  • This really reminds me of axl rose...and thats not good. first the scientology news and now i see this. I'll try to forget it and keep the image of the intelligent, beautiful and artistic human being I had of cedric.

  • yeah maybe the "typically white people" thing was too much but later on during the festival a girl named jessica michalik died from asphyxiation after she was crushed in a mosh pit so cedric wasnt totally out of line, was he?

  • I hope he lightens up when they play at my home town because I'm going to go fucking insane

  • "I have a microphone and you don't" I love it! Believe in the Volta and stop bitching!

  • The Mars Volta is one of my favorite bands but he's a self-inflated douche. The whole "i'm pissed at my own crowd because i'm a weird misunderstood artist" routine is pretty old. Most of the "white" people slam dancing probably liked his band before that. Who gives a shit what the crowd is doing as long as they are listening to you. Good way to treat people that like your band enough to be at your show slam dancing. I've never been to a M.V. show and i'm white. Imagine what he would think of me.

  • When you play your music, you are moving like crazy and doing stupid thing on stage, I guess you can't help it and I love that!

When we hear your music, we want to move like crazy and do stupid thing on the crowd, why don't you let us do that??

  • LOOOOOL he thinks he is grea and funny. but hes not funny and he cant sing for balls. he reminds me of one of them loud annoying fucks that nobody likes. seriously, i think he went BAAAAAHH BAHHHH like 5 times at the exact same volume.

  • BAAAAAAH BAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jessica Michalik,

  • I am a robot... I am fixing myself (in the robotic voice of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit.)

  • He completely lost, if any, respect I had for him. Never mind, I didn't have any for him. It was Jim Ward and Sparta who I really enjoy.

  • Art Farts. Word Turds. Action Speaks.... Money talks. How much for the t-shirt?

  • and later that day some girl was stepped on to death

  • Actually the man is speaking the truth , sure maybe in a little over the top way but I get it. Honestly I can't stand slam dancing and mosh pits. What does slamming into each other like total fucking morons have to do with enjoying music ?

  • People like a little bit of punishment every now and then, and Cedric knows it. Does it look/sound like anyone in that crowd is displeased?

  • This is why you don't do shrooms before a concert

  • son of a bitch -.-

  • Never heard a man speak like this man before.

  • Fuck. Yes.

    I. Love. This.

  • guess i cant have fun at a rock show! suck it cedric!

  • fuck this dude for insulting his fans. if people wanna have fun at your shows in some weird way, wtf does it matter? noone ever died by crowd surfing. shut the fuck up you fucking pretentious sheep

  • @majorboogie1991 Actually, someone died at this show from slam dancing.

  • @majorboogie1991 That response is even less measured and reasonable than whath e was saying.

  • this is ironic cause people have probably watched this on their TV

  • I wish Cedric would incorporate those sheep noises into his vocals.

  • Mosh pits he's ANGRY someone died. Get over it. At least these idiots are still alive and acting like idiots. Someone died. Moshing is stupid and I have gotten hit and knocked over. I've also been at shows where one of my smaller friends fell down and almost got trampled. Scary shit.

  • Wow, I love At the Drive-in, l listen to them everyday but seriously, Cedric is a pretentious prick and I would break his fucking face if I had to hang out with him for too long, lol.

  • Personally I see moshing as a dance form and an expression of the music, you just get lost in the music, I don't see a problem with that but some people in moshpits do try to show off and take it way too far, these people are probably the ones Cedric is talking about. However, I've seen people get knocked down in circle pits etc and everytime people have stopped straight away to help them up.

  • If you have a group of guys moshing, looking out for each other, helping people out if they get stuck, keeping it to one area and making sure that no-one gets themselves genuinely hurt, then fuckin' A. People can do what they want, but within reason. When you have an army of inconsiderate dickheads rollicking around with their fists flailing just because they think it's "cool" without thinking of the people who might not be able to handle it/don't wanna mosh, THEN we have a problem.

