There are great Tibetan meditation masters that are able to maintain very subtle consciousness in the body during the death process...all processes (heart beat, breathing, all activity ceases yet the body does not smell, lose color, or lose it's posture until the consciousness finally leaves. In southern India, it's really hot. In a very short time after death, the ordinary body starts to give off a very foul odor. These masters actually give off a pleasant smell.

actually this guy is not stopping anything, if he did he would be dead, the truth is the EEG machine he is using is only 2 channels showing the frontal lobes and is not a BCI eeg machine 16 or 32 channels which shows brain activity in 3D in all areas of the brain, there is also deep brain activity that can be seen via MRI

Wilbur is just showing off. Tracing brain waves is meaningless. The goal of meditation is not to control brain waves, it is to have transcendent experiences. Once again, as in his writings, Wilbur becomes obsessed with insignificant details and misses the bigger picture, but it doesn't matter since his primary goal is to get attention and sell stuff, not awaken anybody.
trancendent experences have a correlative brainwave pattern. ken wilber's integral framework is actually the definition of 'bigger picture', and i see him going to great lengths to awaken people. the fact that he also sells stuff doesn't make him a charlatan, as commerce is a major part of society, and running from that isn't 'spiritual', its denial.
@alwaysdeeper is just showing off. Writing this comment is meaningless. The goal of meditation is to explore one's mind and wilber is offering an account of how brain waves relate to such transcendent experiences while offering scientific evidence of such things. Once again, as in alwaysdeeper's comments, alwaysdeeper becomes obsessed with insignificant details and misses the bigger picture, but it doesn't matter since alwaysdeeper's primary goal is to get attention, not awaken anybody.
I don't think this is a fake. Wilber isn't necessarily as achieved as he thinks, but IMO he wouldn't stoop to fraud -- especially since he will probably be asked to repeat this with witnesses in a more controlled situation.
What I do think is interesting is the number of comments about 'vulcan' applied to Wilber on this page. At the top of this he talks about his left brain being more active because he has just assembled the machine -- but I think perhaps it is *always* his more active side.
I can wake in theta-delta. Is there a affordeable eeg machine or software system you recommend?? That covers High gamma/epsilon ranges & records??? I want to learn more about my precognition. Near-death experiences, one can be medically dead for a couple of mins. and still be revived. For the most part this video merely pointing out that we can control our brain wave activity (make the brain generate alpha waves with meditation (while conscious) or during the REM sleep cycle (while unconscious) ). There is empirical evidence of this via brain wave monitoring.
Same deal applies to theta, meta, and beta brain waves. We can control all these states. Course it is easiest to control the beta state of mind because we mostly generate beta waves during the process of conducting conscious daily activities (not sleeping or meditating).
Important to state is this: besides these waves, which are measurable, there are suble waves of prana circulating, not only in head, but in whole body. And still subltler waves of astral energy, which we receive of planets. What is happenning on lower levels, depends exclusively of what it's happening on higher, subtler levels, that goes for emotions too, they origin there, brain waves then show simply the activity of our brain cells.
He was messing with the electrodes over his occipital lobe. Alpha activity naturally increases and becomes the dominant frequency in the occipital lobe when you close your eyes.
My opinion; he was dislodging the electrodes so alpha would disappear from the screen.
i dont think STOPPING the brain waves was actually the point in the demonstration. So stop making that the argument. The point in the demonstration was showing how one can control the brainstates and recognize those brainstates.
also it looks like he actually recalibrates the machine's zero level. When his hand hits the button the output reads very close to zero across the board. Looks like the key element for BS.

Point out the part where he claims to be special? If you can't, I will assume youre projecting onto him your own feelings of superiority. If this is untrue, then perhaps you should carry out further research into this mans philosophical, intellectual, psychological, transcendental, integral, etc, contributions to the fields just listed prior to making such conclusions. Also, as he has been meditating for most of his life, many would bestow him the title of meditation guru.
If he is not showing some kind of special ability, why would he post this video? Why would he title it "Ken Wilbur stops his brain waves" instead of something more tutorial, like "controlling your brain waves" or even just "EEG demonstration"? The title itself is misleading - He is not "stopping his brainwaves"!
I think if you learn more about EEGs instead of just giving me some reactionary response you'll change your opinion.
Can you be certain Wilber was the one to post it, or additionally, name it? And perhaps he was demonstrating something of interest, not a special technique unattainable by others. Not only am I somewhat familiar with EEG machines, with my extensive background in sciences and psychology, but meditate as well, and for those reasons find it impressive and useful as a preliminary view into the field of transcendental psychology.

The device he's using is an EEG and the graphs are probably legit but he is not "stopping his brainwaves". This is actually a very easy task with two electrodes which is the setup that Wilbur is using. The fact that he is decreasing the amplitude so much also does not indicate that he is "turning off his brain".
like i said. probably not even aware of how dense you are. being able to build one of these doesn' mean you're any good at deepening your brain to that kind of level. its more of an intellectual task. if you think KW is a 'new age hippy', you obviously haven't checked out his own opinion of the new age, which is rather critical.
i can see two points in addition to the 'dense' part. do you want me to draw you a diagram or something? (hint: one point concerns whether you are capable of what Ken is doing, despite being able to build an EEG. two is a challenge of your 'new age hippy accusation, which, if you care to check out, is backed by evidence). if you detect some condescent, it's entirely intentional. i don't take well to people tearing the shit out of a good man with their personal projections of their own baggage.

