  • I like what the guy said about marrying You. You are very cute and exceptionally great with your hands. I'm a chef that just needed a refresher on measurements and You blew me away with the peanuts music, that's absolutly my favorite. I;m 50 years old and you probably have a husband anyway, great job on your vidio. Love David.

  • I only have one question about this recipe. Do they not become chewy? I only ask because you handled the dough a lot.

  • @992kirky Compared to hard bread rolls which are usually mixed for 10-15 mins by a mixer, 3 mins seems like just enough time to allow all of the dry ingredients to absorb the water with minimal gluten development. Furthermore, resting relaxes the gluten strands created while kneading. Natural yeast in the air also contributes to the tenderness. It wasn't handled enough to pass a window pane test, so I imagine they were very soft as evidenced by the puff level while cooking.

  • Excellent recipe my kids loved it thank you.

  • u married. great vid.

  • I just made these. My 2 1/2 year old son couldn't wait for these to cool down. Easy to make. I used vege oil and still very tasty. I will never buy flour tortillas again at the store.

  • hendricks you moron radon occurs in ALL organic materials-rocks sand minerals concrete bricks clay plants (especially wacky weed which you've either been smoking too much or not enough). It's only a danger in areas where it occurs in soil at high levels & you've built a weather tight house, effectively trapping released particles inside. Rolling a tortilla out on a granite countertop is not going to pose a significant radiation hazard in the home. Get a science education, fer cryin' out loud!

  • I'd be careful about rolling out the dough on that granite counter top... check with whoever installed it and double check that it is ok to use. Some granite used in counter tops release small amounts of radon =(

  • I like the way you knead.

  • Well done!

  • Love this video! Hope to see more.

  • Thank you so much for this recipe. I made it tonight and it was delicious!!! Taste better than the ones I buy at the store :)

  • let the fucking tortilla rise girl it's gonna flatten anyway by itself...everyone does this..wtf

  • Very nice job. Do you put oil on the griddle? And do these last in the refrigerator for a week or two without getting moldy?

  • Nice but this are not original recipes from ranch families . :( !

  • Vegetable shortening is hydrogenated vegetable oil. You can use lard instead.

  • @TwentyBuxOrz a lot of lard (like Armour brand's Manteca Lard in the green tubs or boxes) has hydrogenated fats (very unhealthy fat). Shortening probably has more, but a healthier alternative with a lard flavor is to buy lard that's been rendered by a local Mexican grocery store.

  • @mrgenc333 use vegetable oil :)

  • No one man should have all that flooouuuuur

  • @Denshuu funniest shit ever

  • You can roll my balls around anytime. They look good, I will try and make some later. I just hope they turn out as good.

  • anyway to make this without vegetable shorting?

  • I love this tortilla recipe! I tried it out almost a year ago and now this is the only recipe I use for tortillas. Thank you for sharing!

  • thank you ,you made it look easy ...now i am going to the kitchen and have a try

  • Charley Brown Music Rocks..

  • Thank you, My Tortilla woes are over!!!

  • Great video!

  • Thank you, I forgot to buy the tortillas and now I am making them. Many blessings to you and your family.

  • i like to flavor my tortillas with Jalapenos and fresh garlic.

  • amazing

  • cool tortilla

  • Thanks a million!!!

  • I followed this exact but......my tortillas actually broke in half....they were sooo hard. Does it sound like too much baking powder or....I dont know. I followed it exactly as instructed HELP!!

  • @twilightfan337 did you cover them with a towel as they come off the stove?

  • The end product looks good. Wouldn't the hot water cook the flour a bit? Why did you use very hot water as oppose to warm? I would think that the dough would be partially cooked with the hot water.

  • you're cute.. .marry me... :-)

  • You did a great job, you can make the rolling process a bit easier with the tortilla press though. They cost 12-20 dollars and work miracles. Thanks for posting.

  • @JohnnyRoastbeef21 i bought a tortilla press that not only flattens them but cooks them as well, if i remember right its called a Chapati or Roti maker works great for all flat breads.

  • @Thanks i will look into that.

  • I made mine with non-hydrogenated Leaf Lard and they came out great and soft!

  • Thank You, Thank You Thank You for the concise and easy to follow instructions in English. That is very very helpful!!!! I love making things from scratch, and I want to always follow the instruction to the letter, so I know it will turn out correctly.. Thanks again!!!!

