@belairlover93 I meant, why the plow was "bending" I guess you could say (I know it isnt really bending). But I know it has something to do with the springs on the plow that make it do that. Is it the springs or something else on the plow that make the plow bend over like it does?
@TheHondadirtbiker the spring are there to keep the plow from breaking. if it was solid mount it would destroy the plow frame, plow, and maybe even the frame on the truck if the blade hits anything burried in the ground.a good friend thought it was better to use steel cable instead of springs and ruined a $3000 plow setup.
It looks like an old Meyers 2 spring home owners plow. It was designed to fold that like so your truck doesn't take a beating. Have one on my old Dodge. Just added two more springs and it was fine.
its a cool engine for sure. but if you were plowing my lot/driveway at all hours of the night.. I would fire your butt in a min. We would get complaints about noise if we even thought of using a truck like that.... But I still love it
ya need stronger springs on yer plow to keep it from rollin over in little snow like that..badass truck overall! i'd love to equip my truck with a Detroit Diesel!
Ford DOES build their own diesel engines. They've had a straight-6 since 1991, which was first used in the mid-range F-Series and the Cargo tilt-cab trucks. The International 7.3 liter is used only in the lighter F-series.
Actually, John, those two Brazilian-built diesels you're referring to (they were also used in their New Holland-brand farm equipment), which displace 6.6 and 7.8 liters, had actually started life as far back as the 6.6 being used in the Cargo COE (which was to succeed the Ford C-series, which was produced from 1957-90) and then in 1987 availability was extended to the F-600, F-700, F-7000, F-800, F-8000, L-7000 and L-8000 mediums.
The 7.3L Powerstroke is made by International, the Ford 6's are made in Brazil, I don't know if it's a division of Ford or just an outside contractor.
Nope. Its a full trip moldboard. When the cutting edge encounters an obstacle, the entire blade bends forward to clear it. A trip edge, allows just the cutting edge to trip and clear the obstacle.
ford used the cummins motor long before dodge ever did. They used it in their medium and some of their heavy duty lines back to the late 70's. Once again ford does something first and everyone else follows.
Gilligs, mostly. Some of the Kenworth Pacific school coaches, now long since retired (50's vintage) were equipped with 6V52T's. Only one Crown in the fleet until the district bought some new ones around 1983, and it had a 6V52. The newer ones had the inline Detroit and automatic trannies!
Boy, this sure brings back memories... about a third of the school bus fleet I rode to school were powered with 6V53T's... Rest were 3208 Cat's,
and IHC I-6 gassers, later replaced with the first iteration of the DT466! All I think have been replaced by now... but the school district wasn't one for replacing a perfectly good school bus until it became fiscally impossible to keep them on the road... Some put in over 40 years active service.
your plow i so loose. but that means its actualy been used not like alot of guys that buy a plow for there truck and plow 100 feet a snow storm. nice sounding truck ya got there man
Hi i have 653 detroit out of an old excavator and want to put it in my 67 gmc wich is a ton 4x44 the question i have is about the large 10 b0lt bell housing and the deep sump oil pab . did you find away to put the engine in without using these?? also mine is supercharged wich makes the install height alittle higher
Once a VERY common fire truck engine. In fact the engine in this truck came out of an American LaFrance. I used to belong to a volunteer fire company and when we were going to repower an old Seagrave pump we had, I selected a 6V-53T for it. The rig had to give up the ghost in 2002 but the engine I heard went into some guy's boat. I LOVED seeing that truck going out on a run with both its siren and 6V-53T screaming their lungs out.
Actually I used to see a lot of Wonder Bread step-vans that had Ford chassis with 3-53 and 4-53 Detroits in them back in the 1970's. The ones with the 3-53's had Boyertown bodies, the ones with the 4-53's were larger Grumman Curbmasters. Both kinds had Ford chassis.
Come on man. Can't I just poke fun and that be the end. Your talking about a custom aftermarket company that uses multiple brand parts. So its cool to run Cummins in Fords now that Ford sell them in their Medium duties? BS. Would a diehard Chevy guy put anything other than a Chevy in a Chevy. NEVER. Would a Mopar guy ever put a chevy in anything Chrysler? NEVER. What ever.
You're right. Trouble is it's hard to tell when you READ something whether somebody is kidding or not. It's not like you can look at someone's face and see the smirk. But you're right.
@75LS1Vega if im not mistaken is detriot not a gm motor? my uncle has a old petibone logging loader and is has a 372 detriot in it and it is clearly stamped on the side of the motor GM. This thing is very old though. When did ford use the motors?
how did you get the detroit to mate up to your transmision and what kind of clutch did you use? i have a 72 highboy that i would like t put a 4-53 in.

uh bro, ford uses a v8 diesel. cummins is the only straight six..
powersguy 2 years ago
For the light trucks (up to F-550) Ford uses the 7.3L V-8 Powerstroke. Larger F-Series trucks use the 2 sizes of 6's.
SeagraveRules 2 years ago
which is still probably a cummins powerplant

I can't see how you could move wet/heavy snow with a plow that flips over.

Nope. Its a full trip moldboard. When the cutting edge encounters an obstacle, the entire blade bends forward to clear it. A trip edge, allows just the cutting edge to trip and clear the obstacle.
