Everyone, please! The main reason that The Ring is scarier than Ringu is because The Ring had more special affects. Ringu was made back when there wasn't as good as affects as when The Ring was made. Ringu 2 has even cooler affects than Ringu. I've watched them all.
Interesting thing that most people don't get is this. The scene where the mirrors switch, showing Sadako mother and Sadako herself, is a real event. Not symbolic, but Sadako used her powers to try and cheer up her mother. Her mother was depressed and spent all her time in front of a mirror, brushing her hair. So Sadako switched the mirrors just like what happened in the video at 0:05-0:15.
Japan's cursed video(JCV) is more, shall we say, symbolic than the American version. America's cursed video(ACV) has more scenes that doesn't have any relevence to the overall plot. Everything in the JCV has something to do with the unraveling of the story. I still think The Ring is more frightening than Ringu. But the trilogy of novels that is the basis of the Ring Movies makes a lot more sense than the movies.
