It seems to me here in the US we have a for profit, insurance based, health care system and the insurers routinely reject health care for people.

A not for profit single payer system is not even on the table, that seems awful sad to me.

If the Kucinich plan is passed States would be allowed to devise their own single payer system.

Well yeah, other states should not:

Pass something like prop 13 that makes property taxes stupidly low

Vote for Republican governors who used to be actors

Require 2/3 vote for passing a budget and tax raises

So yeah other states should not be as conservative as us.

Conservatives go all apoplectic about how government bureaucracy will prevent people from getting care -- when the truth is that insurance co's and HMOs do EXACTLY THAT to a much greater degree than gov't services like the VA and Medicare do.