Let me preface this by saying that a good part of my income revovles around performing and interpreting EEG data.
The high numbers in the delta band were most likely a result of muscle artifacts, involuntary eye movements to be precise. The fact that a lot of other muscle and movement artifacts were absent from the screen indicates there was something off in the way the hardware was set up. Either accidentally or purposefully.

sorry but a real EEG flat-line means brain death. if your entire brain shuts down, so does the rest of the body. you can't live without an active brain stem, your heart and lungs would stop working immediately. And there is no known case of someone ever being revived when his brain activity ceased working.

The skill of combining extended concentration with ever deeper relaxation allows awareness to penetrate into a place of insight and direct experience of the stillness of being which is an essential component to transformation. I'm so glad technology is finally being used in the service of something so important, the betterment of all sentient beings on this Earth. :-)

actually this guy is not stopping anything, if he did he would be dead, the truth is the EEG machine he is using is only 2 channels showing the frontal lobes and is not a BCI eeg machine 16 or 32 channels which shows brain activity in 3D in all areas of the brain, there is also deep brain activity that can be seen via MRI

read my post below also BTW one of the drawbacks of EEG is the spectrum limits and filtering such as it cannot measure below 2hz or higher then 40hz due to 50hz and 60hz interference, so hos brainwaves may be so high or so low," lower then 2hz" that the machine isn't picking it up

Wilbur is just showing off. Tracing brain waves is meaningless. The goal of meditation is not to control brain waves, it is to have transcendent experiences. Once again, as in his writings, Wilbur becomes obsessed with insignificant details and misses the bigger picture, but it doesn't matter since his primary goal is to get attention and sell stuff, not awaken anybody.

trancendent experences have a correlative brainwave pattern. ken wilber's integral framework is actually the definition of 'bigger picture', and i see him going to great lengths to awaken people. the fact that he also sells stuff doesn't make him a charlatan, as commerce is a major part of society, and running from that isn't 'spiritual', its denial.

I don't think this is a fake. Wilber isn't necessarily as achieved as he thinks, but IMO he wouldn't stoop to fraud -- especially since he will probably be asked to repeat this with witnesses in a more controlled situation.
What I do think is interesting is the number of comments about 'vulcan' applied to Wilber on this page. At the top of this he talks about his left brain being more active because he has just assembled the machine -- but I think perhaps it is *always* his more active side.

I can wake in theta-delta. Is there a affordeable eeg machine or software system you recommend?? That covers High gamma/epsilon ranges & records??? I want to learn more about my precognition. I figure if i have an eeg that i will be able to figure it out & create binaurals for induction. I think anything under $500 would be nice. Could use some advise. precog has been sitting on a dark dusty shelf for too long. Could also observe spikes during chakra vibration when my brain cooks.

Near-death experiences, one can be medically dead for a couple of mins. and still be revived. For the most part this video merely pointing out that we can control our brain wave activity (make the brain generate alpha waves with meditation (while conscious) or during the REM sleep cycle (while unconscious) ). There is empirical evidence of this via brain wave monitoring.

Same deal applies to theta, meta, and beta brain waves. We can control all these states. Course it is easiest to control the beta state of mind because we mostly generate beta waves during the process of conducting conscious daily activities (not sleeping or meditating).

Important to state is this: besides these waves, which are measurable, there are suble waves of prana circulating, not only in head, but in whole body. And still subltler waves of astral energy, which we receive of planets. What is happenning on lower levels, depends exclusively of what it's happening on higher, subtler levels, that goes for emotions too, they origin there, brain waves then show simply the activity of our brain cells.

He was messing with the electrodes over his occipital lobe. Alpha activity naturally increases and becomes the dominant frequency in the occipital lobe when you close your eyes.
My opinion; he was dislodging the electrodes so alpha would disappear from the screen.

Point out the part where he claims to be special? If you can't, I will assume youre projecting onto him your own feelings of superiority. If this is untrue, then perhaps you should carry out further research into this mans philosophical, intellectual, psychological, transcendental, integral, etc, contributions to the fields just listed prior to making such conclusions. Also, as he has been meditating for most of his life, many would bestow him the title of meditation guru.

If he is not showing some kind of special ability, why would he post this video? Why would he title it "Ken Wilbur stops his brain waves" instead of something more tutorial, like "controlling your brain waves" or even just "EEG demonstration"? The title itself is misleading - He is not "stopping his brainwaves"!

Can you be certain Wilber was the one to post it, or additionally, name it? And perhaps he was demonstrating something of interest, not a special technique unattainable by others. Not only am I somewhat familiar with EEG machines, with my extensive background in sciences and psychology, but meditate as well, and for those reasons find it impressive and useful as a preliminary view into the field of transcendental psychology.

The device he's using is an EEG and the graphs are probably legit but he is not "stopping his brainwaves". This is actually a very easy task with two electrodes which is the setup that Wilbur is using. The fact that he is decreasing the amplitude so much also does not indicate that he is "turning off his brain".

even if he's not 'stopping' his brainwaves outright (and I'm not saying he isn't), he is at least changing them in a significant way. Most people can't do this, and I doubt you can. Therefor, to call it 'meaningless' is totally over the top, just like calling him a 'new age hippy' is. You might be able to build one of these, but you're judgement isn't as sharp as it could be.

Let me preface this by saying that a good part of my income revovles around performing and interpreting EEG data.
The high numbers in the delta band were most likely a result of muscle artifacts, involuntary eye movements to be precise. The fact that a lot of other muscle and movement artifacts were absent from the screen indicates there was something off in the way the hardware was set up. Either accidentally or purposefully.
