I'm a Goan and like many True Goans we have Portuguese blood and relatives in Portugal. Goa has existed before India and the only civilization there was in Goa prior to 1510 were pirates and Arab smugglers. Not only that but we are heavily influenced by Portuguese culture. After the invasion of 61, Indians from north and south all crawl into Goa because of how clean our state is. Now the economy of Goa is already a mess, which forces us Goans to leave the corrupt state.

I actualy believe that Goa should be independent from India. Goa created a very diferent culture from India. And as i sayd before, Goa has at least 500 years as a state, and as a culture, Portugal give Goa its own political system, so they could rule on theyr own. The British get there in the 1700, thats 200 years yearlier, dont confuse us with the British. we might be Europeans but we are 2 completly diferent cultures.
And when Portugese setle in India we encourage a policy of tolerance (not forced) because we Portuguese are no racists like the British.

Regardless of when you came , it was still a forced take over. Maybe you guys were indeed better than the british , but the truth remains that this land did not belong to you. Can you name any country that has territories seperated by thousands of miles? Goa was geograhically a part of india and it would have come under us either way.

History is writen by the ones who win. So your history books teatch you what your goverment wants you to know, and not necessarely the truth. And just because a city is in the same peace of land of the neighbour city, that doesent mean they should be togheter. Looking on that point of view Europe would be just one contry from Portugal to Russia. Culture is what defines a country.

And well , india has many cultures , each state has a distinct culture. There's no culture such as 'indian' culture. We have over 100 different languages ,ethnicities. So it was ok fr goa to come under our rule.

@freakunleashed92 Our history books only say that we lost Goa, Damao and Dio to India in 1961 and thats it. the rest i heard it from my grandfathers brothers mouth, who is still alive and lived in 1st hand all those developments, and was made a P.O.W. and suffered great humiliations from Indian Soldiers (things similar to what the USA did in Iraq), and that are against the Geneva convetion.
And by the way, did you ask Goans if they wanted to be under the rule of India?

So what ? POWs always suffer some degree of humiliation.You cannot expect us to treat them nicely after all the shit that hapenned. There are many conventions , doesn't mean that they have to be followed word by word. If UN conventions were to be followed , the world would be an awesome place to live in.
