  • Ohhhhh!!!!!!!

  • That move 3:33 is perfectly carried out.

  • i need to go back in time..... dman man !

  • 0:15 ... tat guy looks irritating with the dance..

  • they wrere too fast for these hippies,at least 15 years ahed of their time. fuckin brilliant band

  • kick out the jams, mofos

  • Ford and Chevy and keep it heavy!!!!!!!!

  • Detroit - the bored and stroked v-8 powerhouse of rock and roll for so damn long

  • When my grandchildren ask "grandpa, what's this?" I'll need to explain to them that there once was a time when rock music didn't mean quirky cute songs devoted to the singer's pet fish and played with a ukelele... no grandchild. There was a time when it meant you didn't leave the stage without tearing it to shreds first. But that was long long ago, and we'll probably never see the likes of it again.

  • to latreuw auto to tragoudiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why the fuck is no one raging? WTF!?!? I'd be flying off peoples shoulders! Must've been real mellow L goin around that day ;)

  • I heard that Lemmy said " Back in the USA" would be a record he'd want on a desert island. Me too.

  • No fucking around-------The 5 were the shit--------the (mostly) brainless youth of today have no clue as to what REAL music is all about. Packaged, profit margin bullshit is not where it's at!

  • @JDroid i'm 15 man and thought you might like to know I fuckin' believe in what you said man. i can't take all this corporate bs anymore. haha, that's why i'm in a grunge band.

  • @JDroid Well, I am apart of this youth (almost 12) and I agree with you.

  • Fuckin' great!

  • Had to watch it several times. 1970, these guys were seriously fuckin rockin that shit. I don't know what else to say. gotta watch it again...

  • True Shock and Awe

  • Oh fuck yes.

  • The crowd is so far behind the concept of this music, stunned is probably the apt description. No band stuns anymore, maybe we have played all the chords there are since its mostly sissy pop, mass corp sell to the masses garbage. Not to say there isnt some decent stuff out there, its just that the airwaves are SO jammed with shit you caint find your way home

  • @tacey505 Well said.

  • Re: the crowd...this was also at a time when people were there to appreciate the music, to internalize it, and to be in their own headspace, not like today, where people are more concerned with acting up, acting out, and acting like an asshole in public. Despite their amazing energy, MC5 were also a very "cerebral" band...I'm sure a lot of those folks were on strange little trips to inner space. "Black to Comm" must have simply blown minds, lol.

  • Two great chords, five great guys. that's meant as a compliment on both counts

  • If I only had a time-machine.....

  • Having been there many times, I can tell you that sheer volume probably stunned some of the crowd into immobility.

  • All right, I'll agree with that. They were pioneers for sure, people didn't quite know how to interpret that kind of energy. It takes a little while to knock the squareness loose!

  • About the crowd -

First - the 5 were unlike anything most had ever seen before. The first time I saw them I pretty much stood there in a trance.

Secondly - I'm guessing more than a few in the crowd were stoned.

  • Wow, what a rowdy crowd!

  • @CWake1 I don't think they new what just hit them....stunned into shock :))

  • best acctitud in rock n roll, and do not understand why these people are not excited

  • I'm addicted to this video

  • Wayne Kramer is bustin' some serious moves here whilst simultaneously cracking out the guitar - respect..

  • Oh, GOD!, what a pity we can't see bands like these anymore!.

  • i love how this song start

  • lol, the crowd is just standing there

  • They put their heart and soul into that performance. Simply amazing!!!

  • I'm driving that white car across the bridge at 4:03 on a suspended driver's license. FTW!!!

  • said it before think it everytime I play this vid, the audience must be deaf! how can they stand still, I am jumping around my house and do everytime...Go MC5...can someband today please produce anything close to this, I doubt it, sorry guys, had some hope for Kings of Leon but they have sold out also, that's my opinion..come on someone out there prove me wrong!! Less emo and more rock!

