im curious... if i have a 100 watt solid state amp, and i want more gain out of it, would something like the Zakk wylde overdrive get the job done well ?
i have a blues driver but for rhythm its not cutting it.
If you'll use the Wylde OD as a booster, for sure it does the job... as the main drive, maybe you'll need something more heavy (depending what kind of music you play)... cheers!!!
@Zeppelindude628 well if you are looking for a boost you can dial the gain of the zw pedal down and the volume up and it will give you a nice boost but zakk wylde is known for his bassy chuggy tones you know? so if you are looking for a boost or a nice drive with clarity in its lead then go for it. GREAT pedal
this pedal suprises most people .. people think its gonna be real heavy tone. but in fact its a nice overdrive tone. not quite wot some ppl think its gonna be like i got it knowig it was like this :D its really meant to be put on top of the gain from ur amp for tht extra bite .. but i like it on its own :D great pedal i love it ... now i want dimes distortion pedal :) from mxr
yeah the amp isnt the problem, the problem is that pedal its for boosting your distortion i had hte pedal and used it with a valve king 212 and it still wasnt great but it is supposed to be used with and existing distortion or overdrive
Dude, overdrive and distortion are two different types of saturation... overdrive is more like a tube amp.... distortion has more compression... well, make a search on Google, cause there you´ll find more informations about it...
no, a tube amp is more like a tube amp. overdrive "overdrives" the signal of your guitar and distortion distorts it. one just pushes the real tone of the guitar and distortion actually changes it.
this is why overdrive pedals always sound better on tube amps because you're using the amp's and the guitar's real tone. for a solid state you'd be better off with something like a metal zone that is a distortion pedal.
that pedal is GREAT on tube amps and meh on solid states. get a boss metal zone.
Man, I really don´t know if the Wylde OD will work good with your amp... sounds good in every amp. that I had put in front, even this bad amp. that you can see in the video... that´s what I can say about it... ;]
i got a marshall micro stack with a boss metal core fender chours and a zakk wylde wah the wah is worth the money do you get a good sound with pinch harmonics when everything is all the way up
I think that DS-1 isn´t the best choice for Randy Roads and Zakk Wylde... for Randy, the Distortion II or the Wylde OD are good choices... for Zakk, you´ll need something more heavy, like Marshall Jackhammer... Sansamp GT2 is good too... for Led, Wylde OD is good, as GT2, Jackhammer... as Marshall Guv´nor... there are good choices for Led tones... cheers!
Hard question, cause all tree sound different... MT-2 is more Metallica before the Black Album... after Black Album, you´ll need something that sounds more Mesa Boogie... for Zakk Wylde, you´ll need something more Marshall, but more heavy than Wylde OD and different of MT-2... for Randy Roads, ZW OD is a good option...
mmm ive got a gibson explorer and a fender frontman 65r (65 watt)...
i'm between the MXR ZW,the boss metal zone and the boss mega distorsion...wich of these threee do you think is better to do hard rock/metal??? consider the equipment thanks
First of all, the MXR ZW-44 is an overdrive, so, not the best option to hard rock or metal... I like the Metal Zone most than the Mega Distortion, but the MT-2 is cool to metal, not so much to hard rock... a good option is make some MOD in MT-2... I made the Sustania Tri-Gain Plus, from Monte Allums... great MOD... if you can, make a test with Marshall Jackhammer... to me, great choice to what you want... cheers!
i owned it for one day...then i returned it coz at the end of the day it was pretty useless for me ...i play fernandes revolver with randall 40w solid state an my amp has already pretty good amount of gain, sustain and clearance so i cant use it as a boost it had almost no effect :/
pros: good for smooth overdrive as shown here
cool for blues and such
cons:useless for high gain amps (for boost i mean) and too noisy ... i mean lots o noise and a bit too muddy for my taste
Tips? Well, that´s a little hard, cause it depends of your equipament... however, begins with all controls in middle position e put ou cut what you think it´s necessary... that´s the best tip that I can give you... cheers!
im haveing problems with my zw44 when i kick it in it dives my amp volume down but i think its just the battery so im gonna change it and see what appends
that's a pretty fucking good sound coming out of such a small amp, has a good alternative rock sound, not so much metal, but I guess with a bigger amp it would sound a little more heavy.

