The 7th Cavalry was entrapped the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. The 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers rescued the 7th Cavalry.
Read the novel, Rescue at Pine ridge, the story of the rescue of the famed 7th Cavalry by the Buffalo Soldiers, and visit website; rescue at pine ridge. com. The novel embodies Native Americans, Outlaws and Buffalo Soldiers, in the days of the Native American Wars with the approach USA. Story is about, brutality, compassion, reprisal, bravery, heroism and gallantry.
If Garryowen is a 'reb tune' then how come it's the march of the London Irish Rifles? Last time I looked they were a TA unit of the British Army. Tiocfaidh ar la? Bet you had to look it up to spell it. Both sides who used the gun are scum. Nice tunes shame they're wasted on the misanthropes above.
@STPATSCM92 why watch this video if you hate loyalism?? I don't watch IRA videos and i defiantly dont comment on them. Republicans can watch and comment on their own videos as much as they want and loyalists can watch and comment on their videos.
Comments above seem to deny history! Whatever the faith; or , indeed the South?North of Eire, brave people gave their lives. Maybe we should remember that?
Garry Owen was the Regimental Quick March of "The Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR). When the UDR merged with "The Royal Irish Rangers in 1992 to become "The Royal Irish Regiment" Garry Owen was droped as the Regimental Quick march and was replaced with Killaloe. was a big favourite with 87th Reg Royal Irish Fusiliers in the early 1800's, a belter of a tune and a belter to march to. so gets my vote, blow it o big lad.
Actually the origins of the tune are around 1014 AD and the original name of the tune was Brian Boru in honor of the great King who vanquished the pageans.
Hey jackass! The only reason that you have a free Ireland is because some Paddys with balls engaged the Germans in so many close quarter fights.Because of this the crown did not....did not renig on the promise of home rule.
Brave men of the UDA and UVF? A bunch of drug dealing scum who killed and tortured under the protection of the Brtish state. Their greatest heroes are tatooed drug dealers. No fucking wonder they lost.
Have you ever actually listened to the words of this song...this couldn't have less to do with the UDA and UVF causes.....a united Ireland is an inevitability.....
I'm a Loyalist & know Garry owen is a reb tune. It makes me cringe to think that the maker of this vid has posted it with the idea of Loyalism behind it.
Not that I agree with the tatics of terror no matter what flag is behind it.
custer did not have the band at the little big horn..there was no garyowen played during that fight..custer did have it played when he charged the village of cheyennes under black kettle at the washia river.. hope that clears that up it was an irish drinking tune as noted below great posts
it was also used by the 7th calvery tho thats a widely known fact since it was playing when the 7th under custerd was distoryed at the little big horn battle.
rapiddominace - sorry but you did not get there first its just another thing thats been copied by the states from this area of the world,America I believe is a great nation by the way,and I admire them but please know your facts before claiming that I am wrong.
to the guy who was a member of the rir and finds this video offensive. i wouldnt see eye to eye with you on most things im sure.but i couldnt agree with you more if i was a protestant\prod and wanted to do something for keeping ulsters british connections i would join the british army. not some undisciplined gang of rabble. of whom most of are on benifits bleeding the fucking country dry.
To be perfectly honest as an ex member of the Royal Irish Regiment i find it regretable that Gary Owen be used in a video which glorifies terrorism.Terrorism is Terrorism nomatter who carries it out and the UVF killed innocent people in the same way as did the IRA.The only UVF i have respect for is the UVF who fought in the likes of the Somme,The modern day UVF are not the same.Gary owen was the regimental slow march of the UDR and so to use it in this way i feel shows disrespect to them.
rapiddominace first of all I didn't say that Garyowen was the march of the Royal Irish (regiment) I said that it was the slow march of the Ulster Defence Regiment so I'm not quite sure what you are getting at.
Garryowen became the marching tune for the 69th Infantry Regiment, New York Militia,in the mid-1800s,who also adopted it before the Civil War and recently brought it back to combat in Operation Iraqi Freedom...
Garyowen - Emerged late 18th century as a drinking song of citizens of limerick Ireland.
Played throughout the Napoleonic war primarily by the 5th (royal irish) lancers, during which time it became the regimental march of the 18th foot (The royal irish regiment).
It has no USA connections until after 1852at the earliest.
More recently it was indeed used as the slow march of the Ulster Defence Regiment between 1970 - 1992 and not the Royal Irish as you also wrongly state.
May every member of the U.D.A. burn in hell for the crimes they've committed against INNOCENT Irish-Catholics who are yearning to live as they choose in THEIR country!
The tune means so much more to free men that have no king but God.If it wasnt for the Irish yearning to breath free as men in America it would be just another great jig.Peace on all, love one another, lets get drunk together someday.
Maybe you should remeber the soldiers and policemen who actually protected you, rather than glorifying a bunch of sectarian gangsters with a warped and, frankly, rather insulting fetish for Her Majesty's armed forces.
I take it u r the type of person that would not lift a finger if talaban decided to attack britan in a big way you would hold a white flag and expect army and us ex soldgers like me to protect your lily livered skin

Garyowen is the march of the Royal Irish?
I wonder who used it as an official march first. Us Yanks, or you Brits
We declared it official in 1868

I only asked if it was.
69th NYSM, if I am not mistaken, became the 165th U.S. infantry and is still part of the National Guard
That used in OIF was probably 7th cavalry, not the 165th

I know the song was around for a long time before any military unit used it as a march. Don't get so defensive and read what I asked.
