Humans are causing one of the largest extinctions this planet has ever seen. If we continue to grow there will be nothing left of the natural world. I haven't seen the whole documentary - but as far as I could read in the commentaries bellow this documentary sets only one question: The number of people living on Earth and the amount of recurses Earth can provide. But I personally believe this question should also has as a deal - the geography where each population is living and its relation to the GDP of the country. The population will decrease with the decline of oil production. This is why the world is not consumed with trying to find alternative fuel sources. It will take anywhere from 30-50 years to create an alternative fuel source that gets us away from fossil fuels., something such as hydrogen.
Hardly. If you want some good news on the energy department look at China and India. These 2 countries are both going for Thorium power. Thorium nuclear power is a 100% meltdown safe nuclear power. It is run on Thorium which can power the world for at least the next 10000 years at current levels (Compared to Uranium which is expected to run out in the next 80 years). The waste is 10 to 100 times less radioactive then Uranium based fission.
Reducing birth rates isn't really going to work as all you get is a population of elderly people.
What needs to happen is for older people to die at a much faster rate than babies are born. You get a lower population with plenty of young people to work and progress knowledge.

The Qur'an has been interpreted to ban abortion, however. The increase of the birth rate in the Islamic world has more to do with cultural mores than religion, I think. The Catholic prohibitions are causing population explosions mainly in the poorest regions on the planet. That is the critical difference.

I haven't seen the whole documentary - but as far as I could read in the commentaries bellow this documentary sets only one question: The number of people living on Earth and the amount of recurses Earth can provide. But I personally believe this question should also has as a deal - the geography where each population is living and its relation to the GDP of the country. Some lands can provide more recurses meanwhile others cannot...

Yes I admit, nowadays you have to think 10x before you bring a child into this world, which is pretty much what we Europeans do, we don't make to many children..but when you look at the Muslims immigrants they always have 4 children plus.. the other day I saw 2 families of Muslims and each has 6 children barely 2 yrs apart..it's insanity. Plus last month these 2 Iraq guys told me "One day we are going to take over Sweden" yet nobody does nothing and let them come ....

@jin455...I used to believe in the terraforming theories for Mars, but it has one main flaw. Mars doesn't have a strong enough magnetic field to maintain an atmosphere. You would have to create a magnetic field for Mars. Drill a big hole to the core and stick a mega magnet in it?

People complain about many problems for example struggling to pay bills or not having a job. Imagine what is going to happen with even more people. I have been to places like Mexico city where there is rampant poverty and suffering due to a large population. The problem is going to become much more dire in the next decade and the next. Events such as the London riots are going to become much more frequent and devastating. I am not a pessimist but the future is far from bright

Of course not easy but solves the problem. The space colonies could hold millions of people and terraformed Mars and Venus could hold a few billion and Earth holds billions too.

@ARSA525 Colonies to most of those places would be nearly impossible. Mars needs a magnetic field else solar wind blows away any atmosphere. The only idea I have heard so far to create a magnetic field would be run a collosal ring of metal around the equator and magnetise it. Which if moved from Earth to Mars, would deplete out reserves so badly Earth would be screwed, not to mention to cost of fuel which would be so high as to bankrupt Earth many times over.

The population will decrease with the decline of oil production. This is why the world is not consumed with trying to find alternative fuel sources. It will take anywhere from 30-50 years to create an alternative fuel source that gets us away from fossil fuels., something such as hydrogen.

Hardly. If you want some good news on the energy department look at China and India. These 2 countries are both going for Thorium power. Thorium nuclear power is a 100% meltdown safe nuclear power. It is run on Thorium which can power the world for at least the next 10000 years at current levels (Compared to Uranium which is expected to run out in the next 80 years). The waste is 10 to 100 times less radioactive then Uranium based fission.

Reducing birth rates isn't really going to work as all you get is a population of elderly people.
What needs to happen is for older people to die at a much faster rate than babies are born. You get a lower population with plenty of young people to work and progress knowledge.
Yet there are so many people dedicated to extending the human lifespan, curing diseases, saving lives in 3rd world countries. Sorry this is not good work & it's a massive waste of time.

To the peanuts that argue mortality rates is keeping population growth in check - you are exactly that - population GROWTH averaged worldwide has been a steady 7% for a century and a half. 7% you say - that's not that much at all - I get more on my savings account. 7% means that the population doubles every 70 years. If you have an infant child it will mean that in your child's lifetime there will be double the amount of people on the globe. This means a doubling of resource consumption too....

@JiminyKracker The increase in the Muslim birthrate has increased markedly in recent decades. Islam has never banned birth control methods prohibited by the Catholic church for millenia. The Qur'an has been interpreted to ban abortion, however. The increase of the birth rate in the Islamic world has more to do with cultural mores than religion, I think. The Catholic prohibitions are causing population explosions mainly in the poorest regions on the planet. That is the critical difference.
