  • he raises his index finger way to high. you sould never move your fingers far no matter what intrument, its less efficient and you can't play as fast

  • @dirosaga erm he is instructing not playing a concert. maybe you have no idea how to teach and therefor don't understand why he is playing the way he is? its not as if he is able to correct a student through the monitor so the best way to ensure everyone can play the tune correctly is by making it very obvious how he is playing, which results in lifting the fingers higher than neccesary...

  • @silvermam well maybe he should make it clear that you shouldnt move ur fingers that much, and that he is moving them more for instructions case. ps u are a fucking douchebag and i hope you fucking die (not really, cuz than i'd be as much of a douche as you). Good day.

  • numbers please)

  • thank you so much ryan!!! i am not very good in understanding the english language...but its so easy to learn with your tutorials! (i can play the flute...so it isnt to difficult;))

  • I like your whistle very much. What it is

  • Could you please add numbers of this song ? Thanks

  • I'm a beginner, just started last week.

These lessons are very usefull, so thanks alot.

    I got one question:

the harder I blow, the harder the tone will get...

Am I doing things wrong, or is it just that such a tone can´t be played more silent?

  • put up some music

  • it would be a lot easier to learn if you could put numbers in the discription talking about the holes you cover.

  • !!!I'm viewer number 66666

  • Peg Ryan's/Egan's polka is song #46 ("Kerry Polka", page 30) in the "50 simple tunes for tin whistle" book.

  • is it possible to play el condor pasa in a Generation Tin Whistle?

  • Do you play the tim whistle is mass? it would be great

  • I've been wanting to get a tin whistle for years, but I haven't been able to find any good tutorials for it, so I've never really committed to the idea. Since coming across these videos, I feel confident that I can learn to play the whistle; needless to say, I'm going out to get myself a whistle this weekend. Thank you so much!

  • way to slow....its supposed to be faster

  • Your tutorials are fantastic, but I finally realized what always seems awkward about them...You barely blink while you're playing! Not a bad thing. Just saying.

  • CAN i have te tin whistle notes for that whole song

  • These are really good lessons. I followed them 2 to 3 years ago, then didn't touch the tin whistle for about a year. I am following them again, and the foundations that Ryan gives are coming back very quickly. This to me shows the quality of lessons, as long as you practice them them.

  • NUNS

  • pleese tell me what the notes are

  • @My123456789101

FABA FABA DEFED BA FABA FABA DEFE DD

FAF EE DBA DE FE DBA FAF EE DBA DE FE DD

  • Thanks for these lesson I have learned a lot form them.

I downloaded the sheet music from your blog and notice the the video and the music don't match. I am not too musical savvy but I think it is on measure 8 and 16. You have an extra E note that is not played. In the video is seems like you play E D D, but the sheet music goes E D D E.

Is this correct or am I missing something. Thanks again for doing these videos!

  • Thanks for the amazing lessons, does anyone know if you can take the tin whistle as an insturment for 3rd year music?

  • ryanduns is awesome teaching i recently own a clarke whistle key D

    and i play recorder too

  • the songs are too long to learn easily, could you provide some tabs or music scripture?

  • does anybody know where i can get the tabs for this song online.? regards.

  • great lessons thankyou,

  • Thank you for these wonderful lessons! They do roll by quickly, but with some persistence it's not too difficult for the online learner to keep up.

  • Thank you so much for your gift of these lessons. I'm having so much fun with them!

  • whats is the name of the song you played in this lesson...i couldnt understand it at the beginning

  • it's Egan's. it's on his blog (url top right)

  • Awesome lessons! I started with your lessons and ur right if you keep at it it begins to come together. TY TY TY

  • I really appreciate these wonderful lessons. I just got my whistle and I am so happy to have these! Thank you so much. God bless you!!!

  • would sum1 pls send me the link to that website with the notes :)? tnx

  • Oooh this one is going to be fun! I think this might last more than a week .... The notes are on the website eh? That`s good, I was having trouble following the last one, I`ll look at that...... :)

  • This has been the easiest lesson so far for me. Its easier for me to play the higher notes than the lower ones. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this. God bless.

  • he has all the notes on his website that is posted in the info

  • hey i can play the tin whistle and have done since i was young but i found it hard to follow your fingers on the video even tho i no the song maybe you could put the notes to the song under you playing so people can follow you better

  • agreed i am strugglin and ive only been playin about 4 weeks

  • yep me too!

