tell my why today we don't go in space ?

Can you imagine Chirstophe Colomb today ?With the technologie we must go in space and start to explore (sorry for my poor en glish ) New discovery about connexion exist ,but like every system with human some of them stop the evolution by personnal buissnes plan , we need evolution for deep ocean and deep space , i think few peolple can imagine the world today 3 centrury ago , and in the futur 100 years ? Thank you
