  • Put it on my tombstone!

  • Reach up and touch the Sky!

  • God bless that horn section!

  • This was at the Agora in Cleveland. I was there.

  • Pure Rock n Roll like it should be.

  • nice early Video

  • This performance is timeless and belongs in the Smithsonian! The tight band, the songwriting, arrangement, and delivery are the stuff rock and roll dreams are made of.

  • I had this song on vinyl years ago, and the song still sends chills up my spine. A most recognizable voice. I heard he's still working and touring. Hope he comes to Oklahoma.

  • Saw SSJ backing Graham Parker at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh - must have been 30 years ago - and they blew the Rumour away. And they were good!

  • @BaheidTommy U are so right; It was Monday 21st March 1977 and was and still is the best show i ever saw. Meet GP and Southside at Bruce's Record shop in Rose street too. Perfect Day!

  • @TheBurnsae

I missed that one, having become a fan after his 'Whistle Test in Concert (been waiting for the Beeb to repeat it on BBC4) but seen him a bunch since and I was at Little Steven's first Disciples tour at the Nite Club (upstairs at the Playhouse) featuring half the Jukes, which is still in my top 3 gigs.

  • Only discovered SSJ in 2006! Saw him live at the Blues Club in Newport, Rhode Island the day before Labor day that year.

Was, and always will be, the best 2.5 hours of music I will ever see...

  • I think I remember him from some years back and he really can sing his ass off . It is good to see he still keeping up . I believe he still remember me too, way back in the day.

  • Real heart & soul music!!!

  • NOBODY sings like Southside ..... works as hard as Bruce and is even better. OMG ... he signed all my LP's ... who does that anymore?

  • You did the BEST Concert at Union College during the 1980"s

    Thanks

  • This might be The Ritz in NYC.Thanks Glammer.

  • I have to try this song next for karaoke

    Maestro Holland

  • Live forever Johny. Love this song!

  • great johnny...S O U T H S I D E forever

  • Southside johnny is cool. Does anyone know if i can find their song "Vertigo" ANYWHERE on youtube??? Or anywhere at all, on the net for that matter. It's our favorite one...

  • Saw this understated band twice in San Diego and once in Edinburgh where they were back up band to Graham Parker & the Rumour. They blew Parker out of the water and he was pretty good! The only time I've seen a support get back on stage twice they were so well received.

  • WHO DOESN'T LOVE THIS!!?

  • I hope I can see him in concert before I die, he is one of the greats,,,

  • Get the Agora 8/30/78 concert DVD. I was there. Awesome. It is available on line. JJ

  • I miss his long hair... but it doesnt matter, he still rocks balls.

  • I thank the lord for this ... LIVE ON JOhNNY!!!!!! AND ROCK ON FOREVER!!!!!!

  • thsi is fucking awesome.. he is much older .. but I still recognize his voice... ROCK ON JOHNNY!!!!!!!!! Your one of my idols...

  • this show was from washington d.c. club. it was shown on showtime in 1983. showtime had a concert series thing going at one time

  • this jersey girl always thought southside was the best. anybody remember a concert like around 1979-1980 in milford, pa, where patti smith opened and southside & the jukes followed? what a great bill that was. can never get enough. thanks.

  • Southside J. I saw you on long island at "My fathers Place" 5 times and each moments of those nights live inside me It was the a REAL Rock n Roll Party for me and nothing has beat it since I still place "I don't wanna go home"

at least once a week Love the Boss but you are the closest 2nd he will ever have

    Rick-O

  • Disagree with ya here..

Watch B. Springsteen and Johnny do this song together (You-Tube it).

Springsteens voice comes in a distant second.

Also check out this SSJ Tune on You-Tube Kirchners Rock concert. (Found footage posted a couple months ago) Great stuff..SSJ was supurb in this one!

  • 1981

  • nice to see this again.we were all children

  • Still the best concert I ever went to, back in the 70s. Over in the USA, Southside headlined, over here in the UK, Graham Parker and the Rumour headlined. Awesome night. Both bands had brass sections. At the end of the night, all twenty musicians and singers were on stage. Both full bands, both brilliant singers. What a night.

I saw them in Sheffield. Amazing atmosphere. Two healining bands pushing each other. I wish I could go back and see that show again.

  • This concert was in UK? I l am a huge fan of both these guys. I couldn't image them on them same bill!!! Must have been one kick ass show..

  • Great taste fella..

I've seen both bands live many times, but I can't remember if I've seen them both on the same bill..

    Question..

Anyone remember the 1977 Crystal Palace

    Garden Party ?

Southside simply blew the place away....

  • think that was good try this ssj tour:the jukes with opening bands clarence clemons and the red bank rockers and gary us bonds.

and thee greatest jukes tour ever in i think 1979 when they co-headlined with the j. geils band. yes!

  • yeah thats def 84 era. you can tell just by looking at ssj and the fashions. he's got more paunch than our earlier 80's/70's era johnny.

  • It's from the live-VHS when he tried to go commercial. Got an album out produced by Nile Rodgers I think. It's a bit wrecked by those stunts, but the good ol' SJ stuff worked like hell. His jacket went in song #3, his shirt was soaked after #5, and his jeans was visibly soaked to his balls when he got off the stage.

He also had a struggle with throwing off his sun-glases...

  • I may have the year wrong, that show is definitely from the Bayou Club, Washington, D.C., but it's 10-18-84 not '81 best that I can remember

  • i think it may be '81 as he is wearing his live album reach up and touch the sky clothes and haircut.

ps -- ive seen the jukes like 40+ times. long long time fan since the first record.

  • Yes, this is from the Bayou Club in Washington, D.C., I think the date of the show is 10-18-81

  • this is definitely between the summer of 1984 and winter of 1985. george ruiz joined in summer of 1984 and billy rush left in the winter of 1985. band lineup here is - ssj-vocal, billy rush-guitar, kevin kavanaugh and rusty cloud-keyboards, steve becker-drums, george ruiz(not gene boccia)-bass, frank elmo (not joey stann)-sax, bobby ferrel-trombone, and mark pender-trumpet.

  • I just noticed it says on the tape, 'Washington 1984.'

  • I've said it once, I'll say it again...

SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD

  • I agree..or at least one of them. Should have been up there with the E-Street band...

  • looks like mid-80's to me, Steve Becker still on drums, Billy Rush on guitar, Gene Boccia on bass, Rusty Cloud and Kevin Kavanaugh on keyboards, and the only one in the horn section I recognize is Joey Stann on tenor.

    thanks for posting it
