  • Not bad for the most archaic chess federation in the entire western world, in fact it is a massive improvement over the old system, and they even updated the long play grades. Is that going to be a regular thing now or just a one off to celebrate the launch of the new system. Either way it is still good, shouldn't be long before they bring in quarterly grades, I hope.

  • It is an improvment, but to be honest I htink you have to question why it has taken the ECF so long to provide this infromation. The Welsh Chess Union has been providing it for at least a couple of year. Further, one can follows the ups and downs of one's grade after each game, and the offical grades are released quarterly - which is much better IMHO.

  • @GarySlegg The ECF did, but it was members only, and provided via a printout. Given "everyone" will have to be a Member next year anyway with the new funding arrangements, this benefit has been given to everyone. An ECF-grade being updated game-by-game is meaningless because of the algorithm used. The grades of ungraded players and juniors are calculated from scratch every time, so your live grade would be changing as often as they play. So the number the computer spews out would be meaningless.
