Hey, it would be great if you did a demo of the akai miniak vocoder. I know they share the same insides, but since the akai has more controls, and possible a better mic, maybe it results in a better vocoder effect?
@ChrisMcQueen85 Chris use a 1/4" cable and go from the "audio out" jack to a recording interface (i.e. Mbox, Fast Track, etc.). In Cubase, create an audio track, and then make sure the input for that track matches the input you have your Micron plugged into on your interface. Now you can record the sounds from your Micron onto Cubase.
This little synth gives you more sound , more to work with then any other synth I know of its price and size Its not the size of the synth is the motion of the music it makes and as far as music its got more then others in its class.
rather unintelligible. sibilance is almost non-existant, and it sounds like it's trapped in a box. micron is best at weird digital paddy stuff; not so much for 'analog'...real analog's very different
Those vocoders do exist, but are (way) more expensive. This is more like a nice added feature on a synth that (despite build quality) is fantastic even without the vocoder.
Don't take my word for it, but I saw a report that the blue had a better main potmeter. One would hope Alesis have learnt something, and equip the blue one with the steel axle pots and better output mos-fets, but I haven't read that they indeed do this.
Some red ones have better pots too, btw. If you're into buying and happen to like the red one better, there are parts to be had cheaply that you or the nabour can solder in.
whenever I try to use the vocoder on my Micron, I have to keep the volume down real low, otherwise it will make this horrible screeching sound whenever i press a key! I have gone in and tried to change some settings but nothing seems to work! Its almost like its too sensitive or something.
Anyone with vocoder experience care to help me out?
Get a synth with a lot of knobs, it will really help you understand what's going on, you turn a knob and immediately hear what happens. This alesis micron is more of ameny-diving synth, wich is way harder to understand as a beginner. Roland makes a synth called SH-201 wich great as a first synth, check it out.
I use an R3, and although theres some page browsing required while editing, its pretty quick due to the parameters being mapped out under the dial
Im thinking of gettin one of these but I was wondering if editing was slow because you have to scroll through menu's?....or would it be just as simple as the R3?
how many pages do u have to go through?
Unfortunately the Ion's are discontinued in the UK and theres a few on Ebay from taiwan, but there around £850 with delivery...complete rip off!
Editing the Micron is very tedious, but it's a very powerful synth. On the R3 you have 4 params per page and the pages listed on the front panel, but on the Micron you have to pick a single param with THE KNOB and edit. There are shortcuts which help a bit (only after you memorize them!) but it's possibly the worst synth to program since the DX7.
The Micron also has no USB port or E/L software. You can buy third-party E/L software that world over a MIDI cable.
850 quid is a total rip off...ive seen those as well. The irony is when the ion was about, it was being discounted to 350 or so by dealers cause they couldnt shift them.
I never understood why alesis added so much more to the ion "engine" in the micron- step sequencer, fx, etc- but went BACKWARD with the user interface. Fair enough, the micron has sold shitloads- i had one for about a year and rinsed it for scoring and production- but programmability is next to impossible as its aggravating.
"I'm not paying you to talk..." Less talk more play. No one here gives a flying shit how to work it... That is what a product manual is for. People tune in to see demos to hear them not to see how something they don't own works. If it sounds cool and they hear a bunch of what it can do then they buy it. If they know how to work it and they only hear 20 seconds of product demo they assume its one-dimentional. Queer-wire sucks.

Is there a way to transfer the sounds from the Alesis Micron to a music software such as Cubase 5?
ChrisMcQueen85 1 year ago
@ChrisMcQueen85 If there's a way to record audio in cubase then you should be able to . If not try & find some audio recording software (audacity)

You could try putting a noise gate between your mic and the Alesis. ;)
I think an EQ (before the vocoder) could help make a better vocoded sound as well.
But it's yet another machine to add to the setup... :-/
And sadly I'm not even sure the result would be much better than on this video.

True, but the Micron has 399.99 good reasons to prefer it. ^_^

Well, I found an SH-201 for $350.
Then again, the Micron's $275 new right now if you know where to look. [Less after eBay/bing cashback.]

Get a $6 USB-to-MIDI cable off eBay and one of the many Micron editors off the web...edit the parameters on your PC instead of using the knob.
