  • 0 payload + minimun fuel onboard + strong headwind = 13 secs take off.

  • wtf?

  • Air show. Plane had low weight and good conditions i guess...

  • parameters to make it that short: low temp, near sea level field elevation ,headwind, low weight, full t/o thrust, and ofcourse the static t/o thrust he applied with brakes on, as shown by the nose oleo reaction....good practice

  • Wooooow!

  • it's a Boeing : )

  • 757s.....kickin ass since 1982.

  • Empty plane, no fuel, heavy winds.

    Or BIG engines.

  • insane

  • Must have had a significant headwind on the runway for that take off!

  • Fuck that was quick!!

  • Iceland, one of the most loved countries on the planet.

  • Miss Iceland air was like KTHXBYE :)

  • Uauuuuuuuuuuuu

  • truly an impressive flight machine! :o)

  • the fuel is RED BULL- it gives you wings

  • @GtaCd321 that'll be redundant tho.. Its a plane.

  • I lived in the white house just behind the winglet, so this is what I heard for many years. , But I love this ,take off , seem's so unreal , but probably empty, even though I have been told by it's pilot that they are very powerful.

  • OMG!!!!!!

  • It must have been completely empty - including fuel tanks! Skinny pilots, etc. Climb rate is amazing! What is it 20 degrees? 25?! Did he (she) land on the same runaway?! Because I would love to see that!!!!

  • Not only that I think there was heavy wind that helped built artificial airspeed. The camera clearly has wind hitting hte mic. If you look at the dirt from the back of the plane it seems to go away from the camera. When he takes off he tips his left wing up into the direction of the camera, where the wind would be from. There might be a slight headwind too. I think the main component of the wind is crosswind. Plane also may be little tail heavy at zcog. Plane front lifted easy...

  • @wkr4k4r Absolutely wind component - empty plane.

  • wow!

  • The takeoff was unbelievable....wow.

  • 15'' roll !! woww!!!

  • Amazing, and did you see Bjork waving from the window ?

  • Longest runway in Reykjavik: 1567m. This takeoff is definitely serious sh*t.

  • Ummmmmm....that was fucking incredible! I wonder how heavy it war

  • @MrGeneralKenobi *Was*

  • No wonder they chose this to ram into the buildings

  • That's it, big boys with toys!!! :D Those '57s are really beautiful. She's gotta be a joy to fly! :'D

  • HOLY FUCK! Was that plane like empty??

  • @FsxCaptainLukas yeah.. I'm pretty sure it was. Was for a show, so I think it was only crew on board, no passengers or cargo

  • 3 airbus

  • The 75’ is an exceptional performance machine. In the 90’s, I regularly rode United’s 75’s in and out of Monterey CA. While runway 28L at 7600’ was enough for the lightly loaded old girl, I still remember the excitement of the Carmel visual. An approach off the Pacific, through a canyon, toward a close in mountain range, tight 180, and immediately on the deck. Plenty of go arounds and “terrain pull up” warnings. But, I always felt safe knowing the capabilities of this aircraft and crew.

  • I'm an armchair aviation expert and thanks to my detailed investigation, I can conclude that this airplane is a Boeing 757.

    How good am I?

  • It starts at 20 seconds, and lifts off at 34!!! 14 seconds... incredible.

  • Rocket Start ...Only 757 !

Hail to 757 one of the Best Airplanes ever built !

  • Holy cow! is there a fighter pilot flying that thing?! thats awesome!

  • Icelandair WOOT

  • WHAT IS THAT? that is crazy!

  • Since it's doing fly bys, I assume there's no pax or bags/cargo. Really quick takeoff!

  • that looks like a lot of fun

  • on my sight its took about 750m - 800m runway only!!! maybe support by wind....

  • Cool video - love the 757 - my favorite Airliner...

  • Woah, it went up WAY before i expected.

  • Do a barrel roll ^_^ !!

  • Ooh god! Iceland was so nice, everybody speak so good English and the products so nice and clean! No hussle.

