Heres my take on it....

Having drivin a 69 Charger R/T (440/4sp) and owning a 77 LTD II (basically same thing as a 74 Gran torino) I can say this. Number one, this chick didnt drive either car to its potential. The Torino with its lower ride height, big fat stablizer bars, and more responsive steering/brakes woulda caught the General in the turns. But the little time the torino caught in the turns woulda been more then made up for when the big block got unleashed on the straights.

The car actually has a 511 crate motor that pumps out 725 hp. It also has an upgraded Hotchkis suspension, auxiliary transmission by Gear Vendor, Viper brakes, and a racing steering box.

'70s there were in a fuel crisies and even NASCAR was ordered to a shorter race or smaller tanks or something along those lines.The Charger was in the Days of Glory of the Muscle Car where as the Trino was not.Now I am not standup for the Torino especially since I am a Mopar Fan,but who ever thought the Torino would beat the Charger in anything,even looks was certainly on cheap drugs.

To be fair, they are comparing apples and oranges- and not even factory-stock versions. The Charger looks significantly modified, expecially where cornering is concerned- she's nice and flat. The Torino behaves as the TV car always did- horribly. They are also using a 351C Torino, not the show's 460-powered car. Can't say what the Charger is running, but no way it's a 440 car. Had they compared the true, original cars, the Charger would still have won, but both would have been much faster.*sigh*

the newest dukes of hazard movie the charger had a hemi not a 440. and the two models are in different muscle car eras. the 69 was one of the best years for the charger. the mid 70's were the last years for the muscle cars. im sure a ford torino taladega would compete with that year of charger a lot easier. the 74 charger and the 74 torino would be more fair also because that year of charger did not come with very big engine options.

Not even. A 440 would still do the trick, even a 383 ford really went for shit then, Im mopar all the way but if I had a torino like that I would toss out those american 351 cylinder heads and get aussie heads then watch the torino get going.
