What makes the Jail terrible are the overpaid guards. On almost every Division, all they do is sleep at the desk and only wake up if there's a fight or a stabbing. Other then that, they let the inmates and the gangs run the jail. Tom Dart, your doing a great job! NOT!

I spent a week there. Misdemeanor. Nobody in there is innocent. Luckily I got house arrest due to overcrowding. I promised myself I would never end up back there. That was 3 years ago. Good luck to you if you end up in there. If you are smart, you can make it. If you are a big mouth or a smartass, you will be dealt with, either by the guards or the gangs. Chicago is no joke. My apartment windows were broken by gangbangers thinking that the guy who lived in the basement lived in my apt. because he was always sitting in front and he was from a rival gang. I needed to send a message to the whole block, but I acted too harshly. I paid for the windows but I had to spend a week in County and it sucked

I won a settlement for wrongful imprisonment, and a jury gave me a 22million dollar punitive award because I am a diagnosed claustrophobic, and keeping me in a cell instead of military style housing was considered "cruel and unusual punishment". (The dept is appealing the 22million award, may never see that portion).

i did 8 months in Cook County before going to prison. I went in 1998. The county, imho, was ALOT rougher than the entire 7 years in prison. But I did my time & got out & aint been back since, I did not like either place, but the county was the worst.

I opted not to join the lawsuit because I have heard stories of shakedowns, framings, and harrassment by CPD and CC sheriffs against litigants in these lawsuits. The worst part was, they filed me as a domestic terrorist and now that is on my record for life.

I spent a week there. Misdemeanor. Nobody in there is innocent. Luckily I got house arrest due to overcrowding. I promised myself I would never end up back there. That was 3 years ago. I won a settlement for wrongful imprisonment, and a jury gave me a 22million dollar punitive award because I am a diagnosed claustrophobic, and keeping me in a cell instead of military style housing was considered "cruel and unusual punishment". (The dept is appealing the 22million award, may never see that portion).