And the stewardes's of Icelandair are so wonderful.

I had a time of my life in Iceland.

Gosh, I love Iceland, and I love Icelandair.

    Cousin of a Icelander.

  • I didn't recognize this at first because I only thought there was one airport near Reykjavik --- Keflavik.. and its out in the middle of nowhere, not near any buildings. I flew in there last year. I guess there is two?

  • @tchgeek20 When you fly with Icelandair, you land at Keflavík / BIKF. This was shot at Reykjavík / BIRK which is the domestic airport and located in downtown Reykjavík

  • i bet that pilots wife had some kinky lingerie on and he couldnt wait to get home

  • Reasons why the 757 can do this...

    1) It's a 757

    2) It's LIGHTLY loaded (i.e. no pax and not a ton of fuel)

    3) And yes, if there is any wind, it IS into the wind

As for Renton, I'll check with my uncle; he test flew for Boeing for 30 years, but I doubt they ever took a 757 out of there; not that it couldn't, I just don't think they ever did.

  • @tonyb22 given that every single 757 was made AT Renton, I'm pretty sure they did

  • @clovis86 - Ahhh...I thought only the 737s were made at Renton. Thanks for catching this.

Something truly remarkable my Uncle told me. I asked him, "How quickly could you stop a 757 on landing?" His reply, "Lightly loaded with full autobrake....touchdown to full-stop about 5-7 seconds, but, everyone would be smashing their faces into the seatbacks in front of them."

  • That was 1350 Feet (not yards) of ground roll mesured via Goggle earth

  • @mcgeechan6600 ... lol my calculated TOD with a PA44 Seminole (MTOW 3800 lbs) is about 1400 feet :D ... maybe they just made it cause of water or methanol injection :D *just kidding*

  • Using headwinds is a generally accepted piloting practice. Unless you like running out of runway.

  • i take it that there were no passengers on board...? lol

  • I would love to see on of these T/O from Renton(where the 737 is built).

  • TOP!WOOOW!!!I love Icelandair!

  • WOW...how..and ehhhhh....AMAZING

  • took the crap out of those engines...

  • The pilots were using headwinds to help takeoff in a short distance

  • 757 is sick it can take of @ 1200 yars haha

  • The Boeing 757, the sexiest plane of all time

  • wow 13 seconds?!!

  • Now that is a "green" take off....

  • the reason why it took off so fast was that it had very little weight, instead of thousand of pounds, had maybe a max of 400 total :D excluding weight of fuel, oil, etc

  • Back when Iceland had money to blow on such stunts!

  • Always awesome to see what airliners can really do!

  • That is just INSANE.

  • afhverju var hún þarna o.O?

  • Ok the tiny Cessnas flying out and around this airport use just the same runway lenght for takeoff (approx)...What the cock! haha

  • thats the most in-efficient way to take off, but looks good

  • Charged takeoffs are the best. That's why SNA is amazing.

  • The B757 is overpowered, which means that in standard config, the pilots never use 100% of take off thrust.

  • the flaps also play important role on takeoff

    :)

  • 15 seconds from brakes off to wheels off - not bad :-)

  • that was short!

  • I have flown out of gatwick on one of these the acceleration pushed me back in the seat .Also ihave flown an A300 out of adelaide with 3 people on board it was not as fast

  • nice performance xD

  • wtf.. is that a complete empty plane?

  • @pavcon no, it's loaded. they just want their passengers to get a good bang for their buck.

  • wie geil :-O

  • air show nise min take off speed

  • Keflavik has much better capacity than Reykjavik, which is why most carriers prefer it.

  • I'm A Firi'n My Boeing 757!

  • @oakld

You're close.. What you described is a SOFT field takeoff, used when the runway is in, let's call it, less than optimal conditions. Both are very cool however, especially this video

  • The spectacular TO performance of the 757 is well known. But what most people don't know is that in normal operations, at less than max landing weight the 757 will typically have a slower approach speed and shorter landing rollout than 737's or 320's. Amazing airplane!

