Sadly WKRC 12 lost a legendary sports reporter when Walt Maher died early today at age 81. He started at WKRC 12 in 1978 after several years as a sports reporter at WCPO 9.
I remember Nick Clooney popping up on WTVN-TV a few times when the governor was giving his "State of the State" speech at the statehouse. Once I remember him anchoring together with Earl Green, WTVN-TV's anchor.
I was the guy who produced this news open. In fact I was IN the helicopter that shot it. The music, to address one question, was done by a large company that specialized in this for stations around the country. 615 Music perhaps? Frank Gari Productiions? It's just been too long for me to remember. It was a great place to work.
Tuesday Productions, maybe?...And is there any chance of uploading the video montage taken throughout the day when this was shot? I realize the city has changed in the 23(!) years since this was first shot, but it's still some of the best video of the Cincinnati skyline I've ever seen.
Tell me this WKRC and WCPO been battling for #1. On wikipedia it states Nick Clooney (George Clooney's dad) lead WKRCs ratings, but when he return he couldn't lead them due to Jerry Springer at WLWT. My question is did WLWT beat WCPO and WKRC in the late80s? WLWT always been dead last... Who was in last place in the during Jerry Springer run? WCPO or WKRC?
WKRC was in the ratings basement in the late 80's on almost all of their newscasts. WLWT won the 11 PM news with WCPO in second. WCPO was first in the early evening, WLWT was second. This all changed when Springer left. WKRC was just starting to build their news team with Rob Braun and Kit Andrews.
Didn't Eric Warren get in a lot of trouble for arson or some type of insurance fraud. It happened a few years after this had aired and he was doing weather at Channel 9.
Eric Warren lost two houses in fires...one happened during his stint at Channel 12, and you're right--the other came a few years later when he was on weekends for Channel 9. He did serve jail time, I think for fraud.
Whatever happened to Eric Warren? The last thing I can find doing a Google search is from 1997. I imagine he is out of jail now.

I was still confused by that affiliation change until I started watching LOST live last year.

Yes, Nick is George's dad. Both great people.

No, the raw footage has long since been lost to time. If it's anywhere, it's on BetaSP at the station stored in the back room.

Tom DiNoto of Tuesday told me this was indeed done by Tuesday.
