I've heard she gave an outstanding performance. However her speech was outrageous. When she said " it can be about the performance and not the politics" She went totally out of line. She did not only offended her fellow nominees but past winners as well. She just said that all the actors that have won the same award in the past only won because of politics. I just believe that was very wrong from her part her manager should advise her on what so say and what not to say when accepting an award.

Right - she won for her depiction of a vicious ghetto bitch which did the image of black women no favors. Neither did Halle Berry's Oscar winning role or Hattie McDaniels. I must admit, as a proud Black woman I found the movie Precious to be very disturbing. I guess Mo'nique's performance was as good as or better than anybody else's. She is as deserving of the award as anyone else who was nominated. The movie still has the feel of another hit on the Black community and family.

Monique did deserve her Oscar and it makes perfect sense. Anna Kendrick and Vera Farminga split the vote for Up in the Air so they couldn't win. Maggie Gyllenhaal sucks and wasn't going to win and her performance though good wasn't something special. Penelope Cruz won last year for Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

The Best Supporting is typically a new-comer winning category. Meryl Streep and Denzel Washington both won their first Oscars for Best Supporting. At least Monique just beat working professionals fair and square. Sandra Bullock beat Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep. They are acting legends. I find that insulting.
