I am a big Kinks fan. The Preservation records were an amazing story with some great songs (especially this duo with the workers complaining and Mr. Black stepping forward to offer the solution which everyone will be sorry they went for. Very astute picture of politics. Unfortunately, the records didn't completely work as great records. I still enjoy them immensely and marvel when I listen to the lyrics and story.
@DarylZero13 I bought this in 73 and loved it....radio stations never played any of the songs that I know of...ACT one and two, I like two better....Im 61 now and still love my kinks....ray says he next cd with new songs (next yr 2011) will be about politics. His new cd comes out nov 1st called SEE MY FRIENDS...he does duets with many artists of old kink klassics...including Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen
i always end up using the word "brilliant" when commenting on any Kinks piece. they are beyond perfection, they are beyond delightful, they are beyond talented...i can't even begin to describe them. that's why i just say BRILLIANT. you nailed it.
There in the distance is Mr. Black. Can he be the man whom we have been searching for so desperately?

Everybody should be listening to this !
Ray and Dave had it all figured out decades ago. Preservation explains what has happened to the world economy. No PhD in economics required.

Love Dave's rhythm guitar in this one.

How are The Kinks even possible? There should be physical laws that prevent music/lyrics from being this brilliant. And yet...somehow, here it is.

First 30 seconds are in a class of their own. Exquisite piece of songwriting.

How you like to hear this song as the Kinks performed it live in NYC in 1974? It should be coming to youtube shortly.
