Grey's Anatomy Bomb Scene

This was the very first episode of Grey's that I ever watched. I believe it was after an NFC championship game or after a Super Bowl or something?? The bomb scene, I remember thinking wow this show rocks...then they had like two weeks without a new episode after this one and I sort of phased out.

i LOVE Kyle Chandler (the bomb guy) he won an emmy for this... highly recommend to thoe who like him to watch "Friday Night Lights" Kyle Chandler plays the head coach in that amazing tv series. Love ya Coach Taylor!!!!!!!!

A bazooka warhead isn't so powerful... additionally it is a shaped charge, designed to focus its explosion in one direction as opposed to a directional blast. The EOD guy carrying the warhead would most probably be killed, but he would not have been blown to bits.

The explosion here is almost as if the guy was wearing a suicide belt.

What I hate from this episode is that Derek and Burke were claimed as heroes and nobody said anything about the two from the bomb squad (what a waste, years and years of training and lots of money from taxes thrown away in just an instant, for the stupidity of two toy soldiers who were as stupid to test their home made bazooka with them as a target), What a great way to leave the world.

I can't begin to explain the problems with this. It's a WW2 re-enactor who made the rocket, but assuming he did it correctly, the entire detonating mechanism was gone. The only pulled the head of the rocket out of the guy. The central part was missing and that has the part thats sets off the warhead, which is a high explosive round. The backblast from a shape charge would have certainly killed her too, and the guy's flak vest wouldn't have vanished like that!

It'd look pretty bad afterward, but a shaped charge would explode mostly in two directions, not totally outward. There would still be a torso that looked like siwss cheese with the shredded vest covering it, and maybe parts of his upper legs sticking out of it and not much else.

I've seen an antitank shaped charge explode before, just a black puff of smoke with a little flash of fire in the centre.. the bazooka isn't a really powerful warhead as HEAT warheads go.

It would not have been blown into tiny bits the way he did almost as if he was wearing a suicide vest... probably would have lost his arms thou.

I don't know why they weren't wearing any head protection. What's the point of wearing a flack vest as an EOD when your head is exposed?

when arriving at hostpital, the paramedic (named Hanna) got freaked of the situation, and took her hand quickly outside the patient and ran away.

Meredith who stood near her, shoved her hand instead, stopping the bleeding but holding the shell aswell.

from there, the bom squad leader Dylan explains her that the bomb shell is homemade and therfor very dangerous, what which probably caused it to blow off in the hallway.

apperantly, the bazooka got jammed, so her husband got infront of the bazooka when the shell release off the bazooka tube and entered his stomch, causing him to faint out, yet the shell itself did not explode.

the paramedic who reached the scene of accident shoved her hand in order to stop the bleeding when her hand was both stopping the patient from bleeding to death & holding the shell stable inside him.

at the begining of the episode, a wounded patient arrives at the hostpital with a hole in his stomch area. they get him into a surgery while alex is trying to figure from hsi wife what exactly happend.

she explains alex that her husband (the patient with bomb) and his friend were re-creating a World War 2 battle, in which they built a homemade M1A1 Bazooka Rocket Launcher.

There was a bomb in the patient because, as they were making a bomb, it exploded and a live one ended up inside the guys body. Meredith's hand was in the patient because the girl who had her hand in the patient before freaked out and decided to take her hand out, but Meredith took the girls place. Hope that helps

We don't see the crash. They just bring him in knowing he was in a car accident. In fact, the doctors didn't even know he was Bailey's husband until he said that his wife was in labour in this hospital and it finally clicked.
