@TypingTreeFrog I'm curious do you people go around on YouTube.Com looking for parades to rain on? Or is Rochester your favorite? Any other customs we have that don't fit into your perfect little world? The one where you got your customs from who? Adam and Eve? Probably having some grog and mimicking the apes ...
@BigCheese462 BTW if you visit the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle website you will find this artilcie
"All things Scottish bring hundreds to Tartan Day" In the cavernous arena of the Main Street Armory, the sound of bagpipes set the tone for the annual National Tartan Day Celebration.
Dozens of people, many wearing some piece of tartan clothing, including kilts, toasted Scottish culture there on Saturday.
"I've always been a bit jealous of the Irish tradition of St. Patrick's Day ... "
@BigCheese462 I'm sure those in your country are proud to have you representing the Scottish Culture ... LOL BTW, how we doing with Santa and the Easter Bunny ?
@BigCheese462@BigCheese462 Dude, we're not as anal as you. Plop down 75 bux, put on a skirt and play kazoos if you like, if you happen to be Irish that's a bonus ... They got DOG units, some are all Irish Setters, but they got other DOG units that are full of mongrels wearing green ... nobody cares ... Enjoy :)
@BigCheese462 Anybody with $75.00 can enter their group into the parade. There are awards and prizes for best groups, and other competitive aspects, giving winners credibility when they request to take part in larger parades. We love our pipe bands here, they are almost always found at any respectable public event / ceremony this city has. It wasn't long ago there was much hatred for the Irish, in the USA, and Rochester . My Mother was proud to send her kids to school wearing green :)
There are not irishman or scots. They are ignorant americans who dress up as scots/irish and pretend to be something they are not whilst excusing their strange behaviour as "celebrating our heritage".
I wonder if it makes them proud to pretend to be something they are not
The city of Rochester was built by Irish immigrants. Per population ratio it is one of the biggest celebrations in the entire country. And yes, to some of us it is a celebration of our heritage.
ive been in this parade before i was an irish dancer for 6 years and i have irish roots i know im not an immigrant but i celebrate my irish roots on st patricks day
The Irish have their own culture, never understood why they have adopted pipebands, kilts and tartans as this was never part of their culture or history.
I've noticed, since my beginning of youtube adventures, that its the englishman, not the irishman, who cannot help themselves but to hate on and pick at the traditions and ways of the United States! The US is a nation of immigrants. It always has been, and always will be. Dont you see, people come here....they dont go out. Dont be upset because your traditions have found a home in the USA....you fucks
sure, most of us are born and raised here, but our roots, our heritage, and most of our family's history's come from other areas of the world. The united states is a young and learning country. When i said "nation of immigrants", the above is what i meant. Almost everything "american" actually comes from europe, or another part of the world... For me, an "american", a person who likes all people equally,it is frusterating to listen to people generalize americans into one stereotype.
I hate the fucking word heritage, it means fuck all, it just means your ancestors come from another country. why do you even call it heritage. why cant you just say im american and some of my distant ancesotrs who I have never met came from elsewhere.
I have an irish father, I dont feel the need to drinkgreen beer and dress up as a leprachuan once a year and blame it on my "heritage". I am happy being scottish I dont have to pretend I am something else
the green beer is just for fun. people dress up in green, to represent irish roots. They dont commonly dress up as leperchauns. And never do we "blame" our traditions on heritage. Rather, we try and represent it. Why are you so bitter in such a monumental way? Ok, so you dont like the way we celebrate....bug off. put down the scotch, go find a woman or get a puppy. Try to smile more. If you cant cheer up a bit, then stop breathing in all that air.
I'm totally with you there gaelicscots! I'm sitting here boiling at this Disney-esque plastic pastiche of "Irishness", really fucks me off. And what the hell are "irish" pipe bands doing marching to British military rhythms and decked out in Scottish regalia? Please! Oh..they could be..'Scotch-Irish'...my arse!
I know you posted your comment 4 months ago but I just wanted to make this point. The problem for a lot of people is that to suggest you only have roots from one nationality is ridiculous! Most people probably have a mix of nationalities in their ancestry. What is it about having Irish Ancestry that makes people focus solely on that one heritage? I think a lot of Europeans suspect that it's because Americans have a rose tinted view of Ireland that many of us see as bullshit.
skipping fuckin bogghoppin tatty munchin preist cock suckers, and what the fuck is a British military style pipe band doing in amongst that pile of shite playing scottish tunes
Perhaps there were, and I did not film them? You are only seeing 10 minutes of a 2 hour parade. Perhaps you should bring one or sponsor a unit in the parade? It only costs 75 dollars to enter.
The tricolour covers all Ireland.green for catholics and orange for protestants. The Northern Ireland flag was abolished in 1972 by the british government when stormont collapsed. NI has no flag.
Not at all, this video was made up of 35 second clips from my still camera that I spliced together. I'm a former USN Crypto tech 75 - 79 ( CTO3 ) with 2.5 years on the USS Enterprise CVN65. In fact, I've emailed photos of the njrotc to them, but never have heard back. ron webmaster @ RocPic

desperate try hards mate. Wannabe's. Pretty pathetic really.
They have their own culture, tradition and way of life. Why do they need to pretend to be Irish?
Italian Americans get on my fucking tits as well. All they ever say is "mama" and "spaghetti" in heavy Italian accents.
Irish Americans, Italian Americans. Wake up you silly twats. You're not even from the same continent as Ireland and Italy.

boppaloppagus america is NOT a nation of immigrants. how can you be an immigrant if you were born and raised in america. ?
the vast majority of americans are not only born and raised americans, but are 2-5 generattions removed.
I personally cant stand listining to yanks calling themselves scots without having set foot in scotland.

let me rephrase my words: The United States was founded, and started by immigrants. Our roots stem-out. Why are you so angry?

fair enough. but on St. Patricks day, we dont celebrate "ourselves", rather, we celebrate our "roots"... Whats the problem with that?

At least it's not like Boston, where offensive groups want to march inappropriately to embarrass the decent Bostonians.