  • Thank you man! I'm sitting here in germany an can learn al the stuff because of your videos.

  • try working on your blowing, if htat dose not work in lesson one he recomends lifting your pointer finger on your top hand when going up to the next octave.

  • i get an airy hiss when i go to the high octave... but i know all my holes are covered properly.. could it be the breath? or is it just my cheap GENERATION tin whistle?

  • it is probably the whistle, Generation are known to be quite poor nowadays(due to a new mouthpiece design).Try a Feadog they are cheap but good quality

  • thanks... will do so :)

  • Is it right that the first note at this tune first sounds very strange becouse it is this high?

I feel very unsure by playing this, but maybe its normal that it sounds strange at the beginning?

  • je viens de mettre toutes les vidéos en favoris javais jamais osé me lancer mais là je sens que c'est bien parti lol

  • Im new to tin whistling...and to traditional Irish music as well (im from Germany)..i got a Whistle including a Tutor-book on amazon but was hard for me to learn since i do not know how all these songs should sound in the end. Thats why i appreciate the videos and you introducing the songs very well.

Though this Egan's Polka is a quite kinky one o.o

  • Thanks again. Five months now and I still start at lesson one and the improvement continues. Am I accomplished? NO! but improved? YES! I have patience now that I never had before and I'm better for it. THANKS!

  • thanks so much! I've been having trouble getting faster in songs and these lessons really help!

  • Thanks so much!! I just got my first pennywhistles today and these lessons are really helpful.

  • this one's actually easier for me, because for me, it's harder NOT to overblow on the F,E, and D than to overblow, so this song, which only has overblowing on them, is much easier for me! =)

  • This song definitely proves difficult for me, as I'm not used to playing fast songs by watching a video, since I tend to learn them better on my own, but thanks Ryan for putting your videos out there because they definitely do help me out.

  • Sorry. I did write the notes out propally but it didn't seem to work. Here they are. FABAFABA DEFEDBA FABAFABA DEFEDD :

: FAFEEDBA DEFEDBA FAFEEDBA DEFEDD :

Repeat the first two lines and repeat the second two lines.

  • These are the notes played. The 1 and 2 show which octave the notes are playes in, 1 is normal and 2 means you have to blow harder. F# means F sharp (don't worry about it).

    Very good video!

  • What are the cords for this?

  • There are no chords; you play one note at a time..

  • He's teaching based off of sound and observation. Sheet music has it's place, however learning like this you will end up a much better player in ANY instrument.

  • not in any instrument... not in any style of music. however, I really don't like reading sheet for the whistle.

  • I agree, the only way I can really get better at a tin whistle song (or any irish song, for that matter) is to hear it slowly first, then getting faster on my own.

  • THANK YOU RYAN!!! After seeing your lessons I thought maybe I can play music too. I bought a tin whistle and am following your lessons. You are so clear and easy to understand. Thanks to you I can play several songs and have even been able to impress my niece and nephew! I never thought I would be able to play music. I'm having a blast. THANK YOU RYAN!!!!

  • arg...cant to it (back to lesson 3 for me lol)

  • arg...cant to it (back to lesson 3 for me lol)

  • Thankyou, I have learn't the tune. How do I get the sheet music so that I am not learning by ear and can read the music as I go along? Ps my 8yr daughter is now learning with me.

  • thank you so much. this is great.

  • I'm a little confused on when you should tongue notes. Is it only when you're going from a low note to a high note and vise versa? And is it only when you repeat a note? It seems like those are the only times you tongue notes, from what I understand. Or do you tongue every single not you play?

  • You can if you prefer, the idea is to articulate the notes as he said, to separate them

  • @Eirelav111 in this case, he tounges all of them. you usually only need to when you are playing the same not 2 or more times and you need to seperate them

  • How can i reach the high F from the low F, what the difference between these notes in playing?

    I couldn't understand that.

By the way, congrats for the videos, just awesome!

  • just blow harder

  • thx dude, i'm already bought the whistle, and easyly did understand that.

    Thx again ;)

  • Can you post up the notes for that polka please?Much apriciated.Well done in playing by the way

  • Are the score on the blog slightly different from what you play? I feel like the ending of the first part is different.

Once again, thank you so much for the valueable job you share with the whole world on the internet.
