Looked like there were being super tough on Furukawa sensei, who seemed to have hit a few times that I thought could have been ippon. But not even a twitch of the flags....
He was protecting his Men with his hand so he could not get hit by Furukawa with a Men strike, which is the most common strike against an disarmed aitei.
Oh wow... Domo Arigato Gozeimashita!^^ 1 Year ago I began with Kendo, but we only learn the Katas and don't practice with Bogu. So I didn't know that you can strike a disarmed kendoka...hm thats not respectable in my opinion^^
It has not much to do with respect, it is common. The Match you see in the Video is a Shiai between 2 Hachidan, if they are doing something you can be rest assured that it is okay to be done in Shiai.
You could argue about doing this in Ji-Geiko but it is normal in Shiai to get hit when loosing the Shinai.
Sucessfully disarm an older Sensei during a Mohan-Geiko and look at the way the people who observed you are looking at you ;)
Doin it one time in Ji-Geiko, no thing. Doing it 2 times in the same Ji-Geiko -if the guy you disarms is very polite he will think "Oh yes i should grip my Shinai better" if he´s not polite, he wil think:"What an asshole.." Doing it more then 3 times in one and the same Ji-Geiko may make people questioning if you have an intense to destroy the others shinai.
So, why do you assume I do it with an older sensei and in a Mohan-Geiko???
I've made 3 times during a ji-geiko with a kohai, but was to show him that something was wrong with his posture at ji-geiko, and with his grip :) It wasn't even harder. I do sometimes with my sempais, and I have made a few ones with 2 senseis. By "a lot", I didn't mean all the time, and certainly not with everyone. But I do not miss the chance to do it if it shows up! At ji-geiko and shiai, just to be clear!
Unfortunly you did not get the point of my comment ;) . What i wrote in the first passage was no assuming what you did in the past, do now or what you are going to do. It was just a hypothetical theory packed in a metaphor wanting to say: "What would be if..?" :)
ya it has nothing to do with respect lol. your allowed to hit them also theres the times when people fall down your given like a second to hit them as well. most people dont try too though

I don't normally question shinpan's call...but this match...something's not right.

yasu7593haru 2 years ago

Argue about doing it in Ji-Geiko?
Why??? I do a lot of maki-waza at Ji-Geiko, almost followed by hiki men... why that would be a problem?