  • 0:05 ahh her beauty

  • This is a GREAT recipe! I have used alot and this one is the BEST! taste like my mother n laws!!! : )

  • I used this recipe earlier this evening... I made my first ever really Good tortillas. They were the best!

  • Very instructive and looking forward to making my own now.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Great recipe! Although, I needed to add more water to get a pliable dough. Probably because I was using a different flour. I used Canola oil instead of shortening. It was fun to make, and I am very very pleased with the tasty tortillas!

Thank-you for showing us how! Yum! I'm spreading butter and peanut butter on one now. : ) Brian.

  • she is so cute i forgot to watch and see what she was making lol

  • i've tried to make them, but with out the baking powder and the vege short (don't know what it is) so, just flour water and salt, to make them a bit more "light" but they came out rubbery

  • Thank you!

  • Nice touch with the balls.

  • my abuelita use to make tortillas from scratch and man they were off tha chanklas!! ive been to all kind of authentic rest. and never could find anyone to match up to my abuelitas homemade flour tortillas, i never got her recipe but im going to try urs thanks!

  • @ronniedg44 the missing ingredient that you need is lard thats what they used back then. Lard gives the flavor to the tortilla you could even incorporate a tablespoon of bacon grease with the lard. Also if you want in a cast iron pan or skillet heat up an inch of oil, roll out the tortilla and place it in the hot oil and you have sopapillas or fry bread. Pretty neat huh. Oh Walmart has the tortillas that all you do is cook them on a griddle for tortillas or as sopapillas is that cheating LOL

  • May Sound Dumb But Can I Make Burritos From This ?

  • @ultimatesonicfanful1 lol... yes

  • one time i did them..but the dough was already done... my husband aunt gave ready dough so for me just to cook them..... but not even like that i couldnt do them... what else can i use for them to come out circle....... beacuse mine they where like alll shapes of the usa... lol..... and what can i do or use for them not to get hard... by the time i was eatign the tortillas they weree all hard n differetns shapes ..lol .... WHAT CAN I DO... cuz my husband love totillas...

  • you sure are good with a rolling pin. :) Very informative video! Shows everything one needs to know about making flour tortillas it seems. :D

  • I just wanted to say thanks. I'm from south Texas but I'm in the military stationed in japan. My mom always made homemade tortillas but she was so use to it she would never measure anything out. So I knew the ingredients but not the measurements. Thanks for your tutorial, now I can make them myself whenever I'm feeling a little homesick.

  • So beautiful and easy to follow! Thank you for your great tutorial.

  • if you add sugar to the mix you have sweet tortillas. you could make sweet tortillas for fruit fillings.

  • I will never buy from the store again. These are great and they freeze well so you can make a big batch. I tried the tortilla press....don't waste your money. Roll 'em out.

  • awsome. i make them all the time too. thanks so much. i learned from my abwela and since ive shown this video to my friends they really understand how fun and easy it is to have fresh flower tortias.

  • When I hear that music, I always think of Snoopy doing his little dance, lol!!

Can I make only half the recipe, and can I freeze them??

  • Wow! LOVED IT!!! and loved the Charlie Brown music lol pretty neat, to say the least! :) Oh! and that lady cooking, she's too cute!!! She resembles an actress (can't remember her name right now, sorry)... really too cute!!! Thanks for this great video!!! :))))

  • by any chance do u know how to make sopes from scratch? everytime i try 2 make it from scratch i never get the dough to come out right? do u have any suggestions on what to do to calculate the mixes to make the dough come out perfect?

  • im not sure why people use fat in tortilla wraps recipe. I never use any fat or baking powder and they turn out fine. once i tried adding some fat and it made them cook more like pastry texture. i never add any shortnening and they seem perfect. I have also found turning cooking them in a pan turned upside down works better so you cook them on the bottom of the skillet which is totally flat and has no raised edges. it works better

  • thank you! I have been trying to make tortillas for a long time! I still haven't got the circular shape down...but they taste great!

  • I feel like shiting rainbows from that music...

  • Hi, I was wondering if you know anything about a cloth or fabric that mexicans use to keep the tortillas warm. I know it's called something that sounds like sarbageta or sarbajita. or maybe it's two words like sarba jita?? If someone knows, could you please tell me. I actually want to decorate one myself.

  • Tried your recipe and loved it!

