i have a 73 f250 thats only 2 wheel drive and i live in colorado, in the mountains lol and all i do is throw some sand bags over my rear axil and skinny tires the limited slip rear end and the truck is heavy as hell ( real american steel) and i havent gotten stuck in it ever its all about the driver
@xboxkiller1264 thats the beauty of this test. It is all a giant waste of time. Anyone tackling a snowy hill will not say to themselved "oh jeee my fuurd f-teen thousand can make it in 2wd", they will use AWD where i bet the difference is very little if any. Now if your truck doesnt have AWD then what are you doing on an icy hill. Although bragging rights means that getting up a hill with only 1 wheel of power is best
Ya but here is the problem we own an f150 there is no traction off button which means if you want to roast the tires off or go sideways you can't for very long
@finonm7 same here i have a 2009 f150 and it does have a traction off button button it still engages when i spin the tires just delayed a bit longer which sucks ass
Everything depends on conditions. If each vehicle equipped the same 4x4 capability. Heavy Vehicle is not always better than lighter one's. Going up hill with lots of dips and rocks heavy vehicles will loose the race. On even or smooth surface with pretty high level of snow cover heavy vehicles will come out as better trail-blazers. Or on uneven muddy surface heavy vehicle will be on hard time to go thru. But when, again, on even muddy and slippery conditions, heavy would look better. Each has
For those of you who think Tundra is better than a Ford check this video out. No BS, no bias, just real eyeball test. Seriously you can't spin this test - no excuses.
I had a 2007 f150 and it broke down a lot so i got a Silverado, but to my surprise it was even worse. Everything fell apart in only one year. This year I ended up getting a Toyota and so far it is still doing good.
All Americans do is eat donuts n buy big cars that handle shit n stick silly big engines in them cus then can't produce big power out of a much smaller engine. Get the landrovers on there they wuda shot up the Sloap towing one of those heavy bags of shit up there
@215alessio you are proof that idiots abound. Your probably one of the re-tard-os in the ditch with their 4x4 cause you think that's all it takes. Kook
Dumb, the Chevy and GMC have available locking rear diffs, and both shown here are equiped with those. Had they not hammered the gas pedal (which is what you are not suppose to do on icy and snowy roads) the diff would've locked up, making them go up the hill no problems. This test was driven by idiots, and not just the gm vehicles, the other brands as well. Must be a bunch of southern drivers with no experience in an actual winter situation.
Im a chevy guy.Ok. They lost this test.Ok. But when I see its icy or snowing,I put my truck in 4 wheel hist or 4 wheel auto.Im not gonna take a 40000 dollar truck down the road and see if it will go in 2 wheel drive in icy conditions. That why I got a 4 wheel drive.
so my question is why did the Chevy's outside tire ( on pavement) still spin as well? It almost seems as though maybe the brakes were being applied as the trucks were going up hill? I dunno I've watched it a few times and I question that part.....most trucks suck in 2WD anyhow...that is why my friends they come in 4WD, most people would just use it, instead of spinning the shit out of the rear tires!
Ok so American logic= Slippery surface, lets see how the trucks perform with RWD instead of using 4 wheel drive like any person would do. I am not a fan of trucks but seriously, is it slippery you switch to 4x4, just logic.
@Jimpank90 You're actual somewhat wrong there. If it's slippery you really, really shouldn't engage AWD, only if you actually get stuck. The reason is simple: If you lose control of your vehicle with AWD and slip in every single wheel, you lose all control over your vehicle and your next destination is the ditch.
… oh and the test is a total joke everyone. When testing traction and comparing different cars, a good idea is to use tires of the same make and model. I say no more…
@AHSauge Why stay in RWD when it is slippery? Then you risk loosing control more easily. A little to much gas is all that is required. An AWD wont loose the grip that easy, it needs you too really force it to loose grip.
@Jimpank90 that wasnt the point of the test. they were testing the traction control systems. any 4wd with full lockers will come out on top anyday. for example, the dodge powerwagon and the jeep rubicon. i own a tundra and the traction control sistem is shit in the sand or when you need momentum to get through...
