  • Hi, I've been thinking about buying a Nikon D3100, particularly because it does such great videos. I heard a lot of stories about the compatibility of this camera with iMovie 11... I was wondering if you knew anything about that. A speedy response would be much appreciated. Thanks !

  • what is the music?

  • @DirectionChange Says it at 1:29

  • Thank you for mentioning what lens you were using. Some don't do this and that's pretty irritating, tbh.

  • I love Ur song

    what call it ?

  • @ModarGh Says it at 1:29

  • you can also mount up and use manual focus and adjust the focus ring back and forth , looks pretty cool

  • isnt the 50mm lens only an af not af-s

  • @MrYoyoaddicted - No, the Nikon 50mm f1.4G AF-S is an AF-S lens as the name implies. :-)

  • @ArtoftheImage oh yes Ive only seen the normal 50mm lens that's why I asked you the stupid question :D thanks for the replay :)

  • Did u have to manually focus this lenses... while u were recording

  • @kslim1997

yes he had.. focus set a either max or minimun, then just pan around

  • wew, what lens did you use?

    MIDNIGHT BEAST MONSTER!!!

  • So this 50mm lens has autofocus on the D3100 even though the camera itself doesn't have a built-in lens focus motor? I know that with the 50mm f 1.8 D the auto focus does not work.

  • @Gibsonsoup - Yes, AF-S lenses have built in motors.

  • Could I film a person in fullbody with a distant background with this lens and this camera and achieve a background defocus?

    Highly thankful for answer!!

  • @LunaCherry2 - Yes.

  • I WANT THIS CAMERA SOOO BAD.

  • Thats good stuff.

  • elmo died

  • @counce2 The cookie monster shot elmo for not giving him his cookies!

  • amazing dolly shots!!

    Bravo indeed!

Did you use a tripod and a rubber band? Or do you just own a dolly track?

  • @biggyshack - I used a DIY dolly made with skateboard wheels.

  • @ArtoftheImage "I used a DIY dolly made with skateboard wheels."

    Got a tutorial for this?

  • @ArtoftheImage filmriot?

also, whats the name of the song?

  • Good test video. Love the 50!

  • what are the best settings to get a great clear picture with a blurred background and a fast shutter speed?

  • @dannylameo depends on the lgiht, but you generally have to have a fast shutter speed and a very open aperture.

  • would you recommned the 50mm f1.4G over the kit lens (18-55 f/3.5-5.6G ED11)

  • @masni92 not over but both are good :) 18-55 is a very good lens tbh. not like 17-55 2.8 obv. but very very sharp for a kit lens. 50mm 1.4 is fast and creamy bokeh.

  • @devonly2

creamy and bokeh ? :D yeah, though about the 50mm 1.4 cause its pretty cheap, and yeah, but its not AF lens, but manual is the way to go.. besides do you have any idea why i got the 18-55mm ED11 instead of the VR one ? :D and will the Stabilizer help much ._.

  • @masni92 the 50mm 1.4G is cheap aswell and has AF. If you bought a d40 or early d60 you get the old 18-55 . VR and VRII is here now.

  • @devonly2

umm no i bought the D3100 kit (18-55) (in europe)

  • its basically manual focus , and then leave it and pan in and out ?

  • @masni92 exactly.

  • nothing special but the combination of the music & the video is a little bit of magic.. nice camera

  • So depth means blurriness? I just got this camera and I know nothing about camera terminology.

  • @hakiro6 It means where the focus is

  • @TheAvery86 Thank you.

  • Do you think I can get this results by using the lens that come in the box? (18 to 15mm)

  • @TheLeticiaBertin

    i think you meant 55 mm ::)

  • @TheLeticiaBertin by no means am i an expert but from what i've learned so far i believe the f stop range for the kit lens is 3.5 to 5.6 or somewhere along those lines

with that i'm sure you can achieve a depth of field effect but it won't be as drastic as another lens with a low f stop number range of let's say 1.8

again i'm not expert but i hope this helps

i did a bit of researching and studying the past few days so hopefully my information isn't faulty or anything

  • @TheLeticiaBertin - No, you need a MUCH faster lens. You could get very similar with the Nikon 50mm f1.8 AF-D.

  • @TheLeticiaBertin I hope you mean 55mm and not 15. If so, then yes. You probably already have gotten the answer, but I love to reply stuff! :D

  • @TheLeticiaBertin did you ever find out if it works the same? C= i lurve lurve lurvvve this camera qual. =DDDD

  • Loved it! But it kinda blurrssss too much

  • @TheLeticiaBertin Hence the title of this video is "Depth of field"