  • @451harri That show only be done at core shows. I'm sorry, but I love hardcore dancing. It gets out so much energy. It's not meant to hurt people. But sometimes during certain parts of songs (breakdowns) you lose it and can't control yourself and CAN people. I've gotten hit many times and I don't care, I just continue throwing down. Because there ARE bands that promote hardcore dancing. If a deathcore vocalist says "Fuck this place up" before a breakdown. That means they wanna see hxcx dancing

  • @Alexilaiho6Six6 haha "vocalist"

  • @451harri CAN hit people*

  • Did anyone else catch his "white" comment? anybody gonna discuss that juicy little nugget of vague racism? Or are you just going to cry because you once got an accidental elbow in the eye by a guy in a GWAR t-shirt?

a good moshpit is a little violent but SAFE, there has NEVER been a metal band who encouraged their fans to get seriously hurt in the pit

the crowd at this show was a bunch of kids who knew nothing about moshpit etiquette, it needs to be learned and they learned the hard way

  • @jacksonlefteye Im white and i wasn't offended; white people probably invented moshing (I don't know much moshing history, I'm just guessing because the majority of metal fans are white guys; no offence).

  • @jacksonlefteye When I saw Oceano at The Palladium, before their last breakdown, Adam said 'Find someone who isn't moving and make them fucking regret it"

  • If you are listening to music with someone as brilliant as Cedric in it and feel the need to express yourself like a child with rowdy behavior rather than an adult with ration thought and the ability to think critically than you are an idiot... not to say it is excusable if you are listening to other music... but to waste a message in such a way is deplorable.

  • the point of moshing is jump around to the music and enjoy it not hurt anyone (albeit there are occ assholes) but he should be happy people love his music and it makes them wanna move. whats sad about that? i'm not a 'tv-robot', but i go to mosh have fun, not just watch (that sounds more like a robot to me). i want the experience in person, i get too into the music to stand still. i know that guy said people die, but thats where you're responsible for yourself. and did he pull the race card?

  • Smite the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered.

  • Everybody should watch Fugazi's Instrument... There is a couple good scenes of what I envision people doing at a good show... Mosh pits are for, well... assholes!

  • Haha that was really weird and kind of funny!

I don't really get why you'd mosh to the Mars Volta they're not that kind of band, and people getting at him, you weren't there; if it looked like things were getting dangerous (and apparently someone DIED here) it was probably the best thing to do. Who knows maybe if he didn't stop people moshing more people would have died...

  • @andthemushrooms123 This was before TMV, when Cedric and Omar were in ATDI. ATDI was post-hardcore, which is music that's easy to mosh to.

  • @EmptyInfinity1 Oh crap sorry you're right there, well that makes sense then.

  • I'm so with Cedric. Moshing is the most stupid thing to do on a concert. If i wanna get in a fight, I go into a bar and slam somebodys beer to the ground.

  • HA!!

  • I love cedric and ATDI, and i'm not a huge fan of moshing... but jeez, it's kinda hypocritical to play the most raw & pure musical energy in the world and then criticize the crowd for going crazy. If you don't want people to go crazy then don't invite it with crazy music...

  • @NickB33 there is a difference between a energetic crowd that is probably just jumping up and down, and people climbing over each other, shoving each other around, crowd surfing, etc.

  • Up and down motherfuckers

  • Here's how I see it: there's nothing wrong with moshing, but there is everything wrong with intentionally trying to hurt people while doing it.

Although I don't really understand how he "put them in their place", all he did was sound silly and dramatic.

  • What's so good with moshing? He was not a dick, he just wanted to ensure people's safety!

  • Dude I love ATDI and TMV, but cedric is kind of a dick, like hes a great musician and I have mad respect for the guy, but from what I see at shows I really cant justify liking him as a human being.

  • i love the way cedric talks

  • This song is fucking kick ass, I wish they did more noise muzack.

  • moshing has been around longer than MTV so he is stupid. People were moshing at punk shows in the 70s and early 80s before it was ever publicized on MTV

  • I remember in the early 90s when there was a big push by all these alternative bands to be against moshing. I just don't see why people would mosh to that kind of music anyway.

