What a terrible ending. I just beat it the other day and they didn't close off anything. Why did the Shivans blow up the sun?

What was the whole point or Bosch going to the Shivans as you never hear from him again.

Did the Terrans ever make the portal back to Sol?

@azile0 Mass Effect and Freespace share a lot of similarities, though. I'd be shocked if none of the BioWare writers had played FS2. Mass effect is by itself an excellent game with an excellent story, but I still love FS2, and I wouldn't be shocked if a lot of the FS2 story had been inspiration for a lot of the ME story. (Note that in Bosch's first monologue, he theorizes that the Shivans may be creating a cycle of annihilation and rebuilding, something very prominent in ME's story).

Looks like quite a lot of people look a similarity with Mass effect and Freespace. I think the main reason is the "classic space story devloppment". In those stories there always have to be an ennemy a lot stronger than humans, a lot bigger too, and too add a little more, we never have to know too much about them, nor we can apprehend them.

Although thinking that, i also think that Mass effect have been influenced by freespace, because it has one of the best story for a space-future game.

freespace 1 and 2 are, to this day, my favorite pc games of all time. i noticed some similarities in mass effect's story to. i like to think that freespace helped inspire mass effects but even if it is just coinsidence they're both great games (can't wait for mass effect 2)

Not sure on Starlancer's release, but Freelancer is about 4 years after Freespace.

But Mass Effect and Freespace are coincidences, in my opinion.

Well, there is a reason why the series hasn't been continued, volution drew up a whole storyline based in the capella system, with a similar storyline containing pirates and more shivans, it appeared as if the shivans destroyed their fleet in the end of the second. nevertheless Freespace 2 didn't sell that good because freespace one had failed and no founding - no follow, simple as that. let's hope someone does a continuance when the patency for the game expires 2012.

I really regret that nobody has been able to pick up this awesome series and make a third one. It was probably the best find ive ever picked out of a bargin bin and not much in 15 years of gaming is able to achive such high marks as this one did!

You want Blue Planet - it's probably the most professionally done fan campaigns to deal with the post-FS2 era.

Currently released is the first section - Blue Planet: Age of Aquarius, with the 2nd, War in Heaven, coming out very soon

@xxGorgexx It didn't get that popular to be able to make a Freespace 3, even though it had lots loyal peps to the game.

But Freespace 2 Open Source Code Project, is a fansite, they have made mod that has huge graphics improvments, and lots of new custom campaigns about the Anciants, and after Freespace 2. Some pretty damn well done. Check it out.

@xxGorgexx Yeah, I agree. Why was the Trinity in the nebula beyond Gamma Draconis? Is there a Shivan home area? Can Knossos technology be reverse enginneered for GTVA use? All these questions, yet unanswered in any way.

@TheLegolasguy Bosh sent Trinity into Gamma Draconis to activate the portal and lure Shivans back to T-V space. He learned about the portal and it's location through studying Ancient artifacts in the Deneb system.

It's just called Freespace 2, and it's been free to download for a long, long time. When Volition released the source code for it, the game became free. Go to google and look up 'freepsace 2 source code project' and that should take you to it.

I managed to save all the transports except 1. I've got all the medels in the game but I'm still Lt. Jr. Grade. I like the ending A better than B but it's still a fantastic classic game and I'm still the best fighter pilot.

It sucks that the only way alpha 1 can live is by abandoning half the 3rd convoy. I camped the node and listened as my idiot wingmen got slaughtered, then as the shivans cut through troops transports. Command prlly executed me for that, but I didnt wanna get cooked.
