  • Whow I am speechless, it`s great.

  • Wonder how pissed off he would be if a cell phone rang righti n the middle.

Its pretty amazing to see him so composed and really "into" his performance!

  • lol jerk

  • y u call me jerk

  • i dont mean to be jerk.

  • hell yeah!

  • This song is not on any of the Yoshida' s CDs. What is this song. It's really good!!

  • please tell me some good Japanese music, i am new to this style and it will help improve my music style so can you tell me what good Japanese music there is

  • Start with the Yoshida brothers then move on to Rin'. You can branch out from there. If you're looking for newer music like J-rock, I would go with coldrain, Last Alliance, DJ Krush is a good one and pay money to my pain. (They sometimes sing in English) There there is the hard core stuff like Gackt. I like Tribal Chair's Moment.

  • envy is also some good hardcore

Aqua timez is good poprock/reggae (sometimes)

  • it is. my external HD is currently with some problems, so i cant check, but it is in yoshida brothers I or II

  • the song is Tsugaru jongara bushi. However there is a principle in Tsugaru Shamisen tradition that says "Jongara bushi must never be played the same EVER! So even when you find it on Yoshida brothers CD it will not sound the same. The unique quality of Tsugaru Shamisen music is that it has to be improvised so you can never find one Jongara bushi that will sound exactly like another. Check out Kevin Kmetz. He is a Great example of the NEW Jongara Bushi, which breaks traditional boundaries.

  • thats interesting and impressive... Jimi hendrix style huh?

  • Japanese equivilent of a banjo

  • That has to be the most ignorant thing I've ever heard related to an instrument. Banjo's are for fucking rednecks.

  • lol I could say the exact same thing to you about what you just said about banjos

  • A nice case of ignorance fought with ignorance. As far as the production of sound is concerned (with the body serving as an amplifying drum) the shamisen actually resembles the banjo most of all western instruments. And one only has to listen to bela fleck to know that Banjo's are not for fucking rednecks.

  • Banjos came from West Africa

  • @MZRN1661 xD

  • @MZRN1661 And a case of ignorance from you there with the redneck comment, you were fine until that.

But I digress, I believe the banjo and others like it came from portugal by my guess. I could be wrong.

  • @CrazedWolfen Actualy the banjo came from Africa. It originated from a three string, fretless instument with a round drum body. (not unlike the shamisen) The banjo as we know it today was developed in the United States by the west african slaves.

  • Wrong, banjos came from West Africa.

  • 楽しそうに弾いてるね!

  • Like raindrops. Lovely.

  • AMAZING!

  • 間違えているからって、悪意がないんだからマイナス評価するなよ。

  • I think the name of this song is nikata Bushi

  • Takayuki Mazda! one of the Best!

  • subarashiidesune

  • It's like a meditation.

  • He is putting his real emotion into the instrument, its soo beautiful.

  • really amazing

How many years does it take to learn how to play?

  • Donde compro uno en mexico o como madres se hace????????

  • thats because banjos and shamisens have one thing in common: the body is made of a sort of hide.

  • think ive been slightly misunderstood..i was drunk that night...like nearly most of nights.. and my sharp-sighted senses, polished by beer, made banjo to my ears for millisecs...SORRY ! i didnt mean shamisen = banjo ! ...i love to hear traditionell japanese music.

  • woops... this was suppose to be a reply to yamahaji's comment

  • could you please send me some music of this ?

  • wow, I can see his dedication towards this art...

  • wow !!!! you play with your eyes close that amazing!!! Do we have this kind of show in the u.s? i want to go see.amazing!!!!

  • Yes, there is a small core of Shamisen masters in the u.s.. Among them are Mike Penny, Grant Reimer and Kevin Kmetz. These are the first foreigners in history to win the top awards at the national Japanese Shamisen touraments. Also the first Americans to record CDs of Tsugaru Shamisen music and do tours etc...

  • So masterful.

  • he looks relaxed

  • i wanna try )=3

  • fantastic!

  • que bello

  • I know there's a difference between the shamisen and the koto, but I can't tell exactly. Is the shamisen higher pitched? ._.

  • a koto is a zither. the shamisen guitarlike

  • Alright. Thank you!

  • you cant exactly tell?

have you not seen how they're played differently, or how they sound completly different and of course as ManaKage has stated the different musical family 0_0

  • No obviously not, thus explains my question. Anyway, thanks for answering my question smart ass <3 :D

  • =3 what can i say, i do try ^^

  • Awesome!

