesk idea too--could be very interesting as well!)

    Good Luck!

by the way, where are the FAQs?

  • Could you dictate more of what required typing? Doesn't Duke provide you with an admin asst? or a student worker?

    * have you looked into pro transcribers? (these websites are all dot-com: transcriptionstar; castingwords; transcriptionlive; productiontranscripts)

    * could you phone a handful of virtual assistants, who would type out what you needed mturk; odesk Less efficient (and perhaps more costly) than voice recognition, but likely much less frustrating to use.

  • I'm guessing this video is addressed primarily to those you are in email touch with, possibly including students. I my institution (UK university) we are piloting other ways of communicating to reduce excessive email use, including using video like this one.

  • How about Dragon Speaking Naturally software?

    Youtube video:

"Dragon 10 Preferred NaturallySpeaking Demo In Word"

  • Is it because of your accent that the voice recognition isn't really effective? Have you tried putting on a Californian accent?

  • I appreciate how open you are with your impairment. I could consider it inspiring to the disabled how candid you are.

My question: Why not put some of those brilliant MIT engineers to work in developing an interface to reduce your strain?

  • Time to get an Android device. Voice input anywhere you can type.

  • It's so nice to hear an academic being so candid, but obviously very sad to hear about your hands. I hope you work out a way around the problem.

  • Totally understandable. Now if only we could get past the current speech recognition challenges that we have.

  • quit writing e-mails.......keep writing books.....i love your books.... =)

  • Why not use speech recognition?
