@MrCodeAeon I think that I could have an extra, or you can go to Stars website, seems like a lot of effort though, when there a lot of great spoke reflector ideas out there. Just look on YouTube for some different ideas....or Google
@xoxoxoxoLIVE I usually try to stick to parts it came with. Could you maybe link me to a site that has it? Also, I find it to be a great little travel bike. Before I started my EMT training I was riding mine 50 miles per day.
@samstterhamstteer There is some cool follow up videos on it with the Topeak rack installed, plus all kinds of mods, and one after 2500 miles... check them out !
i just recently bought this bike. i love it and it rides very well, but i've noticed something strange. on my bike, the left gear shift, when you press the larger, lower lever, it it makes the gear higher, and the smaller, upper one makes the gear go down. this is the opposite on the right side. I didnt notice that, and i thought it was the same way for both sides. is this normal, or should i get it checked out? thanks for the help :)
@bluedog454 The smaller gear on the rear makes it harder to peddle, and the opposite on the front. It sounds like it is working fine, I do not even think it could work the wrong way.
@s241914 i know youu probably dont care anymore because you comment is pretty old but it is a hybrid because it i s a cross between a road bike and a mountain bike
Decent bike, I'd rather buy something used with better components for the same price but at least this bargain bike has lots of room for future improvements. Brakes and shifters are good if properly adjusted. The bottom bracket on mine needed to be rebuilt after about a year. The wheels suck, but you have to cut cost somewhere to sell a $200 bike.
I'm 5'7 and probably 280-290. I'm looking at the Avenue online and many state that it its pretty much the same as this Trailway, just lacking a few things. Anyway, I want it for pretty much riding in a suburban area on pavement. Trying to slim my fat fucking ass down some and wanted to know if this would be a good bike to look into getting if I'm not trying to ride off of mountains and shit. I just want something that won't explode when I sit on it and give me a decent speed.
people around 5' 10" and up...There is a web page( Bike Forums ) go to the Clyde and Anthea section and post that same question, they will be more than helpful.. nice people...Richard.
@xoxoxoxoLIVE thanks had it fixed shifting perfect now I think it just jammed up because I never had the fine tunning done and chain needed a bit of lube the new derailer is a bit higher quality feels alot stroger and shifts better
@xoxoxoxoLIVE you're right Richard. I don't know if anything's built to last 20 years anymore. I'll go with the late 80's. on the quality thing. It's when US manufacturing sold out to Asia.
Following a couple expert village videos helped me with the phantom shifting. I wouldn't really expect this bike to be on the road decades from now, so Zigzagg has a point. I do really like riding it, and it would compare to some LBS bikes in the $400 range.
At $229, you can run it until the tires are bald, and the rims are out of align, pull your lights and rack off it , and put them on a brand new shiny one. It wouldn't owe you anything.
The drive chain has NO slip, that was another poster, He needs adjustments. It did
not seem like you were bashing me, just Walmart....Who cares!!! I am not a big
fan of big box stores anyway, would recommend anyone to buy a bike at a local,
( friendly LBS ) any day, better service, and customer care....I was just posting for the price, this is a nice bike....for people that can do all there own adjustments..
I have no clue how they can sell them so cheap, most people that buy a bike at Walmart, do not know anything about components, I agree with you on the pedals,
cheap fix though, if your bike is jumping gears, it is way out of adjustment even the cheapest ones on the market, would not jump gears if properly adjusted , to keep it fine tuned the only problem is shifting from 6th to 5th on the rear, if not tweaked perfect, can be a little slow changing, It is really a nice bike.....for the price..
I give my trailways high marks as well. Very good bike for road and paved trail riding. I wonder how they turn out a bike like this for so little. It seems to have decent quality components, and is well thought out. I've only got two issues with it. I don't care for the plastic pedals, and it sometimes skips, or jumps a gear when I really exert. That may just be an adjustment. Have you had that occur?
@zigzagg321321 Sorry, I ride what I can afford right now, the brakes are awesome,
once properly adjusted, the quick fire shifters work perfect, I really do not have any
complaints about the bike, except the pedals, If I had 2000.00 dollars to spend on a
new bike, I would just buy new pedals for the one I have...I worked at a LBS for years,
it is not what you have, but what you know......and your right about most bikes from Walmart. .... But this is a Great bike for the price!!! shop around..
@xoxoxoxoLIVE lol..I ride a 1996 Moab 2. I paid 75 bucks for it. I wasnt bashing you...just making a point that the shimano components that come on department store bikes arent the same shimano components that come on the bike from the LBS and that may be why you get drivetrain skip.
Have you had any trouble finding replacement inner tubes? I looked at the Trailway at Target. It looks like an extra long Schrader valve. I thought double-wall rims like that usually use Presta valves.
@az2008yt Yes, I just bought a couple extra long Presta metal stem valve tubes, they work fine, do not bother with the hole reducer, it does not fit that style rim, and is
not really needed anyway, The Presta tubes I bought were chrome and stay centered, you will not even notice..Hope this helps...
@az2008yt Almost the same, I think just different grips and paint, Walmart is cheaper and has a 90 day return policy, Target has you ride it, you bought it !
@xoxoxoxoLIVE ok thanks i think i might go pick me up one

So anyone know where you can get a replacement reflector?

@xoxoxoxoLIVE For the wheels. My back wheel reflector broke off.

saintless 1 year ago
@saintless It is a solid bike for the price, your crank set was probably never
greased correctly from the factory, or over tightened. I actually love the wheels,
I just hate having to but extra long Presta valve stems for a Shrader hole,
Makes no sense to install long valve stems, and then can not buy replacements.
Go Figure, Richard : )

I have the same one its great but rear derailer broke but its repaied dont think I had it tuned right but very nice one
ikey1555 1 year ago
@ikey1555 Once you have it fixed, try going through your gears, and make note
of where the chain seems to run the straightest, on mine being in 2 on the left
and 7 on the right just seems to off set, so I always go ahead and switch to 3 on
the left when I hit 6 on the right. Same thing when your in 1 on the left, mine is at it's
straightest around 1 and 3, so I only use 1 through 5 on the right when in 1 on the left...Kinda of confusing but hope this helps...Richard

I agree with you, but would you rather spend 200.00 dollars, than 2000.00 dollars,
for a bike that( neither ) will be around in 20 years....Think about it....
At what year was pride and quality lost over profit and cool looks...

@jimkinner thats probably because of the cheap-o components that come on all the "walmart bikes." Just cause it says Shimano doesnt mean its good.
