My daughter is not Cat Woman! LOL. I'm a diabetic (type 1) and people say these things to me all the time. Once this idiot girl at my school was talking about how it's not really that hard to get rid of diabetes, even thought it is. Those were her exact words. She said that. To me. She knows I am diabetic.
Ok so we're talking statistics and the rarity of this disease, right? Yes, type1 is much more rare than type2 in Americans, however both my husband and 2yo son are type1 diabetic. Should I be going to play the lottery or something?
I don't have diabetes, and I know about it, but thinking that every person will know all about a rare health condition just because your child has it is beyond ridiculous.
If my son had Ectrodactyly and I met someone who asked if he had problems with fine motor skill activities, such as video games, I suddenly wouldn't be an asshole if I responded with some smartass remark and called him stupid?
Get off your high horse, no one should be expected to know all about everyone else's problems.
Diabetes isn't a rare health condition. As a parent of a type 1 diabetic I have people come up to me and say stupid things everyday. I try my best to educate them and let it go. I knew nothing about diabetes before my 4 year old was diagnosed. But what's annoying is when people tell my daughter that she will lose her leg or go blind. I don't expect people to not ask questions but I don't care for unsolicited advice from strangers, especially when it hurts my daughter.
@loldude83 Here's a question for you....do you go up to people who have cancer and inform them that they could die if they don't take care of themselves? The thing is, I don't think you do. I don't even think you would go up to my 6 year old and tell her that. Why would you? My daughter almost died when she was first diagnosed, I know EVERYTHING that CAN happen to her, I live it every second of my life and so does she. So why assume that we don't already know that?
@loldude83 I pray that you never experience the hell that we have, I pray that you never have a child with any life theatening illness, I pray that the next time you see a diabetic child or a mother of a diabetic child you show them kindness knowing that what they are going through is beyond anything that you can imagine. Your numbers are incorrect but you already know that. My question is why spread all this hate? What do you get out of it? I hope you learn from this, if anything at all.
@loldude83 If you want to ask us legitimate questions, go right ahead. Most of us will be more than happy to educate you. But we don't need you to educate us. WE've got the 'betus. WE've dealt with the fire-burn of Lantus and the pain of a misplaced injection and the vomit of ketones. We know the consequences of poor management. We've been through it with our pediatricians/endocrinologists/nurses/dieticians/clinicians.We've pretty much got it down. We don't need your help.
@loldude83 go troll a different video dude... seriously that was probably the dumbest response I've ever read... you are probably one of those busy body nosey people who say these sorts of dumb things to people... "oh you have aids?? did you know you can die?!?!"
@loldude83 it's not the fact that someone doesn't know about it... it's the opposite actually... when they think they are the all-knowing diabetic police. Again... no one would ever go up to someone with cancer or aids and forewarn them of their impending death.
The problem is that type 1 and type 2 diabetes have similar symptoms, they are two totally different diseases, and one of them should be renamed. Since 95% of all diabetics are type 2, much of the ignorance of type 1 comes from that. So few people understand what type 1 is really all about, and the fact that it's an autoimmune disease, not a disease of insulin inefficiency.
I hate being told "I hope you get better soon," so very, very, very much. Thank you for including that one!
I've been asked a lot about medical marijuana a lot, recently, and if it would make my symptoms easier to handle; I haven't come up with a properly snippy response that will make them stop bothering me about it, unfortunately.
While I didn't fall off the couch laughing, I am always amazed at the questions that are asked. If I feel that the person wishes to be I educated about the disease, I will share what I know and what my experiences have been having it for the last 28 years. Otherwise - raspberries to them.
my little sister was diagnosed with type one last year and i swear i don't know how many times i've heard "she'll grow out of it" or "my ~insert random family member here~ had diabetes and theirs went away." imma start saying poison or cookies... made with poison when people ask what she can't have. this made my day!!!
the sad thing is that people have actually asked me if it was bad that i had diabetes, tell me stories of their friends getting amputations due to diabetes, try to tell me what to eat when they dont know crap about what i can and cant eat, say "i could NEVER deal with diabetes", and a lot of other stupid stuff. -.- its sickening...
I'm a type 1 diabetic, and I'm doing a campaign on diabetes with my group in my class and I'm going to show everybody this because it's so freakin' hilarious :D!!!

Ok this video suckkkkksssss. I've never heard these before haha. I dont feed her cookies with poison. So dumb. Use real voices. One time my friend grabbed my apple and took a bite out of it and I told him it's contagious and a year later he was diagnosed bahahaha

my daughter is 3 years old and was recently diagnosed with type one diabetes. I have heard all sorts of nonsense from people about cures for diabetes. @ambermwild100 8-17 out of 100,000 in the US isn't rare? A 0.00001 chance isn't rare?
Getting struck by lightning is 0.00003.
You are more likely to get struck by lightning than have type 1 diabetes.
What the hell do you consider rare?
I'm not seeing how some random person saying the completely possible effects of having diabetes, if she doesn't take care of herself, is hurting her.
You can very easily die if you have type 1 diabetes, going blind or losing limbs is the least of her worries.
