  • What a load of bs... Can you have your silly discussions outside and let people enjoy the music ? This has nothing to do with Vitali. Just a bunch of egomaniacs. Get a life.

  • Glad there are other Folia nuts in the world besides myself.

  • your all wrong, in the XVI century, goerge washington came from england by boat and started the colonize florida and thats why washington is now in florida

  • @QcMori7

    Dafuq?

  • La Folía (Follia) is one of the oldest remembered European musical themes. It originated in the Iberian Peninsula. There are at least 64 known versions of this theme composed over a period of 200 years.

  • i Love This <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

    thanks for upload.

(p.s. Please stop fussin folks..you're destroying the music)

  • @thisgalaintdancinmr THANK YOU! Posting all this fussing shows only how far people HAVE NOT come!

  • That's a start; (let's hope) of your journey to better yourself as an individual and stop shielding your misery by vague cultural historical and social notions.

    Regards back at ya!

  • I have never heard this folia before. It is one of my favorites now! I could never have possibly imagined any sort of transformation of the early folias to something this unique. Vitali surely deserves great credit for this masterpiece of his excellent perception!

  • Folle come un folle, oppure, folle come una folia al vento?

  • Come esser pazzo :)

  • Very special piece of music. I love Vitali's music and all of Italian baroque. Quite possibly the greatest music ever made!

  • Actually here, Vitali was carrying-on an old Baroque tradition of writing a variation on the classic piece by Lully, "Les Folies d'Espagne" or, "The Follies of Spain". Many composers have had their hand at this: Vivaldi, Corelli, Guiliani, Marais (to name a few), and even me!

  • so XVIIè !

  • awesome ! thanks for posting .

  • I love the Folia.

It shows the Grandeur of Portugal, from were it came, and the grandeur of mighty Europe.

    Cheers!

  • The grandeur of mighty Europe. You mean the Slave Trade? In those day Europe was a loose collection of opposing nations, fighting each other to death. There was no such thing as "Europe" back then. We (Northerlings) hated you (Iberians). The grandeur of mighty Europe.. Please take a few history lessons.

  • In fact you don't know what you're talking about.

There was already slave trade before the europeans reached the Americas and Subsaharan Africa.

It were the europeans the first to question slavery and to think in the slaves as humans, in Spain, in the XVI century.

Europa back then was the light of mankind, wharever you like it or not.

And again, wharever you like it or not, that's Europe.

A continent of different nations and cultures.

Today's Europe is an adulteration of it.

  • You suffer from a high degree of wishful thinking. I'm not talking about slavery in itself, but about the cruelty involved in the European slave trade. We Europeans certainly made a few bucks first before "questioning slavery" etc. In the meantime 2000000 perished ONLY on the crossing of the Atlantic. Not to mention the countless beaten to death by the "light of mankind". I don't know where you got all that from, but it's a load of nonsense. And todays Europe keeps you're country running.

  • @PortugalIV What an idiot you are, and what a nerve to display your condition on the internet!

You should carry a bucket for your german french and british masters to take a piss.

Instead of dwelling on a hand picked aspects of history and companseting for the lack of honor in your life, You should aspire to become something more than a dormant fascist!

my brazilian roommate used to say "Europeans" originated by a pathetic french guy trying to say "your penis" in english.

  • @feritkarakaya

I feel only pity by your miserable and pitiful comment. Regards.

  • @PortugalIV That's a start; (let's hope) of your journey to better yourself as an individual and stop shielding your misery by vague cultural historical and social notions.

    Regards back at ya!

  • @feritkarakaya

    LOL

What a pitiful load of shit you are.

  • @PortugalIV takes one to know one a. hole:)

Certainly hope you're an organ donor, there should be some compensation for the waste you are bucketboy!

  • @feritkarakaya

Yeah, yeah. Lotta crap talk, no serious discussion whatsoever. Typically idiot talk.

  • @PortugalIV Well said.

  • @PortugalIV Yes europeans did not originate the idea of slavery but what exactly is your point?

The europeans were most certainly not the first to question slavery and think of the slaves as human.

Slavery and other types of exploitation of the Africans under the dutch and other europeans was by far worse than any non-europeans. Furthermore, the european slave trade involved exploitation of their own people.

  • @PortugalIV Europeans were not the first to question slavery, sorry but you're wrong

  • @ExitForMusic

Be a nice chap and show me who before the Europeans was claiming that, after all, Africans too have a soul. Show me who before the peoples of Europe debated and questioned slavery and please, please show me who before the Europeans made laws against slavery. Want a clue? I'll gladly give you a couple of facts:

    1. the first recorded anti-slavery legislation is Spanish, and is the Leyes Nuevas;

    2. the first recorded debate over slavery is teh Valladolid debate. Go read about it.

  • @ Voxhunden; the history lessons you took were obviously not good, or at least very biased. Proper history education teaches both sides of the story and one cannot deny this was the (cultural) blooming period of this continent. Proper history education also teaches us that feeling guilt or pointing blame for ancestors is something you're not allowed to do, as they're emotions caused by something you can personally influence. Really, you think making people feel quilty over 17th century helps?

  • (a) traditional history focuses on the economic and artistic glory, not on the oppression and religious madness. That was my point.

    (b) I was talking about lessons to be learned, not about people to be blamed. It's nice to look at the lighter sides of the past, it's more educating to look at the dark sides as well. And indeed very relevant to us, because as we speak our world is moving into a state of religious madness once again.

  • (c) Anyway, I'm allergic to all expressions of social, moral, racial, cultural and historical superiority, regardless of their source.

Europe is a continent amongst continents, with its successes and failures, like any other. But calling us the "light of mankind", mmm...

  • If you combine the might of all the countries back then, no matter how divided, they were fairly influential to say the least, apart from slavery. Look at the progression in art, philosophy, and science that was birthed in Europe. Maybe it is you who needs a few history lessons (no offense to you personally, seriously).

  • Europeans actually got their science from the Arabs. Who got it from the Greeks. Who got it from the Phoenicians (language), Egyptians (geometry) and the Middle East (astronomy). It's all a bit more complex than the Hollywood delusions show. The origin of the number zero, possibly the greatest breakthrough in human thinking, is disputed, but it's definitely not Europe. My only point: there's no such thing as a "light of mankind". BTW I am European, and I couldn't care less.

  • Who is playing the flute ? And the harpsichord ?

  • Beatiful interpretation with recorder flute.