  • Not only are they MC5 awesome but who ever was on the cameras and the editing was equaly incredible. This video is 1970 and black and white. Ican't see it enough!

  • how the hell could you 'dislike' this?! it boggles the mind.

  • MC5 ROCK!It so good

  • Is there a DVD of this show? I mean the entire show including the other songs that were posted

  • I love Les MC5 !! Du rock à l'état pur !!!

  • why do today skinnyjeans make bodies look like crap?

  • Nice mental groove. Def some bro fro envy tho!

  • 3:32...as good as it gets in this world.

  • What you have here is what sets the greats apart....showmanship and a flat out fucked performance....puts the White Stripes into perspective!

  • @TheGrandmasterMan fuck the white stripes and their packaged rebel fasad

  • rob tyner...joe cocker... they should have switched bands for a night and really done a shocker...you don't dance to this you gaze in amazement and dance to the car afterwards

  • rob tyner was energy personified

  • amarzing performance! great year for rock!

  • fxxxx great

  • words fail me

  • Only two stupid chords and still a great time of rock n roll. Awesome.

  • i can't stop watching this video. been like the 15th times since last night.

  • @grizz22604 i'm very happy watching this video.i'm 56and had a stroke recently and am in poor shape but making a comeback! this was my heyday in high school 68-72.makes me happy to relive my youth here on youtube and the comments from young people makes me feel so great i cry tears of joy though.

  • @AntipodeanAl I was joking of course. Yes there was plenty of dancing going on before the 60s and in the early 60s too. But white folks did seem to loose there mojo for a bit in the late 60s. I've seen so many classic gigs like this from that era where people are just sitting there not moving. And no I'm not black.

  • @AntipodeanAl It was the 60s, white folk hadn't learned how to dance yet. They where used to sitting cross legged watching some dude with an acoustic guitar. They probably didn't know what to make of this.

  • "...Looked hard into the dancing crowd, felt like screaming out loud, I saw you standing in there, I saw your long, saw your long hair.." mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yeeeeeeeeahhhhhhhh!! :D <3

  • I love the MC5!

    And the Stooges!!

  • why isn't this band in the r&r hall of fame? whoever posted everyone else followed got it spot on. great posting of a slamming song. wayne kramer and fred sonic smith - best two guitar assault ever!

  • the move at 3:33 is the MOTHER of guitarist's dips in Rock History, you could not do this COOLER than what you witness here! The Motor City 5, everyone else, followed.

  • mc5 é orgasmo infinito!!!!

  • I'm doomed, had to replay it again and again.... soooo cooool!!

  • You young guys out there this how you ROCK!!!

  • what a lame crowd

  • the sound of Fred Sonics Ricky with the humbuckers belting it out after the break down and Wayne's Dan Armstrong... best 2 chord song. what a rush still after all these years.

  • love them!

  • I'm 22 and mc5 still holds it down better than 98% of the crap we're force fed through the media

  • Tas de poilus !!

  • wayne kramer you are amazing!

  • i'm curious what young people think of this music.i'm 56 and this was my heyday 1968-1972 high school

  • @steve89z i'm 20 and this is amongs a lot of my favorite bands

  • @steve89z

    I'm in my early 30s' .

Heard about them for a few years (White Stripes were influenced by them) and just kinda started checking em out.

They seem similar to Grand Funk Railroad. Ahead of their times. Has a punk rock and soulful combination. Simply amazing band.

  • @jkbezo check out the bellrays.they are mc5 clones modern day

  • @steve89z

    Wow!

    They were pretty good.

  • MOTOR CITY FIVE

  • Wow.

  • 1:19-1:26 simply fucking awesome...

  • @georgeneuman Hehe...I love to see this. It never gets old. ♥ Very fuckin awesome indeed. ........makes me wish I was 15 again.......just to hear them for the first time again. Gawd that was stunning. Somethin I can tell the Grand-kids.....if Im ever blessed with any.