  • i had no idea a 757 could do that :o

  • Very nice, but I thought that Short Field Take by the book Off is when you rotate prematurally and then flatten the airplane with gear pulling up and pressing it against the ground (it wants to climb) to keep it in heigts smalller than wing span - the ground effect - until you reach the proper take off speed. I'm not the pilot, so I might be wrong... Am I? BTW I've seen only 1 video on YT with AIRLINER doing SFTO, and it was *impressive*.

  • Bloody hell. That's the fastest take-off I've ever seen! I would have shat my pants if I'd been on it.

  • holy shit was that deliberit

  • I have flown on a Iceland air 757 out of Keflavik. I did not think that Reykjavik handled 757s

  • i love 757 its the best!

  • Definitely one of the best looking 757's !!

    Excellent capture! 5/5

  • wow he hardly made it past the PAPI lights

  • thats sick!

  • 757 looks great in this pass!

  • chuja prawda

  • There must have been a strong headwind, as well as high air pressure.

  • Not necessarily, the RR engines, with an empty aircraft, and not much fuel is VERY schieveable in the very streamlined B757-200 or -300 :)

  • Jup, with this configuration it climbs like a rocket.

  • Wow this is short!!!!!^^

  • @FSXSuperboy Well all I have to say is I'm not suprised since the 757 was originally built at renton

  • this plane was empty and performing at an airshow, with the powerful RR engines and an empty plane this is more than possible. Every pilot could do this.

  • actually the pratts for the 757 produce more thrust.

  • no, the RR RB211-535C's, not B's produce more thrust

  • full flaps !

    I gauss !

and he might run the engine then lunch

  • prooves that icelandair pilots are the best

  • @birgir94 You know that the 757 was originally built at the Renton plant so it had to beable to do short takeoffs, so it wasn't really skill

  • i love 757's with winglets...

  • me too

  • wow....nicely done...how did he land the plane there afterwards??? Did he???!!!

  • Actually shortly after the cameras stopped rolling this 757 activated its over booster engines (hidden in the tail, of course) and busted through the atmosphere and continued sailing on up to the International Space Station. To this day that 757 remains docked up there. NASA refuses to comment.

  • LOL funny comment

Great video btw Iceland is beautiful I hope to visit it one day, and the 757 too quite a powerful machine :D

  • @GIRrocks24 - LOL good one.

  • wow nicely done!

  • One hell of a kick from those old RB211's

By holding on the brakes and putting the throttle fully forward must put a bit of stress on the old crate. My father used to do it with his Bentley turbo at the traffic lights if there was a Porsche alongside.

  • this type of B 757 has the RB211 engines which are way overpowered for this type of aircraft.

This is the best plane as it incorporates state of the art navigation but no fly-by-wire commands. A pilot's plane

( some passengers hate it as it is long and it is being used in some transatlantic markets)

  • Take a legend of an overpowered airliner. Avoid loading it up with unecessary things like passengers, a cabin crew, their luggage, water, food or beverage carts. Pump just enough fuel into the tank for the performance and you've got yourself an amazing short takeoff roll.

  • impressive yes...

how strong was the headwind i wonder...

well being iceland its only strong and stronger i guess;)...

  • Love the 757 sorry they are not in production. Would of love to have seen the proto type -100 series...to see the performance

  • how the hell can it take off in like 5 seconds.....plus reykjavik airport is only roughly 5000m/ft long..........

  • Just stick a rocket on it like they do cargo planes and you can get them airborne in about 5 seconds. Landing is the problem.

  • The Airbus A319 has a higher thrust to weight ratio meaning that it will theoretically be able to takeoff faster.

  • @egillalmar i can vouch for that :)

  • @egillalmar theoretically.. it also depends on how much lift it's wings are producing and how draggy the plane is.. so... there are so many factors there

  • @pavcon Basically the 757 is massively over powered, ive seen an empty DHL 757 do exactly the same!

  • @Sterlingjob I like comparing the 757 to a chevette with a v8 when it comes to power. She is definately one magnificent bird.