So let me get this straight.... they went to/ and were allowed to use the GM proving grounds, and found that the GMC/Chevy didn't do so good? wtf were the higher ups at GM thinking? "Hey I got a good idea... lets let them use our proving grounds, to show how shitty our product is! Brillant!"
@kkrankie to me this was bias anyway the chevy with the locking diff worked just fine when it locked so idk what they were talking about but anyway i just put a locker in my truck so i could care less about this test lol
@kkrankie That was my thought. The ford and toy did better at the Government Motors, OOPS!!! I mean General motors proving ground. I guess they proved that GM are junk along with nissan and dodge.
What the hell chevy has locking diffs that's a plus I can tell they turned off the traction control off this is rigged real test the chevy and Sierra comes up on top G80 lockers perform better when the traction control is on and in this case somebody turned it off the tires would not burnout like that rigged that's all I can say more test like this show the real outcome
i really dont like traction control, sure it helps in this test but when you actually live ina slick climate. if you have traction control and your going up a hill and it cuts power it makes the situation worse
@FreeSkier155 Well you are right, but if you are going up a hill during winter and there are cars behind, the last thing you want to do is have to stop and pop the truck in 4x4 to make it up a hill. It could cause an accident from your truck sliding backwards if you stop too quickly from panic or begin to slip back before you can get it in 4x4. This test shows which truck would be most reliable in this scenario, which is just one of many.
@FreeSkier155 The purpose of the test to determine at what point the vehicle needs further assistance. 4wd can have just as poor performance wheel slip isn't controlled. When the vehicle is equiped with both front and rear lockers 4wd becomes a relevant test but with out a front locker there is no benefit to testing 4wd. My truck has front and rear lockers and would walk up that with out either wheel slipping because the traction to the good tire would be sufficient to move it.
um I thought thats wat 4 wheel drive was for, slippery shit. that test was stupid for trucks, should have been for rear wheel drive cars instead. cuz if u think about it if u had a truck that was slippin wouldnt u stop amd put it in four wheel drive?
@weedissafer so says you, a pro life nut? or maybe a ford nut? Nah you are just someone who doesnt realize that MAINTENANCE is the key to ANY vehicles life and success. Which must be the reason I see some many fords on the back of tow trucks. hmmm go figure.
@mohammedsidhu ever try to haul hay, horses, tractors, farm equipment, lumber, welding equipment, or really ny heavy load with a small car yeah umm it doesnt fucking work without blowing the tranny or burning up the clutch get good sized truck and there you go haul almost anything BTW i do own a small car and a big truck so go fuck yourself
@TheGreatWhiteTimmy To me it's dodges, though I still like them. Then again when it comes to trucks I like I usually think of trucks made before 1985. After that they're all pretty damn ugly. I mean what kind of a truck has more cab than bed. They look more like an SUV with a chunk of the roof torn off the back.
@TheGreatWhiteTimmy Any truck that is maroon and beige is ugly lol. Throw some nice wheels and tires on the F150 and they look pretty sick. And dont mind Timmy, he didn't take his meds today
if i know i was driving up somthing that i need 4wd, i would have engaged 4wd, not try to make it up in 2wd and a open rear diff. lol i sure wouldn't nail the gas to see if i can make it up unless i had no option or no 4wd..
Thats why you use 2nd gear in Fords to make it up steep grades that are slippery, way too much power for first gear on slick conditions. 2nd gear 2wd and 4 wd the fords would just climb with very little spin..
@ cb7pwn and iMPushyyy: Ya, ya, ya.... You guys are just another two jack-ass keyboard jockies....
If there isn't a true test unless "All" the variables are taken out. You watch the video, and what do they show you? They show you one tire zipping around and the other doing zip. Yes, the traction control / limited slip aspect is the a main factor, but you also have to take into account the ability of the tire to aid the vehicle to make it up the grade..... Think before you speak.....
if you got an electric locker why the fuck would you not use it of course it did the worst it actually had the best diff for that situation and these dumbasses didn't use it.