  • @georgeneuman haaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaha

  • @georgeneuman And that little move that Wayne Kramer does at 3:33 is pretty damned cool, too.

  • welcome to 1970 motherfucker

  • HI!

ON WHICH DVD ARE THE RECORDINGS AVAILABLE?

    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

    DIRK

  • Detroit was FUN

  • damn thats good iam eating a reeses at the same time and i dont know wich ones better

  • Twelve people stood up on the stand with their eyes shut tight...and missed the like button.

  • sweet air guitar at 1:54

  • The crowd looks exactly like The Mothership just landed in the backyard...two or three people get it

  • @bronxeel1 Does anyone in the crowd have a pulse?

  • Twelve people DIDN'T like this clip?!?

  • STAND BACK! Someone might GET HURT!

    Rock & roll is good.

  • DANCE MOTHERFUCKER DANCE FFS

  • Hail Kramer!

    Hail MC5!

  • Ho ly Crap.

  • When this performance was filmed, this was the greatest rock band in the world!

  • i was at this show, it was free and featured savage grace, alice cooper, the 5 and commander cody and the lost planet airmen. the comments on this are funny so let me tell you, we were sick of having bob seeger play at our high school dances - someone said that "if you look at the old movies, no one new how to take this" well i just want to say, if you see them sittin' it was because they was trippin' this was just regular neighborhood stuff

    Kid Rock sucks.

  • Crowd of zombies. They really didn't know what to do though.

  • Have seen hundreds of bands live over the past 40+ years NONE of them have ever came CLOSE to the energy and excitement generated by the MC5.

  • this makes my fuckin heart race

  • Brother Wayne Kramer!

Anyway, Kramer & Sonic were arguably one of the best guitar-partners in rock history. Their styles complemented each other in such a ... sweet...not-so-sophisticated..powerful...trippy.. way ...man

  • yeeeeeeaaaahh!

  • wayne kramer is my fucking hero!

  • Their like a punk band with afros!

  • The black guy on 1: 20 is thinkin: My 'fro is bigger then yours!

  • @gianca60 LOL!!! Awwwwwww but ya gottta love the '5' !

  • Wayne Kramer's the blonde one? Anyway, that's the best look in Rock. All you need, really.

  • Kickin' out da jams, muthafuckas!

  • Young people do know this music. If they don't, then they don't desrve to

  • @MagicDolphinGO That's right it's only two chords and it still rocks harder than anything you and your dumb little buddies "rock out" to! I guarantee whatever shit bands you listen to were influenced by the MC5, look it up! You can't be a rock n roll fan and not respect the Stooges and the MC5, that's common knowledge. I swear this country is going to shit lol, just turn on the radio!

  • The White Stripes covered this on the John Peel show around 2001... Really appreciate the nod from one Detroit band to another.

  • Very innovative for that time. Can't believe it's 40 year old music.

  • Oh no, this is so funny, I understood the line "Looking at you looking at your babe..." So he's gay and jealous.

  • this for You Al!!! happy Sunday.

  • I have one word for this band... Conditioner!!!

  • just in case you weren't listening, this is badass

  • This is one of those performances that makes ya wonder why the fuck I'd wanna listening to any band besides The MC5, forever.

  • THE MC5 MOTHER FUCKER!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ja ja como dicen mis amigos del fructas!!!

  • Watch Wayne at 3:33, not only is he a great rocker, but also an athlete!

  • @freezerkid1 And he never misses a note. Cool move for sure!!

  • Comment removed

  • YEEAHHHHH

  • very raw

  • amen brother

  • pierrelivernois, eat shit and die motherfucker!

  • This is the most ROCK N ROLL thing that I have ever seen

  • Holly shit, these guys were good! Why have I never heard of them?

  • @johntw1000 because your head is full of shit.

  • fuck yeah!

  • The James Brown of guitarists at 3:30.

  • See that Kids? Yeah!!!!

  • holy shit goddamn, now THAT is rock n roll!