As far as his comments about it being a "sad say" when "...the only way to express yourself is through slam dancing...", all I have to say is WHAT A DICK! Calling people sheep for moshing? Really?! Granted I'm sure anyone who would mosh at a Mars Volta or ATDI show is probably a huge tool.

  • SYDNEY CUNTS!!!!!

  • @NSOMH he's talkin about the "silent majority" which, who wants to stand up and admit you're part of that? And i seriously doubt it has anything with him taking acid or not.

  • @NSOMH bahahaha where did you get the idea that cedric does acid? even if he did, so what? You obviously dont get the point on what hes saying to the crowd. Hes telling the crowd to calm down, and he defintely doesnt think hes better than everyone, but wants people to recognize how to become independent, at least thast what i took from this.

  • who learned "slamdancing" on tv??

  • @rickytic1 Crowd surfing was invented by car commercials, I think slamdancing...probably Pepsi?

  • @rickytic1 Pepsi propaganda created slam dancing.

  • Sorry, but the cocky skag head gave this exact same speech at Sonisphere... He is such a non-conformist. Wanker.

  • tbh he just hates it because he believe that its not fully expressing yourself. not being yourself. look at how he dances, who did he learn that form? haha

he only wants to keep his fans creative.

  • I would of threw my shoe at him

  • "lol typicaly white people" wtf? That sheep thing is so cliche. Moshing/slam dancing is fun. This guy is irratating and pretentious.

  • @angiec789 It's true though, it's a white person thing ;D

  • @angiec789 Someone died at this particular concert because the crowd was too crazy, so Moshing/Slam Dancing is nothing more than a destructive act that is fun for few and irritating to the masses. This band actually cares about their fans and would like to keep them safe, unfortunately this was not the case considering someone died.

  • I have been wanting to see this forever.

  • He's speaking for music lovers. People who wana hang out and listen, ppl who want to dance, ppl who don't want to be violent. I'd rather be in a crowd with a singer saying things like this than in a crowd at a Pantera concert where phil anselmo is saying "i want everybody to beat the shit out of each other in this next song, don't let anyone hide up the back or in the corners, drag em into the middle and beat the shit outta them".

Yes he actually said that, it's in a video somewhere on youtube.

  • hahaahahah

  • can someone tell me what he is saying? my english is not so good

  • whats wrong with a bit of moshing?

  • @mp2611 people can die... I dont know, that's nothing right

  • @Redeemedsinner17 wow you sound like an absolute barrel of fun

  • @mp2611 >> well shit

someone died only a couple of hours after he said this

because of douchebags who wanted to throw their dicks around

  • @Redeemedsinner17 to be honest i dont give a shit about any of this i dont even know who "cedric" is, i dont even like metal music, if thats what this videos about. i originally commented because i was either drunk or high and i couldnt even remember what my first comment was when i put my second comment, so yeah, cool, seeya

  • @mp2611 It's not even metal you moron.

  • @DaltonPaquette shows you how much of a shit i give about it, what is it then, rock? punk? frickin jazz? who gives a fucking shit

  • @mp2611 It's post-hardcore.

  • lol cedric is just methed out

  • To everyone insulting ATDI for this you should know a girl died at this same festival later that day from asphyxiation in the mosh pit. A teenage girl with her whole life ahead of her was ended because of this crap. Someones baby didn't come home because of a bunch of douchebags who wanted to be tough guys.

If it's at a smaller show with bouncers and security to control the surges and a band thats cool with it then mosh away. But at a show with thousands of people someone can die. And she did.

  • @BlueAvenue22 A warning to the crowd is well deserved, but Cedric is just as incapable of expressing himself as is supposedly the crowd he addresses. It is not punk or inspiring to call people sheep, or "white" for that matter, when they do something you don't like. I know what he meant about being "typically white people", but he might as well said "gay" instead for whatever the fuck "white" means. All I get from this speech is Cedric does not like/respect anybody that isn't just like him.