  • @biggare1980 If it has RB211's I think comparing it to an Aston Martin V12 would be more fitting, don't you?

  • @egillalmar nope incorect

  • @egillalmar nope thats because its smaller

  • @Aviationnation10 The bigger the plane the more lift it develops? So if it has higher thrust to weight ratio that should mean it will take off faster.

  • @slaneyboi yes bigger planes create more lift as they need more

  • @Aviationnation10 Exactly, so the A319 won't in theory take off quicker because it is smaller, it is because of the thrust to weight ratio, size has nothing to do with the matter.

  • @slaneyboi nope it does i know that from living near an airport with a short runway a319 has a shorter takeoff distance as its much smaler

  • @Aviationnation10 I know it has a shorter take-off distance for christ sake, i'm saying the reason is not because it is smaller.

  • @egillalmar yeah, of cours it will take off faster, its much smaller than the 757

  • @egillalmar well a A319 and a 757 are completely different planes.

  • @egillalmar not more then the 757-200..

  • @egillalmar Actually, it also depends on the aerodynamics of the plane. For example, the A380 can takeoff really quickly because of the size of the wings and amount of thrust.

  • wow that is a really short take-off distance! i don't think an Airbus can do that...could it?

  • It's obviously very light due to less fuel for an airshow.

757 is pound for pound the strongest commercial airliner in service and fully fueled can make a 70 degree climb.

  • you are very correct. Too bad they stopped manufacturing them

  • Right, tis a shame

  • oh thats some wicked shit

  • Hard head wind, empty aircraft, hold it hard on the brakes before rolling, impressive non the less.

  • Crazy bastards. They know how to rollercoaster those 57's Iceland Air do.

  • wow that was quick

  • wow......a STOL 757 XD

  • I love the Icelanders. They've got a good secret up there.

  • It's a hard wind, so the ground speed is lower and the airplane si capable to fly earlier.

  • vo nice

  • Impressive! Not extremely challenging takeoff but still good!

  • And yeah....rock it, Valdis!

    Thanks for sharing this!

  • Wow! I've actually flown in TF-FIO before. I remember the last time because I was nervous to hop aboard after reading the same plane was involved in a serious incident in Oslo.

  • RB211 535 two off please...

I saw a similar, perhaps even more impressive climb at Boeing field many years ago I was gobsmacked.

  • God Almighty that was the shortest takeoff run i have ever observed!!!

  • im going to try that with a 737 on fsx witch is the closest to the 757

  • Actually, their are closer aircraft, a 767 for instance.

  • Carlovingjosh-I think break release is at the 20-21 second mark. Unbelievable amount of power. The 757 is basically a longer, wider fighter jet!

  • that birds got some power!

  • the last clip is pretty cool. Its really doing narrow flying.

  • wow im flying them to stockholm and my least favorite part of flying is takeoff so I hope I take off that fast

  • Impressive.

  • i have an uncle that works for iceland air, he'll be flying the jet that will take me to iceland from boston in a week, i might be able to go to the cockpit too.

  • im 12 so i always get to go into the cockpit

    lol

  • Not bad

  • Takeoff in 12.61 seconds.

  • at the begining when it took off it jumped.

that was beacause they had the throttle up but were holding the brakes

    right?

  • Yeah

  • Can you pinpoint the second it jumped? I can't see that....

  • I was on a 7575 last year with thomas cook it didn't have wing lets.

  • When did they start putting winglets on 757s? It does make the '57 look sleeker. And that was a pretty sick takeoff. I thought A320s could do that. I guess it proves what BOEING can do. BTW is this what they do on foreign airlines when they get no bookings? Buzz the airport?

  • They are accesory, designed for saving fuel.

  • It was an airshow, the winglets increases the fuel efficiency of the plane, and you are underestimating Boeing.

  • I don't see how you got me "underestimating Boeing." Read it again, get a clue, and when you realize how wrong your comment is I'll accept your apology.
