The AR-15 platform doesn't support .308, that's an AR-10, and a .308 wouldn't drop an Elephant. .338 is only good if you're talking about the Lapua Magnum or other precision rounds, and that's not an assault rifle. So no, an assault rifle will not kill an elephant, just piss it off.

Obviously you can't shoot .308 out of a rifle chambered for .223, but that has nothing to do with the platform. 7.62x39 is cheap dirty steel cased inaccurate and corrosive. Thats why its cheap.
5.56 is clean burning and made with reloadable brass cases and better cleaner powders and primers. Hence the price.
1000rds of 7.62 is $200
1000rds of 5.56 is $260
Most 5.56 will shoot 2moa out of an ar15 and down to sub MOA with rifles. I've seen 5.56/223 shoot 1/4" out of a target gun.
NO 7.62x39 will shoot 2moa out of any gun.

Obviously not as much as the 47's 7.62 and definitely not as much as the previous mosin's 7.62x54mm but the curvature is still there. Please know ur shit before u talk

I have a huge bullet that i found in my grandfathers house after he passed. It is huge I think it some kind of .50 caliber round. It has A09F printed around the primer on the back of the shell and the whole round is almost as long as my 2/3 the length of my hand. and i know its not a 20mm it to small for that and it is jacketed. anyone know what this is??

The AR-15 platform doesn't support .308, that's an AR-10, and a .308 wouldn't drop an Elephant. .338 is only good if you're talking about the Lapua Magnum or other precision rounds, and that's not an assault rifle. So no, an assault rifle will not kill an elephant, just piss it off.
Also, an AK-74 shoots the 5.45x39mm round as opposed to the 7.62x39mm AK-47 round. Get your facts straight.

@JDPatriot First off the AR-10 is built off the AR-15 platform, its modeled to be just like if for easy use and comfort. Obviously you can't shoot .308 out of a rifle chambered for .223, but that has nothing to do with the platform. Secondly poachers who kill elephants do it all the time with their good ol dirty ass AK-47s It happens all the time so its not a matter of it cant kill them, just a matter of how many bullets its gonna take. Not ideal, but the cheap old military FMJ rounds work.