  • Wow... what a colossal anus

  • @AspireAndInspire agreed, i remeber this, to stand on stage and put on such an energetic performance and think its as easy as that to tell people to sit still!? fuck off! ok lets not rip each others faces off but we are paying to see them perform not berate us, he could have been a little bit more respectful of his paying audience. stuck up "artists" disconnecting with there audiance.

  • @keef78 without your stuck up artists you wouldn't have your music. what goes around comes around buddy

  • 276,000 view! yaaay me!

  • Cedric, just shut the fuck up and sing. Awesome music but i bet he's a pain in the ass

  • there is enough violence and hate in this world already...

  • Its all fun and games till a girl dies at a limp bizcut show the same day. I think cedric was on to something? yeah...I think so...you obviously dont care about the music if you mosh. I dont care how much fun you had moshing at your favorite punk or metal show did you catch if they did anything different at the show? or see the passion in your favorite artists eyes as they give you there soul on stage? no you saw flesh and hair and sweat and blood. and you moshers say cedrics the homo...baaaaa

  • @RyanTh3Lion I love Cedric to death. He's got to be the best vocalist in modern rock music today. I just wish Fred Durst had done the same thing Cedric did. ANd I'm a Bizkit fan as well, but...damn, Fred..

  • cedric is awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • i see nothing wrong with slam dancing. but at the drive in isn't really a slam dancing kind of band.

  • faggot

  • I feel very privileged to have been at this show. It was just about the best half-of-a-set that I've ever seen. This moment just made it all the more memorable.

  • later on that day a girl died while limp bizkit played. cedric warned the crowed not to be doing that shit and a girl had to die

  • was this the concert were that girl died from the crowd like moshing and shit? limpbisket watever their name is was playing

  • @BlueEyes72 Yes it was.

  • the pit has lost it's energy a long time ago.

  • i'm Mexican and i like white people there music is great

  • @MegaDeftones1 wtf???

  • Comment removed

  • I learned it from one of my first metal concerts, not TV or internet.

But i think it belongs to the hardcore scene, not to this.

Btw, it's not about expressing yourself, it's all about getting a kick and having FUN.

  • @Dinfulatub i still find moshing stupid im there to enjoy the music not get pushed around like an idiot and hell ive been to a few shows where ive been outside of the pit obviously not participating and ive been pushed down and nothing pisses me off more than that

  • @CHICKMAGNET66666 wel if you're in a good pit they put you back on your feet

  • @CHICKMAGNET66666 fuck off stay home then

  • @droctagon3k So because i dont like people acting like retards and oushing either other around i shouldnt go to a bands show to watch them play? Have fun being a immature little piece of shit when you grow up you can have an intelligent conversation with me.

  • @droctagon3k HAHA! Yeah... You're a douche... It's cool though! Cause you're a douche! :D

  • @glasseecube Fuck off too. ha ha fake laugh lol ha ha lol. Your a douche fuck off, its cool though. - Dick brain.

  • im just glad cedric is mexican like me...... and also like me has to put up with white trash in the punk scene

  • @CoriDeanna

You're a racist idiot. Nobody cares if you're Mexican, or that Cedric is Mexican. Mexicans are no better than white people, and vice versa. It's how you conduct yourself as a human being that matters. Race has fuck all to do with it.

  • you must forgive Ced for going a little nutso, this was his heroin period.

  • Stupid arse fucker

  • I think its kind of funny how Cedric has always tried so hard to come off hispanic, because whenever I look at him I basically just see a white kid with a whiteboy fro. He always credited himself with his last name Bixler until he started using Bixler Zavala in TMV, too.

  • slam dancing is for pussies with no dance theory!

  • like Cedric's attitude. U R A ROBOT. U R A SHEEP BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaa! LMFAO! So fucking funny

  • Best TMV video ever! Cedric, I love you! LoL

  • @ShinyHeartDiary this was when ATD-I was still around

  • I want some of what Cedric is on in this video.