If people want to race into a 8 feet tall snow then a great way to choose is tundra, and ford truck to, but im not sure about ford engine will work if is in the negative degree, but i know that tundra that is below negative degree, the car still run great and the engine want sound funny when u took off, because Minnesota came a big snow once and the most that i see truck is tundra.
@kowal789 What they need is the same Brand and Model tire on each truck to be the same. If the tires are different , then the test is BS. Each tire has different ratings for different types of conditions.... Put a cheese ball tire on each truck and see what results you get from the test....
@hugo121175 hahahah tires? are you kidding me? as you can see, or clearly you cant, the point of this test is to show that trucks have "open" differentials... kinda pointless having "better tires" when one of the wheels isnt getting any power what so ever lol
@darkeyce02 hey, jackass, re-read my comment, open differential means 1 wheel is getting NO POWER, no power means it wont turn at all, wtf are better tires going to do if there is no power going to that wheel at all.. you fucking idiot
@cb7pwn hahaha........If you put winter tires (or even studded if it helps you visualize) on one and normal tires on the other it would obviously make a huge difference. Are you kidding me! That's a fun fact from when I was like five.................I can't believe people sometimes........
these trucks would benefit from better tires because one tire is slipping on the slippery surface, if the slipping tires were all the same then or even a better tire, it could have better grip. So, hugo is correct, tires play a big factor in this test.
@Red04MonteLS look, clearly your dont drive a truck.... if you have an open differential on slippery surface, meaning only ONE WHEEL is getting power, you arnt going anywhere regardless of what kind of rubber you have
if you have a tire that's designed to grip on that surface, you will be fine because all the power will be going to that tire made for that terrain or surface, just because all the power goes to one wheel doesn't mean you have to be flooring it -.-
there's a million 'coulds' in any situation, that doesn't mean that better tires wouldn't have helped in the situation in this video. you 'could' have all the you mentioned and go nowhere, or you could move through the snow with ease. So what you're saying is having all those things is just like have a standard highway tread tire in the snow? I don't think so.
@cb7pwn I agree, although the Nissan would have done the best with the selectable locker, the Dodge was also in 4 wheel drive, check out the water being thrown from the front wheels, 99% of the people here just don't get it, you are the 1%,lol
@0602720noeflores What? Are you some 15 year old kid that his parents don't know he's on the internet after bed-time?
What is the main reason for lose of traction? It starts with tires. Get two vehicles (Same Make, Model, Year, and Package), and then put street slicks on one and rock crawling tires on the other, and run this test. At the end it would have the Best & Worst Traction Control of any vehicle in it's class.
@hugo121175 hey just what this dude said "hahah tires? are you kidding me? as you can see, or clearly you cant, the point of this test is to show that trucks have "open" differentials... kinda pointless having "better tires" when one of the wheels isnt getting any power what so ever lol"
Complain to the dealers then... It's not supposed to be fair, it's a battle of stock trucks. What are you going to complain about next, weight, horsepower, weight of the driver?
@hugo121175 They have the tires that the manufacturer chose for them if they are bad tires than that means the manufacturer was cutting corners and that means there were other things they cut corners at = bad truck ...
Last i checked, tundras have an open diff, and this crap called AUTO LSD...which all it is is just glorified traction control ...It doesn't actually have any sort of mechanical limited slip diff. Damn shame IMHO
now thats offending, the GMC sierra is known to be the best pickup truck in the arab world and its been proven, im a 14 year old and i tried my brothers sierra and his friends ford f150, i found out that the only pickup that can kick the silverado and sierras ass is the raptor, not the titan, not the tndra, not the ram, not the stock f150, its the raptor, ive tried on road, desert, and rock, nothing beats the 2 monsters :)
It's one thing to come up with a way to simulate slick surfaces, it's quite another to impose arbitrary rules (i.e. no 4 wheel drive) to come up with an pointless result. Further. as can be seen in the video, the early passes got the "dry" asphalt wet, invalidating further comparisons. Testing design, control, and execution fail.
thumbs up if you think it would be fun to do a HUGE burnout on that hill lol