  • Along with the Stooges, MC5 demonstrate why punk wasn't really required all that much.

  • I remember I saw these guys play in a stubbly hay field out in the country near Ypsilanti. I think it was 1969. It was a benefit concert to get legal defense funds for John Sinclair. The band was great, as usual, but the location was miserable. Wayne Kramer was more manic than usual that day, and I saw him make a move that was almost identical to the move that Michael Jackson, years later, named the Moon Walk. Very original, short eyes.

Anyway, it was a great time to be a delinquent in Detroit.

  • @moojeed Oh Man, really? Oh Man. That's fucking Awesome, OMG you are so Lucky. I would Murder somebody to have done that! I was Born in 1967 :(

I interviewed Wayne in the early '90's for a local FM Radio Station & I was so nervous I could hardly talk, He's one of my great Rock'n'Roll Idols.

  • THATS MUSIC!

  • high energy!

  • The crowd don`t know whats hitting them. MC5 was the ultimate rock band. Love the stuff. Keep on doing it. Love from Sweden.

  • i'm a teenage and the first time i hear this song, i start to love this band, is foking awesome !!!!!

  • Look at all these punk ass hippies in the crowd. . .They dont even know what they're seeing

  • @CanucksSuck It was 1970, OF COURSE there were hippies, you fucking tool.. Pre punk.

  • ha, yeah. these morons need to realize that their bullshit ideas of "punk" all stem from political hippies. and still is. hippies own you!. eat the weeds from the sidewalk fucks.

  • Sick check out the Wayne move from 3:30- 3:40 with the '69 Ampeg Dan Armstrong

  • Why isn't the crowd going nuts? A mosh pit at the front should have erupted, how are they basically standing there all cool like? Too stoned?

  • when black sabbath came to us it changed every thing with the crowd...when ozzy shout out..... get up and shake ure ass fuckers

  • L.B.H.

    FANTASTIC STUFF

  • RAR!

  • This is not a band...this is a force of nature. God Damn this is so good.

  • Kind of see what they were not the huge success they could of been, like to the next level. They were too way radical for the masses, unlike Grand Funk RR who appealed to a lot more people.

Never the less MC5 rocked out like nobody's business.

  • su-weet

  • el cantante me hace acordar al cantante de The mars Volta

  • The move that Wayne Kramer makes at 3:33 is unsurpassed by anybody.

  • @freezerkid1 - yep! then spraying the crowd at 3:45- this vid should be mandatory viewing for upstart musicians, see now, this is how its done, this is rock n roll, this is THE MC5.

  • @freezerkid1 Wish I could give this comment a 1000 thumbs up.

  • @freezerkid1 How the hell did he do that?!?!?

  • @freezerkid1 Sorry, but you're wrong it's surpassed by Wayne Kramer doing "Ramblin' Rose" a few minutes before at the same show.

  • @freezerkid1 That WAS a sweet rock and roll move! Classic !

  • @freezerkid1 Oh my. Unfreakin believable. So nice, top to bottom.

  • there are 2 brothers in the crowd dancin' and groovin' but the white kids are dead! what the hell wake the f up!

  • wayne kramer you are 1 cool mofo of an entertainer.this performance is killer! the band members are top shelf!

  • Brill

  • The drummer's on fire......and the crowd are dead. They should have played this gig in England !!

  • Merci pour cette video légendaire !

  • They're okay, i guess

  • i had a tune stuck in my head for like a year and thought it was so simplistic and genius at the same time. But low and behold it's looking at you by the mc5 dam these guys are awesome.

  • WTF is grong with crowd!? I will be moving and dancing like crazy!

  • FUCKING AMAZING

  • Why do people just stand there?

  • @mgmads ya don't have to be a dancing fool to enjoy the music, besides if you were on acid or anything else you were immersed into the music .you didn't have to put on a public display to enjoy the moment.

  • @mgmads Shock has rooted them to the spot