  • one of the best memories in my life was going to a local joint punk+garage gig. the amount of hipsters who came to dance to the garage was overwhelming. and then, after a couple of garage bands played, the punk band set up, their support of around 10-15 ppl came closer to the stage... and as soon as the first powerchord was played, we went to fucking beat the shit outta hipster wankers who were still close to the stage - old school way.

and that's all i have to say about this.

  • what does being white have to do with anything? i agree with him otherwise though.

  • @hurley1 i think what he was trying to say is that by moshing and wanting to hurt people at a show is a very "white" or in other words american thing to do cause americans males seem to think they have to show how manly they are by hurting smaller men... or some shit

  • @onlyeyesabove This is australia, but fair point.

  • I love head banging and going wild wen listening to my music, but I do it in MY HOUSE or somewhere where I can do it without harming anyone else. Wen I go to concerts, I go for the MUSIC!! that's how it should be!

  • "hi im cedric! im better then everybody else and im a racist!" Love this band. Hate this douche.

  • Tsk, Tsk, Tsk.

    Fucking white people.

    You should all be ashamed.

    BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

  • hahaha shows over cedric thinks hes a sheep XD

  • @Pozer626 LMAO

  • He had every right to say this, and I agree with him, considering a girl was killed later on. Can you blame him for being right? She'd still be alive if they took his warning.

  • tooooo much acid

  • Shit's offensive to sheep.

  • Mars volta is cool but their singer is an annoying little geek. We get it bro, you don't indulge in contemporary media.....lol The guy knocks slam dancing while thinking his jacking off the microphone and spinning in circles looking at the sky is sooooo unique and expressive.

  • @breastmilkdabestmilk and u think slam dancing is.

  • @AckAttack77 no but if that's how you choose to express yourself, then it's fair game.

  • @breastmilkdabestmilk though i certainly wouldn't have cedric's approach, i do agree, i guess this is what happens you're you're on stage, and drugs, and have a microphone.

  • @breastmilkdabestmilk Cedric's speech was on the matter of safety. Whether he indulges in "contemporary media" by slam dancing or not (whatever that means), is irrelevant.

  • This guy is such a fucking egotistical douchebag. Jesus Christ, get over yourself.

  • he sounds like a douche

  • this video was filmed at the Big Day Out in Australia. these fans are amoung the most unruly and uncooperative group of fans you will ever come across. Bands like Slipknot and Korn who have performed there send out the message to go wild at these events whereas Mars Volta give out a different message

If i were Cedrick i would just stop playing and leave, if people cant' enjoy the music for what it is then they should have stayed home and watched it on TV

  • she didn't get trampled to death, she died of asphyxiation.

  • @xthreadx by getting crushed... can't breathe when theres 20 400lb dudes on top of you huh

  • cedric has all the right to do that.. how retard can someone be saying that if he pays the entrance to the show he should be able to mosh without someone calling him something?

1- You are paying money to go somewhere to hit and get hitted?.. just fight some random guy in the streets for free :/

2- You have freedom to stomp and hit other people but other people don't even have freedom of speech?

3- He can do whatever he wants in HIS show, if you don't like it don't pay and go there.

  • @sebaba001

Cedric states that the jag-offs were slam dancing as opposed to moshing. The level contact is the same, but slam dancing comes in 2 flavors; traditional hardcore punx/heavy metal style and metalcore faggotry.

Neither is appealing, as its distracting having to avoid drunken dipshits with the acrobatic skills of a necrotic turkey.

I guess moshing isn't all to different, but it usually isn't about punching one another in the face or starting unnecessary bullshit.

  • @DamnationDude12 yeah absolutely ! you're right

  • fuck off jables.

  • Funny thing is....Mars Volta aren't doing anything new. Surely people go to gigs to enjoy themselves, who the fuck is that pretentious douche telling people what to do. He dances on stage like an idiot, rips off lights and tells people to do something new, maybe he should listen to his own advice. Such a pretentious cunt. Obviously I will be receiving replies from Mars Volta fanboys, but either way...it doesn't change the fact that this band hasn’t actually done anything new. Fuck Mars Volta.

