One of my fave Madness songs. It's about an old coloured gent who is homeless and lives in a station waiting room. Because I'm old (35) I've only got this on cassette - it's one of their best albums - yet I can't find a link to download it.
keep moving was a very under rated album. this song, victoria gardens, samantha, give me the reason, one better day, the blinding title track and the massive michael caine. madness were maturing on this album but fading out commercialy, a shame.
I always listen to this before bed nowadays...I usually look around for Madness songs I've never heard of to listen to and see if I like 'em, I'm so glad I clicked this!
this song reminds me of my friend more than michael caine does. it nearly makes me cry when i think of him. he left to australia a few months ago and this song is so upsetting for me ;(
That song transcends a lot sad feelings, the story of one who has been transferred to Britain away for his family for work reasons and seeing no promise or interest in it at all.
Reminds me of the exact same thing that happened to my uncle and his family (but he went to Luxembourg not England).
A Masterpiece

May I recommend the book 'A Concise Guide To Eighties' Music' by Karl Vorderman. The author is a big fan of this track.

Keep Moving was probably Madness' most down to earth album. Pity though, they were not given the chance to develop such themes even further.