Dude, I believe that you have the ZW-44, right? Any moment you think that the "shitty tone" could be came from the pedal... hehehe... well, I think I have a very good and decent guitar... I have a Jackson ATX with EMG81, EMG-SA e EMG-85... anyway, the piece of shit is the amp., a small solid state Staner, from Brazil... that´s the real bad trick... hehehe... tears, man...
Actually i do have the zw-44 and it is a good pedal... I have a Les paul with an EMG 81-85 configuration, and the randall amp i mentioned before which I only paid about $400 for and Im telling you dude....I can get some killer tones with my amp which has some built in effects.
Man, I believe you... the Randall made some great stuff, no doubt... the amp. of the video is the one that I use in my home... in studio I use a better amp, a Vulcano G200, made by Meteoro, from Brazil... alive, I´ve been using a Laney VH100r... man, this Laney is the real deal... great sound... tears, brow!
The ZW44 are supposed to be used with a good amp. If you've got a shitty amp, there's no reason to have this pedal. It's supposed to boost up the distortion channel on ur amp so it becomes a better "shredding" tone.

I use the Metal Zone pedal for some great guitar solos I run it through a Roland Jazz Chours-120 watt(they were made for each other) turn on the chours on the roland you get a beautiful beautiful solo. This pedal great but not for rythem I still use though for solos
I do agree that if you are plating SS amps, which I prefer if I want a completely clean, crystalline sound (the Jazz Chorus would be the best of SS amps, Fender used to make some really great ones)&built in Chorus and reverb, for a crisp clean, always are better built in the amp, that a MZ pedal will always be the metal pedal of choice. It won't sound like a tube amp, but the smooth, consistency of that combination, were really made for each other. I don't do metal, orplay a SS amp,but ifI did,MTZ!
these pedals are seriously way too overrated. theyr more of an overdrive boost than anything because you need the distortion on your amp up and you need a marshall. just get a boss MT2 metal zone, much better tones and much more versatile~and half the price~
boss metal zone gets some awesome tones, its like my favourite distortion depending on what amp you run it through. and all the wylde overdrive is supposed to do is provide a nice (interesting) boost to amp gain.tailored straight to wylde himself so, of course, sounds great on marshalls
Metal Zone is good for people who don't care about tone and just want something that sounds like someone got thrown into a giant blender while they were running a chainsaw and now they are screaming bloody murder.
Can you just go jump off a cliff? YOur arguing with someone, yet you don't even have a simple grasp of ENGLISH and GRAMMAR. Learn to fucking spell and use punctuation. I mean, for fucks sake, ~ is not a fucking fullstop
"You don't even have a simple grasp of ENGLISH and GRAMMAR."
Kevlov, how can you call someone out, and, in so doing, prove yourself to be guilty of the same inadequacies?
Are you familiar with any real adverbs or adjectives, or did your teachers lie and tell you that the word, 'fucking,' was a suitable substitute for the annoyance of actually familiarizing yourself with a few hundred, more appropriate, descriptors? You won't get far in the real world, if that's the extent of your arsenal.
the MT-2 is not the greatest.I tried it for a week and found only two usable metal sounds. for some that is enough, but for me it never is.. Now I use jh-1 in front of a good amps overdrive. + a parametric eq to get "my" sound.(it is not like a crazy psyco with a chainsaw.. It is like a postman covered in blood with a shotgun and sharp teeth) the ZW44 is designed to drive a very good amp with drive to an ever higher level of distortion (just like zakk does)
Dude, their is different kinds of sound to gain and distortion, so their's 1000000000 different pedals, this is just one of those. So it's all about taste. Don't like it, don't buy it.
yeah this pedal doesn't come with a powersupply but if you have multiple pedals which I suggest a boss ns-2 noise suppressor for the added noise that you get from this pedal you can get a 1spot multi-ac/dc for them great buy
and this pedal is more for picking up harmonics than distortion but still great
Hi yeah I've seen your videos twat and if I were you....I wouldnt give out much guitar advice, maybe you hadnt noticed but Zack released a signature mg amp based on one of his maybe his signature amp and pedal were actualy designed to go together? call it a crazy theory if you want but I reckon you should just except the ownage . Did it never occur to you that maybe some guitarists (most of which are better than you)use other Fucking amps
what the hell are you talking about? first of all, its ZAKK. second, i can own you at guitar, as ive seen ur videos also. third his mg micro stack amps were based to look like his jcm800's with the salt and pepper grille cloth. and i dont give a shit what amps you or others use, all i said was that zakk uses a boosted jcm800 for live and in studio. not mg...
Oh really my point was completely worthless becuase i speltZakks name wrong listen why dont you get some guitar lessons i verry much doubt that you could own anyone at the moment,I think youve missed the point and it was an overblown rection, thats the only reason i reacted so there you go can we leave it at just that, yes Zakk mainly uses 800s but thats a naive point of veiw I'd like to just say people have different styles and use different amps, GET OVER IT!
all i said was this pedal was designed to sound like a fucking boosted JCM800, not an mg solid state piece of shit....ive been playin for 8 years and i dont need some fat ass retard tellin me i need lessons. lets see you play Laid to Rest...
Dude just calm down i have some completely different oppinions to you, one being i dont like lamb of god another being i think that its the guitarist not the amp i'd really like to leave it here ok
zakk wylde sells epiphone with passive EMG and MG marshall when he ACTUaLLy uses Gibson with active EMGs and REAL Marshalls JCM800 with different tubes ;)
Its all about money, when hes playing live he uses this signature pedal + jcm 800 dist.
No Gibson sells Epiphones and Marshall sells MGs with Zakk's name on them. Just part of marketing business. Plus there are a lot of people that can't afford a Gibson but want the Zakk bullseye guitar, this is where the Epi comes into play. You are right about him using the OD on the amp + the pedal however if someone only buys this pedal hoping to sound like him they have serious issues. It's a decent pedal alone.
nick catanese have also his signature model whith the emgs for 850 bucks it is really better than the epiphone and the custom model of nick catanese the nc 70 is better et less expenssive then the wylde's version made by gibson
Este pedal é muito legal, eu fiz um clone dele para empurrar o meu Meteoro Cristalino, dê uma olhada no teste que eu fiz: Preludio in Cm Zakk Wylde Over Drive.
Good test. This is really made for a Marshall Tube though. Its meant as a boost for your solos and gain, which is what it does, but you got a nice warm tone from this solid state amp. I really dig it man, keep up the good work.