  • @Jables100 I agree that he's pretentious and that people go to enjoy themselves but I agree with him that moshing or slam dancing is stupid. He expresses himself through DANCE and singing. Moshing is not dancing. Moshing is something invented to break the people around them's glasses. But he shouldn't have stopped the show to say that.

  • @Jables100 , who do you listen to.......precisely.

  • @Jables100 Maybe he just doesn't want the few white trash redneck douchebags who aren't there for the music to ruin it for the real fans that want the right to be able to enjoy things without some cunt smashing into them.

  • Comment removed

  • @Jables100

    Troll, troll, troll.

You don't really offer much in terms of an argument, just stating that TMV are pretentious and unoriginal.

    That could be true.

But it's an obvious deflection for a thinly veiled stab at TMV.

Holy shit, am I trying to advocate logical discourse on youtube?

    Talk about a lost cause...

  • @DOOMSayaar

lol. Trying to reason with a troll is like trying to resuscitate cat food.

Some people on YouTube want a logical conversement free from personal prejudices.

But unfortunately these people are pretty hard to find.

I tell you what really gets on my nerves at the moment though: 'I can't belive how many people like X when they could be listening to stuff like this!' - where X is a new popular band such as Justin Beiber.

  • @Jables100 Well, you're entitled to your own opinion bro, but honestly, what band ever goes through any significant change? Regardless, if you actually listened to the albums, you'd notice how "different" they each are. Just don't judge something based on your own opinions. Looks like Cedric isn't the only pretentious douchebag after all :3

I hate to be feeding the troll on this one, buuuut i needa defend what i believe in ;]

  • If Cedric tell me off. you know what I would say.... yes sir

  • "you didnt learn that from your best friend! you learned that from the tv! YOU'RE A ROBOT!"

  • Comment removed

  • And this is the prime example of why you shouldn't do acid every day.

  • what a baby

  • ugh shut the fuck up

  • i just like listening to the music haha

  • @Rk12329 music?

  • i love TMV..but that white people comment broke my heart ='[

  • I hate moshing, people do it at the most inappropriate times.

  • What a pretentious thing to say. Permitting you're not moshing to hurt people and feel tough, I'd say there's nothing wrong with it.

I used to mosh, and it was some of the greatest times of my childhood.

You're not a "sheep" because you're doing something you truly enjoy. That's ridiculous.

The kids are in there because they CAN'T express themselves physically, and moshing is that release.

  • @stabyourcat

He is not referring to the fact that they enjoy it, lol. Listen to his words. He is claiming they learned it from all the wrong ways (i.e watching the oh so glorified TV).

And what do you mean they cannot express themselves physically? They can't fight on the streets so they beat each other up at a rock show? There are other ways to express yourself, it doesn't have to be violent.

Not to mention a girl was killed later that night, with that in mind, Cedric voiced a valid point.

  • @mason9236 "He is not referring to the fact that they enjoy it" That's exactly my point. If you enjoy it, then do it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fully against moshing to take out aggressions AGAINST people, or to use it as a tough guy excuse. And what I meant by they can't express themselves physically is that, these are the kids that can't dance, they can't just "let go" and "let the music flow through their body". That's just it. Moshing is that physical release they need.

  • Right but my response to it that was that he is attacking them because they learned it from the wrong reasons. In other words, they are conforming.

And, your point about dancing DOES make sense; however, being a bboy I don't believe in bad dancers. Lot's of people "can't" dance, based on the fact they do not know any dance "moves". Moreover, most dancers will agree that if you feel the music, let it flow you through you and move to it, you are dancing. With moshing, that is not always the case

  • @mason9236 You make valid points.

It's cool that you say there are no bad dancers, and you should just let the music take control. Ideally, that would be great if we all could do that. But we can't.

And saying that learning moshing from the TV (I would have thought they learned it from a show) is conforming is like saying buying a motorcycle or playing video games is conforming.

You don't like it, that's cool, but it's not cool to judge people saying they're sheep that watch TV all day.

  • @Brollyhero99TOP10 you cant really say anything about smoking and a girl dying from a pit when your that high.
