I have recently gotten interested in a RC Booster again. I had one and sold it the next day because I wanted something else, but now I think I might need it. What do you think? I heard you say that you were pleased with the clean tone of it or something. Do you think it's good?
@cosmogang I think it's one of the best boosters out there, if you want a clean boost in your rig, or if you need a solo boost. The RC and the v1 Fulltone Fatboost are the best I've tried.
I was just wondering how in the hell these guys afford all these boxes, man what an array of major coolness! I thought I had a wicked pedal board. My head would explode trying to decide which ones to use...
@CarvinTone hehe We don't! Well, at least for me personally, you buy a ton of pedals used, try them all out against each other, keep the one you like, and then sell the rest. And if you were careful when you bought them, you may actually end up making a couple bucks. :-)
I prefer the Fat Boost 3 in front of my OD followed by the high gains I use. This gives you the best options. Warning about stacking boxes, putting an OD after the higher gain will completey change the dynamics of the gain box. I for one do not like it. I dropped the VIsual Sound J&H for that reason. The Satchurator with either the OCD in front or the Fat Boost 3 brings it on. I really dig that Fat Boost, best unknown in the realm. And it is not really an OD kids.
@CarvinTone Very good info. Thanks! Ya, definitely a different animal depending on where in the chain you stack things. Makes for some great fun! Cheers!
yea!! someone finally puts the OCD tone control in the right place/ Use the OCD for dark push with less gain and it morphs with anything, rather uncanny. Before or after completely changes the dynamic. I use my ODs in front of my high gains so they so not screw uo the dist dynamics. When stacking you do not over gain the boxes the physics are different. OCd rules and I dig that Hermida.
out of all those OD.. which one is the best stacker..i want to stacked it with a fuzz, which one would you recommend, i have a fender amp..hoping for some suggestions..thanks
Honestly, the Tim has been the only pedal that I've had consistently good results stacking with a fuzz. Fuzzes seem to be notoriously terrible stackers, but somehow the Tim still manages it. :-) Hope that helps!
@bigskymind81 ....I use an OCD (ver 3)stacked with a Hendrix Fuzz. It works awesome on the bridge pickup. I run it on the LP mode with the tone at around 11 o'clock and the gain around 10 o'clock. Gives me a nice eric johnson or Bonamassa sound.
to my ears i liked the ocd.. and i just got one i tried it out once and let my guitarist deal with it but i dunno i just didnt get that tone i heard everywhere else...whats the settings you have on it?
Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact settings I had it on in this video, but I'd guess the tone is rolled off to at least 10 o'clock, and then I've got a good deal of gain on it, and then volume is set to get it just a bit above the amp's clean tone. Also, I'm running it at 12 volts, which really seems to help that pedal. Hope that helps! :-)
I don't exactly remember, but knowing me, it's probably mostly bridge pickup, and then neck pickup if I mention anything about 'bluesy tone.' :-) Hope that helps! Sometimes if a Les Paul isn't giving you the right sound, raising and lowering the pickups can help a ton! A lot of times the bridge pickup is set too high stock, and can give a harsh sound because of it.
i tried it... didn't work out/ i think it got worse.. care to share some ideas on how to get a tone similar to urs? not taht i'm trying to copy you but for a clean tone i really like urs
No worries! Typically with raising and lowering pickups, it works the same as vocals on a microphone; the closer you are to the mic, the more punchy and dynamic it sounds, but get too close and you've got mud, gain, and clipping. The further you are from the mic, the more spacious and warm it will sound, but get too far away, and you won't have enough punch and clarity. It's the same for the most part with pickups. You've got to find the sweet spot, and it's different on every guitar........
.......as for clean tone, what's your signal chain as far as gear goes? That'll give me a good starting point on how to advise for clean tone. And I bet it's better than you think....everyone always hates their own sound. I know I do. hehe And if you'd rather e-mail me, you get my address off of my blog. :-) Cheers! Hope that helped a bit.
Well, it's a Holland with the AC30 tube complement, but a slightly more Fendery circuit. It's a really odd amp, but I've yet to hear another sound quite like it. So I've got the bass rolled off quite a bit, the mids rolled off some, the treble a bit past noon, and the presence a bit below noon. And the gain is set to just on the verge of breakup. An almost indistinguishable amount of reverb is set, too.
Um, probably the Tim and the Mosferatu. I ended up keeping those, along with the Varidrive for solo boosts, and the Skreddy for compressed high gain stuff. :-)

If i had the Zendrive at a kinda- low gain for rhythm and the mosferatu for higher gain rhythm, and I stacked them together, would it sound good?
29396 1 year ago
@29396 It's alright...but usually boosts sound better for stacking with either of those pedals. Like the SHO, Fatboost, or RC. :-)

@Passenger95
OK, I was kinda going for a nigel hendroff kinda tone, like on the Creative training 01 dvd. He uses a timmy and joyride there.

@29396 Gotcha. Ya, now the Timmy stacked with a Zendrive would probably be great. There isn't much a Timmy doesn't stack well with. Cheers!

@Passenger95 Thanks man!

@CarvinTone haha Thanks, man. Ya, those Hermida's are great, and you definitely don't need to crank the tone on the OCD. :-) Cheers!