  • that's SO cool nice music.

which is the difference between sanshin and shamisen? =/

  • Sanshin is made of snake skin and is the native instrument of Okinawa, where cultures are much more different than that of Mainland Japan. The Sanshin is also much shorter and the body can be made of real snake skin or just regular cloth.

Shamisen, on the other hand, are more native in Mainland Japan, and consists of different styles of playing (which in this case is Tsugaru, a folkstyle tradition) which effects the length of the shamisen. It can be made from Dog, Cat or Plastic skin.

  • Reply to my Previous explanation (because this retarded "character count system" won't allow me to explain more):

The common styles of shamisen include Tsugaru, the style played by the performer in the vid, where the player plays a fast paced song, and nagauta, songs performed during traditional Japanese Geisha performances (I Think).

I own a Sanshin, but I have been yearning for a Tsugaru Shamisen for a while. Hope this clears up your confusion =)

  • :O!!! good to know thanks dude :P

  • Very good my friend! It seems authentic, japanese traditional and... it reminds something of blues at the same time! Suki deshita. Doomo arigatou

  • Jimmy Hendrix is BACK!!!! As a japanese dude this time!!!

  • Four months ago, a viewer suggested hearing a bagpipe with this. That would be great (or am I nuts?) Anyhow, this is way good ~~ the player is off in another dimension here. And his performance shows it.

  • I enjoyed it very much

  • amazing !!!

  • Reminds me of Slash (GnR): Hardly uses his pinky finger.

  • lovely! 5*

  • The shamisen music reminds me alot of banjo ragtime, even though they both differ in many ways.

  • I luv japanese instrumental music

  • totally agree

  • that guy is a beast... he's like falling asleep, all super calm, while mastering that thing

  • all i can say is...wow

  • This guy is God!

  • no he is not he's just some dude playin the shamisen

  • I meant this person is an outstanding musician. I did not mean to sound disrespectful

  • The lighting, the traditional Japanese attire, and the distinctive sound of the shamisen together create a very nice mood.

  • Go die.

  • WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!!!

  • And now we wonder why America has a reputation of being culturally ignorant...

  • Tsugaru is great!!!!

  • cuz he's feeling the note's whaha is funny but its professional ;) Very nice..

  • He's concentrating, getting into the song.

  • Grow up.

  • dont trip im asian 2

  • wtf does tht have 2 do with anything ?

  • makes me think of the old peyote dens and stuff!!! incredible!!!! i wanna hear a bagpiper with one!!!!!

  • awsome

  • This guy looks JUST like my friend Steve!!!o_O Kool song, tho... this guy really knows his stuff!!^^

  • very good

  • Unbelievable!

  • amasing music its so relaxed and melow most of the time but ther's so much power running through it and it just comes out in short bursts ya know

  • wow thats very good

  • amazing

  • So mellow, like the tickling of water, like the sound of rain falling on stone, pure grace.

  • the yoshida brothers are so awesome

  • Dude! It was like he has been playing that piece at birth....its amazing. Sorry...first time viewing some of the shamisen/biwa videos

  • Really IMPRESSIVE! One of the best Shamisen performance I have seen!

  • Please, what is the name of this performer? I would love to know. This one is even mellower, and his Hakama (skirt pants) are great too (I HAVE to buy a woman's hakama). (T__T) The bacground color is beuatiful too, blue and serene.

  • i think i'm turning Japanese..i think i'm turning Japanese..i really think so..

  • Welcome to the club lol

  • Japan is my favourite country, and the shamisen is one of my favourite japanese instruments, others include the biwa, and koto. Keep up the good work! Its amazing how only 3 strings can express so much about a human life.

  • Sodesune! The performance is fluid! it sound harmonious and rapid.

  • tiny f'n fingers

  • I have heard this peice by another player. Therefor I assume it is an official peice and not just a personal medley. Am I right?

  • Wow! He's amazing^_^ 5/5

  • Hendrix lives!!

  • quite beautiful...and the reverb sound is fantastic!

  • Inspired playing, I love shamisen!

  • but it is THEIR music lol ^^

  • it's Akita Nikata Bushi, taditional japanese musik from Akita

  • Why do you have Yoshida Brothers as a search tag on here?? This isn't the Yoshida Brothers. This isn't even ONE of the Yoshida Brothers.
