  • Alien communication right there.

  • I have viewed many barn owl nest boxes and this is what a Male does when it is ready to start the bonding process with a female. It is also a way of attracting a female while bringing the food to the box to entice the female to be its mate.

  • RRRRWWAAAAAAA *cough*

  • LEAVE HIM ALONEEEEEE ...POOR THING

  • We can dance if we want to....because if your friends can't dance and if they can dance than they're no friends of mine...~!

  • @hexpinteas lol

  • @lsoph9 Thanks ^^

  • That Would Scare The Shit Out Of Me In The Middle Of The Night

  • I'd screech too if i had a bright light shining in my eyes

  • @cloudynot2cold no light, infrared and the owls can't see it...think of a night cam.

  • @lsoph9 now you know what you are hearing at night if you do have Barn Owls near by. Very distinct sound eh?

  • I wonder if something paranormal was messing with it and scaring it . . .

  • possesd lol

  • lol the owl is just scared as fuck, then at the end he's like what the fuck is going on?

  • heh if this owl was my pet would of named it pixar.

  • this is their way of spittin game

  • @captiancooly Oh, that was the just the demons of the kestrels that the owl was exorcising. ;)

  • Chuck a hardstyle song in there. Haha

  • right at 1:55 when it stares at u its kinda creepy..

  • Look at his foot it's a bracket is he lost???

  • i have to admit i've never trusted owls, they are just too creepy. And i find it freaking weird how it just shuts up completely and goes all silent. Then 30 seconds later looks directly at the camera (a bird would have no idea what that was and wouldnt just look for no reason), then you see something move towards the camera. It isn't a light as it isn't on the wall of the box, it's in the air. It isnt dust as there is no light for it to reflect off. Paranormal? maybe. Eurghh owls. creepy.

  • @M4tTyEa4LiFe lol

  • @lsoph9 but at the same time, i think they are very beautiful birds :) i think it was when i saw the film 'the fourth kind'. i have just never trusted them afterwards :P

  • @M4tTyEa4LiFe there is infrared light being used for this camera to see at night. it is very possible for infrared light to reflect off of floating dust.

  • @M4tTyEa4LiFe ooh... you have a point there, dude.... weird.

  • @M4tTyEa4LiFe Hmm, are you talking about the left side of the video at 1:54 where he turns his head and then something moves down ? and yes this owl is very creepy o-o

  • @M4tTyEa4LiFe

Its not looking directly at the camera. Owls can't roll their eyes, they can only turn their heads. So wherever its face is aimed at, that's where it's looking. Not once is it fully facing the camera.

And of course there's light. If there's no light how can you see any of it? It's infrared. So it's probably dust anyway.

  • @PrivateSchemers1 it looks directly at the camera at 1:56 .....

  • @M4tTyEa4LiFe lol

you can see the light reflecting in the owls eyes. It was just dust. and cameras make sounds that an owl can hear. ^^

  • @M4tTyEa4LiFe lol

you can see the light reflecting in the owls eyes. It was just dust. and cameras make sounds that an owl can hear. ^^

  • @captaincooly damn thats fucking creepy ITS AN ORB!!!! RUN 4 YOUR FUCKING LIVES!!!!! :O

  • 1:55 ABSOLUTELY PARANORMAL!!! Thumbs up if you think so!

I'm a Paranormal Investigator, These are orbs!

  • Nice DEMON you got there in your shed, son

  • This just caused my dog to wake up and run outside barking furiously!

  • @hebneh that's too funny

  • Is it just me or did anyone else think it looked / sounded like he was pretending to be his own Tardis?

  • its stomping and screaming because its looking for its babies.it cant find them.get a clue people!!!

  • This is me at 3 in the morning when I see a cockroach in the bathroom and I'm too lazy to turn on the light.

IT'S GOTTA BE IN HERE SOMEWHERE.

  • OWLS LIKE, WERES MY FUCKING CAR KEYS!!!

  • This video could so be edited so that when he's been looking up for a while, a picture of Linda Blair pops up. I would probably pee. I was definitely half expecting it.

  • @realityisforever i was thinking the same thing when i was watching it and it got real silent XD

  • Thanks for uploading this. Seriously, just 15minutes ago at my house, an Owl flew into my big picture windows in my master bedroom (thankfully they didn't break). It was making sort of similar sounds as in your vid. It didn't get the joke initially that it was hitting glass and kept hitting it. It's dark where I live right now and I'm just here watching tv. For just a split second, I thought aliens must exist and be trying to break in my house because I've never heard anything so terrifying.

  • @captiancooly probably lights from the road near the box...maybe a car.

  • 1:56 omg.

  • This sounds almost paranormal. o-o;

  • Happy Feet!

