how much did everything cost you in total besides the fish. I just bought a 14 gallon biocube and am wondering how much money (around) I would have to spend to make it look attractable like yours.
How are you liking the BioCube? I just ordered one. Are there any modifications you'd reccomend making to it before I start? (this is my first saltwater tank)
very nice tank i have an 8 gal with some cured live rock in it and some snails and hermits as for fish i had a six line wrasse but hes been missing for more than week now so i replaced him with a 3 striped damsel my friend gave me i also do supplement with the ESV B-ionic 2 part solution. my tank has no coral yet and i was wondering how long i have to wait before i can start adding some corals id like to get some beginner coral to start with
ok do u mean 3-4 weeks from when i put the live rock in? or 3-4 weeks from when i added the damsel cuz i have had my live rock in for a little over a month now
I meant 3-4 wks from when you put the live rock in. More importantly, wait until your parameters stabilize (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite). You'll experience a spike of each, indicating you're cycling. Wait until ammonia and nitrite drop to zero and nitrate is fairly low. After that, you should be safe to add a few corals. Start slow.
did you add any extra lighting? because i have the same tank and im looking for corals to add. i have a toadstool, mushrooms, and polyps but i was looking at torch and a tree so yeah. did you modify the lighting? and what supplements do you use?
This video is with stock lighting. After 10 months, I switched to Current USA bulbs, which gave a little more balanced color, but the same overall output. I had to move the torch up higher in the tank because it started to look a little dark. At a higher position, it returned to the lighter color shown in this vid. My cree LED video will show what other corals are possible in a stock tank. Placement is important.
WOW. well that helps because i cant afford any extra lighting. So you just have one 24 watt actinic and one 24 watt 10,000K? What do you supplement with?
The bulbs I have now are one 27w 6,500/10,000k and one 27w 420nm/460nm actinic. I use the stock ballasts, so they are only being run at 24w each. This vid was with the original bulbs. I've always struggled keeping alk up, so right now I'm using ESV B-ionic 2 part soln to try to keep the alk up. It's not working very well. I'm also trying to get my magnesium up to see if that is the problem. Other than that, I typically just do weekly water changes (2 gal)
I spent way too much. I was impatient. So I bought cured live rock, stocked it quickly, and bought all my equipment locally. I could have saved a bunch by buying online. I spent close to $900. The tank = $190. The stand = $110. $125 on rock/sand. $100 on test kits, $250 = misc, heater, extra pump, water jugs, salt, ATO, auto feeder, GFCI, etc. The rest went towards stocking it. Had I been patient, I could have saved by buying online. Now that the tank is setup, I only spend $30-$35/mo.
I have a 14 gal as well! Yours looks really nice! Mine is coming along as well! But your right it is really expensive! Ive probebly put 1200-1500$ into my tank lol well in canada its a little more pricey.... tank was 280$, sand and live rock was about 250 (I have 20 lbs of live rock 20 lbs of live sand.)
What alse do i have. Oh ya I have a few Pulsing xenias, a few collonys of zoos a star polyp mat and a bunch of shrooms! Ill post a vid for it on youtube some time as well!

Wait until you're done cycling. I think I waited about 3-4 weeks for my tank.