buy both of them and try, BOSS SD-1 is a machinegunn, it has a very heavy attack and crunch at 3/4's gain, at full gain it blow you mind.

I use the Metal Zone pedal for some great guitar solos I run it through a Roland Jazz Chours-120 watt(they were made for each other) turn on the chours on the roland you get a beautiful beautiful solo. This pedal great but not for rythem I still use though for solos
jew789000 4 years ago
I do agree that if you are plating SS amps, which I prefer if I want a completely clean, crystalline sound (the Jazz Chorus would be the best of SS amps, Fender used to make some really great ones)&built in Chorus and reverb, for a crisp clean, always are better built in the amp, that a MZ pedal will always be the metal pedal of choice. It won't sound like a tube amp, but the smooth, consistency of that combination, were really made for each other. I don't do metal, orplay a SS amp,but ifI did,MTZ!

my fav distortion is the metal master by digitech. u may think it sux but compared to many distrotions, its amazing
kelphelp 4 years ago
these pedals are seriously way too overrated. theyr more of an overdrive boost than anything because you need the distortion on your amp up and you need a marshall. just get a boss MT2 metal zone, much better tones and much more versatile~and half the price~
ckyvick666 4 years ago
the boss mt-2 sucks you know, waaaay to thin
RoelofWithoutFear 4 years ago
this thing sounds thin as hell and this sucks, the mt 2 has much better tones when used properly, you just couldnt figure it out~
ckyvick666 4 years ago
boss metal zone gets some awesome tones, its like my favourite distortion depending on what amp you run it through. and all the wylde overdrive is supposed to do is provide a nice (interesting) boost to amp gain.tailored straight to wylde himself so, of course, sounds great on marshalls
adam03221990 4 years ago
Metal Zone is good for people who don't care about tone and just want something that sounds like someone got thrown into a giant blender while they were running a chainsaw and now they are screaming bloody murder.
doufeel 4 years ago
yeah and im shure its fine to like this because you have to make sounds that have allready been made like a pussy copyer~

It is like a postman covered in blood with a shotgun and sharp teeth) the ZW44 is designed to drive a very good amp with drive to an ever higher level of distortion (just like zakk does)
magnus0re 4 years ago
yeah and here it sounds like crap, all have to admit that
ckyvick666 4 years ago
its ovbiously being used impropery cause zakk uses it and it sounds great, its and overdrive not a distortion pedal
kwuzzyforman 4 years ago
Dude, their is different kinds of sound to gain and distortion, so their's 1000000000 different pedals, this is just one of those. So it's all about taste. Don't like it, don't buy it.

