I am forever indebted to you for posting this! This is right at the top of the best memories I have of childhood and watching Sesame Street. I was amazed that hearing the music on this, I remembered it pretty much note-for-note. Thank you again!
Click my name to check out our video made entirely from the cartoons they used to teach children about words and letters on old episodes of Sesame Street! :D
This was such a cute skit, I remember it well, the pitcher for some reason always reminded me of the kool-aid pitcher as a kid..still a true gem!! Thanx!
1 of my favourite parts is when the grass sprouts up! 1 more virtue of water not mentioned here: it has been found that regular drinking of plain water helps fight obesity. You don't want to be obese, do you?
Good point about obesity! As for me, I think I remember this. The part where the 'pitcher' turns into a 'bowl' with vegetables and says 'Soup!' sounds somewhat familiar.
@zaxxoid I know EXACTLY how you feel, only I couldn't phrase it as well as you just did. This is such a simple cartoon and yet it really does seem to reassure you that it's those simple little things that can make you happy.
Yes I remember the Spanish version of this sequence. I remember Spanish versions of several sequences, such as the Jazzy Spies sequences, that don't seem to be on youtube.
I don't know the title, but it's a piece of "production music"---pre-recorded music available for a low fee, for use in movies, TV shows, etc. In fact, it was used in a Public Service Announcement about pesticides---very disturbing, considering this "Water" clip! The PSA is on YouTube, as "1960's USDA Use Pesticides Safely PSA".
This music was also used on "Sesame Street" in a film sequence about a boy talking about how much he liked rain, and convincing his dad to go walking in the rain with him. The sequence opened with an arrangement of Bach's Sinfonia from Cantata No. 156 — the first time I heard that lovely piece. The Sesame gang really knew their music!
Agreed--especially kids' TV shows. Every child-psychology book will tell you that preschoolers like bright colors; that's why Sesame Street characters look the way they do, and why our favorite childhood cartoons feel "wrong" in black and white.
OH!!! I loved this. I especially loved the layered drink, and wanted Mum to make me one! 0:46

From a bumper sticker I saw in a catalogue (and I should buy one, really) --
"If there is magic on this Earth, it exists in water."
I get a special feeling from these memories too. :D

Something about the narration to this really mellows me out...
when he says "water can be turned into ice, and make things taste good:, it's phenomenally reassuring.

Does anyone else think the narrator in this video sounds just like Mister Rogers?
Also, I think the music was also used for another skit on 'Sesame Street'. It was a live-action film about rain.