  • @TheMiniGameShow yeah that is a good name for this video...I like it!

  • @jewelcat9 don't buy what? it is a nest box in the end of a barn. No cage.

  • @lsoph9 lmfao and this is the result of not reading someones message to the video XDDD

  • @jewelcat9 In other words: the bird is free to come and go as it wants..... Relax snippy

  • @gwagner30 Your the snippy one pal., not me

  • Poor owl looks lonely in that cramped little box. I don't like the way he's kept. Put him in a better bigger cage with another owl if you can!!!

  • @jewelcat9 this is known to be a Kestrel Box and the birds/raptors are free to come and go as they please...this box is larger than it appears but it is not a cage and this is not a pet

  • @lsoph9 I don't buy it. The cage looks awful. The poor owl looks like it's taking a nervous breakdown. Please put him in a better cage!!!

  • @jewelcat9 I don't buy it. Cage looks awful, owl looks like it's taking a nervous breakdown. Put him in a better location please!

  • @jewelcat9 think you missed the point. its not a cage its basically a big bird house. they can leave and never come back if they wanted

  • @jewelcat9 Even if this was a caged bird, the person who uploaded this video clearly states that this is a STREAMING VIDEO that they WATCH, so they have no contact with the bird. If you aren't going to believe what this person is saying, that this bird decided to visit a kestrel's home, then go complain to the people that tape this. It can go to a "better location" when it pleases, because this is obviously not a "cage", let alone its own home.

  • @ClarinetFace Oh calm down. Take a pill. The rude remark is not necessary. Maybe they ought to put YOU in the cage

  • Comment removed

  • @jewelcat9 I though it was female.

  • It is in a trance when she cries?

  • @rgdadder nope very much aware

  • how would the stomp help though? Screeching is annoying...but the stomping is pretty wimpy lol

  • I don't know which is more terrifying: when it's stomping and screaming or when it suddenly goes still and silent at 1:26

  • @Intrafacial86 the silence was most likely due to the intruder going away....silence means less stress for the Barn Owl

  • 0:11 lol, happy feet :)

  • OMFG!!! I heard something similar to this right outside my back window last night, although I can't really be sure because I awakened to it. It was almost like a night terror, and it sounded more human-like, more like a woman screaming in sheer ear piercing terror. I hope it was a fuckin owl, but I can't really be positive because I heard half of this 10-15 sec "scream" while I was coming out of a dream state, and the last 5 sec of whatever it was, was while concious. Scared the shit out of me.

  • @ademafreak81 Barn owls do sound human sometimes and can be really loud...perhaps that is what you heard!

  • 1:56... IT'S LOOKING INTO MY SOUL

  • That's one talented owl...I wish I could sing and dance at the same time

  • I wonder if she kepted the home, lol.? =)

  • @ToffeeChips19 no she did't she was just passing through...

  • animal sumerio

  • ......wtf?

  • why he cry? ='(

  • i heard one last night for the first time and i was like ohmygod theres like a weirdo right outside my house...i was so terrified :(

  • haha WHEREZ MY SAMMICH!!!!!!!!

  • At 1:57 I was like "WHAT THE FUCK!" stay away owl!

  • Looks more like line dancing. Step 1,2,3....

  • D: drag the slider along the progress bar and it looks like the owl's floating across the floor!

  • cha cha cha!

  • 1:28 oh shit he saw the camera

  • Can you tell me what kind of camera you use? I have built a screech owl box and would like to get similar footage. this is great!!

  • @fbullington no camera just recording software. Not my nest box just a live cam I watch online.

  • Do you think maybe she was scared of something and trying to scare whatever it was off? That didn't really sound like a mating type call to me

  • @XxMissxCometxX probably the resident Kestrel or something was outside....an intruder of some sort....and this owl wanted them to know they were not happy

  • @lsoph9 That would make sense. "Stay away!"

  • aw! poor thing! your not going to keep it in that terribly small box are you?

  • @SuperSandySue it's not my box

  • @lsoph9

yes, i know that. I'm thinking out loud.

  • The poor thing. :(

  • let the owl free.

  • @v4mp1r3pr1nc3ss The owls in nest boxes are free to come and go as they please :D

  • @XxMissxCometxX thank you!

  • From this YT vid 0pq8Zkk0vdE one would say it's the male doing this "ritual".

Thanks for posting Isoph, I very well rembered this scene, but couldnot find it!

  • Good for Halloween to scare children's away. LoL or Robber alarm.

  • Sleep walking and snoring, LoL

  • bloody heck, i'm off!

  • this made me sad...seems scared...

  • Poor bird, i think she is more afraid they those who hears this sound. it seems she is nervous and dont like the situation, look at her feet!

