It's a synth meaning it's a stand alone device. You are thinking of a midi controller which has no sound on it but can control synth sounds from a CPU and/or a Rack.

You'll need an amplifier+speakers since You won't get much volume from the line out on the microX and driving the speakers directly would be a failing mission.

Some MIDI controller keyboards like the CMEs can even be equipped with a hardware synth/piano bord :)
