my whole life i've been puzzled as to why, when i was about 10, i saw a swallow liveried HST pass through castleton - a tiny station on the esk valley line that only ever saw a couple of ultra boring dmu's a day..
this video FINALLY solves that mystery and could well feature footage at 3:34 of that very same HST i saw on the VERY same day! shame there's no date though...
And it continues to do so. I can think back to the London-Edinburgh and London-Swansea services. Having been on one before between London St Pancras-Sheffield and looking forward to the London Kings Cross-Sunderland route on Grand Central, it is an amazing experience.
4.02. The HST in Weardale is in County Durham, not Yorkshire as stated on the video.
The Weardale Railway extends from the Bishop Auckland branch through Wolsingham to Stanhope. It was originally used for Cement trains, but after closure of the Blue Circle Quarry the railway has now been re-opened as a Heritage Railway
Excellent stuff! Does anyone remember the speeded up cab ride from London to Reading in the early 80s, I think it might of been on a HST program like this one!
These days, I dont see why the Holyhead services are served with Pendelinos being pulled by 57's when they could just as easily submit more voyagers or reintroduce HST's
probably because its cheaper. i think virgin are actually getting voyagers for the holyhead service. cross country has brought some hsts out of storage and has sent the spare voyagers to virgin. im not a 100% certain though
I have to say this is the definitive video for history on the HST. Newton Abbot looks so much different back then!! Oh the video quality was astounding, i never thought cameras back then were so good! Amazing video.Rating all 5* and faving them too!!! thanks :-)

We have 4 sets of AXC hst's currently working to Plymouth this winter. But then lucky you with the 57's must be better than voyagers.