  • Aw, it's adorable! I love owls ^-^

  • This would be a great sound for a video game like Silent Hill. It just sounds so wrong

  • Great idea!!! I think they may have done it in Silent Hill 4. I think 4 is pretty underrated lol. I enjoyed it very much.

  • i used to live in this one house and there was a barn owl that strangely lived in the woods in my back yard and i heard this for weeks n it freaked the shit outta me untill one morning before the sun was entirely up i saw this guy n the sound was coming from him lol

  • Holy crap!!! It would certainly keep me away!

  • interesting..

animals seem to fear this ritual, as they should! :D

  • it is a good warning scream to stay away!

  • @lsoph9 no wonder they use this owl in videos about that new movie the fourth kind i mean its a pretty darn scarry alien looking owl nothing to do with grey aliens

  • haha at the end it looks like a human face but its cute(:

  • Imagine if you are walking through the woods alone one evening, full moon is up, there is no wind, just silence. The moonlight shines upon the fog on the fields. When all of a sudden; you hear this.

I would probably shit my pants and die from fright! Owls normaly sound cute with their little "hooo hooo", this is more like "wwhhhrriiiiiiiiiiii"!!!! Wierd part is; this is the most cutest owl there is : )

  • @Cemensulca my bowels would instanty empty and my intestines would come out :P

  • @Cemensulca

THIS IS WHY THEY WERE CALLED GHOST OWLS

  • @Cemensulca

dont forget the ghost face. hahahaha

  • @Cemensulca northern saw-whet owl is 2082345082358 times cuter

  • lol fucking stop that, then maybe you wont have to be defending from the guy trying to knock you out!

im kidding, i know it is natural

  • how sad..poor owl!

  • My friends cats starting freakin out when they heard this lol.

  • my dogs don't seem to like the noise either! LOL

  • are you serious? This is a nest in a barn far away from me..not a cage.

  • hey, hey, hey!

    i was just sayin..

    don't take it offensively.

  • That isn't a cage. It's a nesting box put out for the kestrels' benefit. Birds are free to come and go.

  • It's just doing the South Park goth kid dance.

  • lol u thought she or he was gonna get all horny in a flippen kestrel nest??? U even seen a kestrel? Baby ones can tear apart your hands without gloves. It was either trying to nick the nest or telling the kestrel it's his/her territory, get lost :L Nice vid tho

  • that is a matter of opinion...;-)

  • Barn owls are butt ugly.

  • What are you talking about, they're awesome!

  • glad you figured out the screeching and figured out it was an owl!

  • Thank God I now know what that ungodly sound last night was. I heard this right outside my window and thought somebody was torturing something...and I couldn't even imagine what.

  • owls all like "AHHH something touched me i can see anything, but theres something on the floor squish it squish it. AHHHHH!!!" 1:27 ... "wait.... i dont hear anything.... mabe it was a bad dream."

1:55... "ohh crap thy're filming this arent they"

    lol silly owl :D

  • LMAO :)

  • @uberman460 hahahahahahha, die, DIEE!!! hahahaha

  • Woodro92 lol but I think she was pissed off and not in the mood lol

  • do a little dance, make a little love get down tonight

  • Pissing off a raptor should be taught in 1st grade.

  • Poor practice not to give the date of the recording.

I've not heard this vocalization or display after watching two and a half nestbox seasons from the Cornell feeds. Wow.

See youtube dot com/watch?v=1b3QO1TdD28 (clip from this box dated April 16-17 2007). My guess there is that the hole is actually sized for barn owls; that a kestrel started nesting first; and that a returning barn owl was unhappy and fought for its usurped habitat.

I need to find out whose nesting season comes earlier.

  • I usually post the same date I record...and I usually post the date...April 5th. Kestrels have been nesting in the box for the past few years..and seem to have a run in with the Barn owls after eggs are laid. There is a Little Owls nest on the other side of this barn but they are never a problem. After the Kestrels 5 fledglings left last year pigeons moved in or morning doves...one of the two.

  • The Kestrel pair has 6 healthy chicks...I think that is what they are called. All seem to be doing well at this stage. Amazing how the parents can feed all these mouths!

  • Comment removed

  • Barn owls are not affected by photoperiod like the falcon which normally starts nesting in the spring. Competition for nest sites is common amoung raptors of the same and different species.

  • Sorry that is no mating dance or vocalizations. Those are defensive stomps and vocalizations indicating something is bothering the owl. If that is a serious attempt to provide a nest box for Kestrels I suggest the opening be greatly reduced to the proper hole size to accommodate Kestrels and very "little" else. Should a kestrel use the box with the current opening (which is very doubtful) any progeny would be setup for predation by numerous wildlife species. Making your efforts a waste.

  • I thought I posted this response after you enlightened me....thanks for the correction of my wrong interpretation.
