beaucoup d'affinités avec ce titre moi avoir toujours eu!et encore moi aujourd'hui en avoir aprés toutes ces années! Et à partir de la 4e minute et 36 secondes! Wowww!!!Come on Lyle!
My 2 beautiful daughters (Rebecca and Cassidy) were born to this song one year ago to today at 4:24am and 4:25am...thanks Pat for the incredible and wonderful song that I will remember forever....
I saw the first Pat Metheny Group concert at a club in NYC called axis in Soho. . I met Pat methent last year in Morristown and he said they were nervous and almost did play San Lorenzo. They were incredible with Egan on Bass and Gotlieb on drums I was fortunate to see the full Cirvle tour also in Poerland Oregon. Full Circle is one of mt favorite compositions. These singers are great but the original singer from Argentina was the best.
a monster of a tune, a monster of a group ... and a monster keyboard player ... Lyle Mays. i always loved this tune, especially Lyle Mays' solo on the cd recording. it was nice to see him tickling the ivories on this video. BRAVO!!!
This tune, to me, is the ulitimate Pat Metheny. I can never get tired of listening to it. It is so amazing. Can you imagine yourself soaring through the blue skies? This is absolutely beautiful!!
This tune, to me, is the ulitimate Pat Metheny. I can never get tired of listening it. It is so amazing. Can you imagine yourself soaring through the blue skies? This is absolutely beautiful!!
The best song ever written, without a doubt. And performed masterfully by amazing musicians. Lyle Mays' piano is always hauntingly beautiful. I want to stand up and cheer!
@papercowmoo Metheny has said in interviews that he thinks of it as one measure comprising of 12/8 in 5 and 10/8, making one large grouping of 22/8. I've played a big band chart of this, and it was written in 22/8. In the Metheny songbook, the piece is written in 22/8. On wikipedia, it's described as a unique piece in 22/8. If thinking about it in larger beats with an occasional offbeat emphasis helps you, stick with that. But it really is in 22/8.
I think I found what the conflict is. Our music for this piece was written in 6/4 5/4 because it was a marching arrangement so it was given to us like that to make it clear for the drum major and make it easier to have sets written for us. so yeah for a big band chart 22/8 is probably what the original was in and it got changed to 6/4 5/4 for us so it has smaller sets for us to do direction changes and whatnot.
@papercowmoo ah. That makes sense. I do know other people who think of it that way, so it's not unreasonable. But to me, it just makes more sense to think of it in 22/8. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, as they say.
"But, on the other hand, you know, 'First Circle' does have a little different kind of time signature. We called it 22/8.... You could think of it as a bar of 12 and a bar of 10." - Lyle Mays
What can I say? Absolutely beautiful music. One if my all time favorite pieces. Can't get better than this! Love you Pat and Lyle. Amazing band. Vocals, solid!! :-))
The most epic piece of music ever written, hands down. For some reason i never cry when listening to music, but if i would, i would drown in my own tears because of the beauty of this piece.
I agree with JCG90. One of the most beautiful, exciting pieces of music I've ever heard. I'm a big Metheny fan and out of all his tunes, even the ones where he's BURNIN' , this is my favorite. The hair on my arms stands up from beginning to end.
@drumsfun haha thx for sharing that.. I struggle with complex time signatures.. I played this song for my dad, my dad having introduced me to Pat many moons ago, due to my exploration of my Pop's records and cassette tapes... my Dad figured the time signature out lol.. he having a solid understanding of music from his youth.. great, great stuff: First Circle.. I named one of my fantasy football sqauds,"First Circle" last year, and it took 1st of 12 teams!! Viva Pat Metheny Group!
Now that's some good live music. I know there are a lot of good artist but this is just amazing. The grammy awards show could use more of this and less of what they normally show. This is serious music. Seriously good.
Saw them at Meadowbrokk Music Festival when the CD came out. One the best things I've ever seen in my life. Metheny and Mays are a brilliant combination

@metalcorefanzine Please don't worry if the girls seem to hate Metheny's music when they're teenagers. ;)
I heard nothing but classical music in utero and all my life until I left home at 18, and despised it.
Only when I was 21 did it begin to feature in a positive light!

JanCarlo88 3 years ago
Èach clap falls in between a pattern on a 11/8 tempo (listen to the guitar notes at the very beginning).
The pattern is: I I I I I I I I I (1 2 3 1 2)
The claps are all in between the guitar notes.
Fill the spaces with one clap in the short pauses and two claps in the long ones. The result will be:
CC C CC C C CC CC C C
Try it: it's easier than it sounds :-)

While Pat Metheny's music is always alive when I play it, seeing him performing makes it come top life in another very special way! What an awesome, accessible composer and performer!