if i know i was driving up somthing that i need 4wd, i would have engaged 4wd, not try to make it up in 2wd and a open rear diff. lol i sure wouldn't nail the gas to see if i can make it up unless i had no option or no 4wd..
johnnyCham12 2 months ago 2
Thats why you use 2nd gear in Fords to make it up steep grades that are slippery, way too much power for first gear on slick conditions. 2nd gear 2wd and 4 wd the fords would just climb with very little spin..
robnleah 2 months ago
@iMpushyyy Tire's and traction tread are very important to how a vehicle will cope on this test.
Blunder1248 2 months ago
A real pickup truck does not have four doors, it has two. At least in my opinion

Think before you speak.....

as for the Titan
if you got an electric locker why the fuck would you not use it of course it did the worst it actually had the best diff for that situation and these dumbasses didn't use it.

Did all the trucks have the same "Tires" on them? If not, the test is worthless..... PERIOD!
hugo121175 3 months ago 77
@hugo121175 i think if all the tires are stock, from all the companies, its fair game.
kowal789 3 months ago 2
@kowal789 What they need is the same Brand and Model tire on each truck to be the same. If the tires are different , then the test is BS. Each tire has different ratings for different types of conditions.... Put a cheese ball tire on each truck and see what results you get from the test....
hugo121175 3 months ago
@hugo121175 i agree 100%, but i am saying that its also a good test to show what company gives the best stock tire for those conditions, lol.
kowal789 3 months ago
@hugo121175 hahahah tires? are you kidding me? as you can see, or clearly you cant, the point of this test is to show that trucks have "open" differentials... kinda pointless having "better tires" when one of the wheels isnt getting any power what so ever lol
cb7pwn 3 months ago 55
@cb7pwn its okay hugo doesnt know shit about cars or trucks
iMPushyyy 3 months ago
@cb7pwn he didnt say anything about better tires jackass... if its a traction test they all should have the same tires..
darkeyce02 2 months ago
@darkeyce02 hey, jackass, re-read my comment, open differential means 1 wheel is getting NO POWER, no power means it wont turn at all, wtf are better tires going to do if there is no power going to that wheel at all.. you fucking idiot
cb7pwn 2 months ago
@cb7pwn i did, he mentioned nothing about better tires, your a idiot... you need to re-read your own comment
darkeyce02 2 months ago
@cb7pwn limited slip diffs are not "open" neither is auto locking
superdooperbuuooy 2 months ago
@cb7pwn hahaha........If you put winter tires (or even studded if it helps you visualize) on one and normal tires on the other it would obviously make a huge difference. Are you kidding me! That's a fun fact from when I was like five.................I can't believe people sometimes........
7superduper 2 months ago
@cb7pwn
these trucks would benefit from better tires because one tire is slipping on the slippery surface, if the slipping tires were all the same then or even a better tire, it could have better grip. So, hugo is correct, tires play a big factor in this test.
Red04MonteLS 2 months ago
@Red04MonteLS look, clearly your dont drive a truck.... if you have an open differential on slippery surface, meaning only ONE WHEEL is getting power, you arnt going anywhere regardless of what kind of rubber you have
cb7pwn 2 months ago
@cb7pwn
if you have a tire that's designed to grip on that surface, you will be fine because all the power will be going to that tire made for that terrain or surface, just because all the power goes to one wheel doesn't mean you have to be flooring it -.-
Red04MonteLS 2 months ago
@Red04MonteLS you could have 4x4, studded tires/ snow chains, whatever, and STILL be stuck on a snowy road, even if the road was FLAT
cb7pwn 2 months ago
@cb7pwn
there's a million 'coulds' in any situation, that doesn't mean that better tires wouldn't have helped in the situation in this video. you 'could' have all the you mentioned and go nowhere, or you could move through the snow with ease. So what you're saying is having all those things is just like have a standard highway tread tire in the snow? I don't think so.
Red04MonteLS 2 months ago
@cb7pwn I agree, although the Nissan would have done the best with the selectable locker, the Dodge was also in 4 wheel drive, check out the water being thrown from the front wheels, 99% of the people here just don't get it, you are the 1%,lol
ziggystar1979 1 month ago
@ziggystar1979 They never said it wasn't, in fact they said "The Dodge Ram 1500 also required the use of 4 high to get off of the slippery tile"

0602720noeflores 2 months ago
@0602720noeflores What? Are you some 15 year old kid that his parents don't know he's on the internet after bed-time?
What is the main reason for lose of traction? It starts with tires. Get two vehicles (Same Make, Model, Year, and Package), and then put street slicks on one and rock crawling tires on the other, and run this test. At the end it would have the Best & Worst Traction Control of any vehicle in it's class.
Remove the variables for a true test.....

@hugo121175 well if they are just doing the base models then it is completely fair. you would have to modify to do all the same tires
DrakeGeorge3 2 months ago
@hugo121175
Complain to the dealers then... It's not supposed to be fair, it's a battle of stock trucks. What are you going to complain about next, weight, horsepower, weight of the driver?
Suck it up.
leaf16nut 1 month ago
@hugo121175 They have the tires that the manufacturer chose for them if they are bad tires than that means the manufacturer was cutting corners and that means there were other things they cut corners at = bad truck ...

now thats offending, the GMC sierra is known to be the best pickup truck in the arab world and its been proven, im a 14 year old and i tried my brothers sierra and his friends ford f150, i found out that the only pickup that can kick the silverado and sierras ass is the raptor, not the titan, not the tndra, not the ram, not the stock f150, its the raptor, ive tried on road, desert, and rock, nothing beats the 2 monsters :)