its funny how you push the button with your finger. i stomp mine with my foot. nice playing btw.
justlittlemewills 4 years ago
yeah well if he stepped on it with his foot
he probably would've also stepped on teh camera
seeing as its so close to the pedal
Hazmat27 4 years ago
yeah this pedal doesn't come with a powersupply but if you have multiple pedals which I suggest a boss ns-2 noise suppressor for the added noise that you get from this pedal you can get a 1spot multi-ac/dc for them great buy
and this pedal is more for picking up harmonics than distortion but still great
BrewSquad 4 years ago
nice job showing people the different sounds of it and nice playing btw =) *cheers*

Man, my ZW-44 doesn´t came with any power supply... ;]

Pretty sure it's NOT for solid states, as it is called an OVERDRIVE pedal
Bigfatphony19 4 years ago
This pedal is completely designed for solid state amps as zw uses marshall mg amps by the way but im sure it would work with tubes
adamgoogrue 4 years ago
are u a fucking idiot, he uses jcm 800's
twscyclone200 4 years ago
Hi yeah I've seen your videos twat and if I were you....I wouldnt give out much guitar advice, maybe you hadnt noticed but Zack released a signature mg amp based on one of his maybe his signature amp and pedal were actualy designed to go together? call it a crazy theory if you want but I reckon you should just except the ownage . Did it never occur to you that maybe some guitarists (most of which are better than you)use other Fucking amps
adamgoogrue 4 years ago
what the hell are you talking about? first of all, its ZAKK. second, i can own you at guitar, as ive seen ur videos also. third his mg micro stack amps were based to look like his jcm800's with the salt and pepper grille cloth. and i dont give a shit what amps you or others use, all i said was that zakk uses a boosted jcm800 for live and in studio. not mg...
twscyclone200 4 years ago
Oh really my point was completely worthless becuase i speltZakks name wrong listen why dont you get some guitar lessons i verry much doubt that you could own anyone at the moment,I think youve missed the point and it was an overblown rection, thats the only reason i reacted so there you go can we leave it at just that, yes Zakk mainly uses 800s but thats a naive point of veiw I'd like to just say people have different styles and use different amps, GET OVER IT!
adamgoogrue 4 years ago
all i said was this pedal was designed to sound like a fucking boosted JCM800, not an mg solid state piece of shit....ive been playin for 8 years and i dont need some fat ass retard tellin me i need lessons. lets see you play Laid to Rest...
twscyclone200 4 years ago
Dude just calm down i have some completely different oppinions to you, one being i dont like lamb of god another being i think that its the guitarist not the amp i'd really like to leave it here ok
adamgoogrue 4 years ago
Wait a minute
u think thats difficult?
i don't get lessons
i didn't need a metranome or anything
i read the tab and played it.
not all that hard
RG17o 4 years ago
Tape your playing and you will hear that that isnt that easy at all
liwewired 4 years ago
the pedal was designed so that ppl can get zakk wylde tone for cheap.
twscyclone200 4 years ago
How Cheap?
(in Australian?)
RG17o 4 years ago
zakk wylde sells epiphone with passive EMG and MG marshall when he ACTUaLLy uses Gibson with active EMGs and REAL Marshalls JCM800 with different tubes ;)
Its all about money, when hes playing live he uses this signature pedal + jcm 800 dist.
Not alone. =)
shouldnotseeme 4 years ago
No Gibson sells Epiphones and Marshall sells MGs with Zakk's name on them. Just part of marketing business. Plus there are a lot of people that can't afford a Gibson but want the Zakk bullseye guitar, this is where the Epi comes into play. You are right about him using the OD on the amp + the pedal however if someone only buys this pedal hoping to sound like him they have serious issues. It's a decent pedal alone.
zero2kx 4 years ago 2
hey shouldnotseeme, he does sell a gibson signature with the emg 81/85, but the epiphone is for those who dont have 4grand to spend on a guitar
trout5076 4 years ago
Nah.. the Gibson costs 9grand actually!! haha!
ExpGuitarist 4 years ago
Only the tribute one with the fake aging done to it.
Wang0Phat 4 years ago
nick catanese have also his signature model whith the emgs for 850 bucks it is really better than the epiphone and the custom model of nick catanese the nc 70 is better et less expenssive then the wylde's version made by gibson

sbgetiren 4 years ago
Good test. This is really made for a Marshall Tube though. Its meant as a boost for your solos and gain, which is what it does, but you got a nice warm tone from this solid state amp. I really dig it man, keep up the good work.