  • I've made a few batches of this recipe and last time, what I did was instead of 3 1/2 cups of flour, i only put in 3 and then added a half a cup of corn flour. This gave it the easy to work with properties of wheat flour but gave it a slightly Mexican corn tortilla taste. I encourage everyone to try it.

  • You make it look so easy! I will try it!

  • You are so cute. Sweet smile!

    Thanks for the video

  • OK, you tortilla making gurus... My tortillas always shrink. I roll out this beautiful 9 inch tortilla and as soon as I pick it up to cook it starts shrinbking. As it cooks it shrinks down to maybe 5 inches and gets really thick.... How can I stop this from happening. It does this either rolled or pressed in a tortilla press BOTH,,, commercial flour or homemade dough they BOTH do this. Anyone know why and willing to help? Please!!! :-)

  • @Landotter1 in order for the tortilla to maintain its flattened shape the dough must be rolled until the gluten strands break down. Im guessing this may be your problem

  • @trendavi How do I know when they are broken down. What texture in the dough do I look for or feel? Thanks for the post!

  • Great vid....Thank you!!!

  • Looks delicious, have to try it!

  • hey, this is a great recipe, thanks for putting it, you can substitute the shortening for olive oil in the same amounts it it comes out just as good! Trust me, yumm and healthy

  • im gonna try rolling mine out to the the size of my oven in a square shape and lay them on the rack and cook a massive large one and fill it then cut it into individual servings. it doesnt have to be round

  • Just made some tortillas using your recipe and they are amazingly delicious! Thank you!

  • I just used this video to make quesadillas. Thanks =)

  • That was a great video on flour tortillas! Thanks

  • My flour tortillas keep on wanting shrink and they end up to thick can someone please help me

  • Does it matter if the flour is bleached or unbleached

  • Does it matter if the flour is bleached or unbleached?

  • Does it matter if the flour is bleached or unbleached?

  • Thanks a lot......

  • Can i use butter instead of shortening ?

  • I totally agree with Fitange; this is the best how to make tortilla vid! So easy and perfect every time! THanks!

  • Fabulous, Thank you!

  • is there a general flour to water ratio?

  • I don't think the water is enough .everytime I have tried this recipe the dough is hard

  • @jdlocotxftw2002 Add more. :I

  • @EmoraChan13 . .well I know that . . . but usually when a recipe is posted you kinda sorta list the exact amount needed. What I was trying to find out if 1 cup of water is listed, then why would it need more. I was just curious if there was a special mixing technique or something.

  • @jdlocotxftw2002 ...in older times, people didn't always measure. It's still that way today. Add water bit by bit until it's soft and malleable enough for you to use it.

  • @EmoraChan13 - Yes I understand that. Nevermind, thanks.

  • wat is vegetable shortening

  • Those look PERFECT!!

  • Que linda! I'm gonna go make some tortillas now! Thanks for the video.

  • grr shouldnt have watched this...

i want one with everything please!

  • i don't like backing powder, can i use other things? Or not put?

  • @deahera You can leave it out, but they won't puff up as much as when you add it. Flavor wise it is the same with our without it.

  • @abrahamdiaz19 Actually, some people (myself included) are overly sensitive to the taste of baking powder when it's used in large quantities. It tastes like metal to us. Strange but true.

  • @deahera baking soda is a good option

  • @aly21709 Thanks for the reply, in Italy we often use fresh yeast, which is natural. But the desserts are now widely used in powder which I think are always based on baking soda to the speed of preparation, once expected to rise naturally enough :-)

  • @deahera What do you, don't like baking powder? What it's not to like about it? :D If you don't use it, the dough won't rise and it will stay flat.

  • @846524162 - I know it should be used for cakes because often is decided in a hurry to do it, but I see that sometimes you use too much. Here, in south Italy, we use to make bread with yeast, flour and water. The same goes for the vinegar, the wine is left to ferment, ne storijo enako?. All you need is time and there is no need to use chemical things.

  • @deahera Oh so you think baking powder is too much chemical, I know what you mean. I personally don't think that way, when yeast is in recipe I use yeast and when there is baking poweder, I use baking powder. Storijo enako :)

  • this recipe can put your mexican restaurant out of business like someone already said. they taste more like indian naan tortillas.

  • I just made some yesterday... Only used flour (wheat), non-hydrogenated Country Crock spread, salt and water. They turned out great!
