There used to be surfing just west of the Lighthouse on the ocean side. If you search for Montauk Surfing Report on Google there are a few sites that tell where the best surfing is going to be and the tide schedules etc. One I know of is surfline dot com. Sorry, but YouTube doesn't allow links in comments.
I go to Montauk every year in the first week of august. I like Ditchplanes. But that Beach Behind the IGA super market, kicked up a nice swell when i went.
Fun stuff - it's a gas to see all that youth, grace and strength. Oh, and energy! Good golly, the energy. Even in the one guy with a little maturity. Good stuff and I could listen to the sound track forever. By the way, I really enjoyed some of your creative editing.
@thizizliz Thanks, Liz. I have mentioned before that the creative vids don't get the views, but some of my older ones have legs and get views over a long period of time. It doesn't really matter, but it's nice to know people still watch after all the work creating them. It's a boutique business :) But thanks to you for always being there and supporting what I do.
This is both visual and auditory hypnotism! Unfortunately, there is still an undercurrent of music from "Jaws" whenever I see "Montauk" written anywhere.
You'd think that memory would be faded after the thirty-five years since I read the book...
@fehquig I thought about it when I was shooting. One part hoping nobody got hurt, another part thinking how great it would be to get a shark attack on video :) I am a camera whore. It's sad.
@jimisru I share your thoughs. I was also glad to see some folks (a couple of men and one woman) more my size and age out there. I felt a sense of pride for the old guys who still get out and take risks. But some of the young ones made my heart flutter.
Nice footage. All summer long I thought about getting up early and getting footage of the morning surf in Santa Cruz. Maybe I'll still do it. Someday. Thanks!
@kenrg That would be great. Even greater, if I lived out there, I would keep track of the winter storms and see when the big waves are crashing at Mavericks off Half Moon Bay. You're not that far from it. I would love to see that. You'd need a really powerful zoom to capture it properly. If I had the opportunity, I would consider it worth renting a pro camera to shoot it. When I win the lottery I'll come out and we can collaborate on it :)
@sunsetlover Even the older beer bellied bodies were nice, just for the fact that they still get out there and do it, some of them quite well. But the young ones are especially lovely :)
@FantasticBabblings A shark attack can happen in 2ft of water, thought you might like to know lol. Better chance of lightening striking you than a shark attack.
@scorpionkings I'm sure that's true, but they would probably be the smaller sharks, except of course for land sharks, and I'm hoping they get full nibbling on the people in deeper water before they get to me :)

This made me thirsty - ?!
OhCurt 1 year ago
@OhCurt Well, you don't want to drink that water. It salty and sharks pee in it.
FantasticBabblings 1 year ago
@FantasticBabblings My mom used to say she didn't drink water because of 4 words. "Fish. Fuck. In. It." lol

@DynaCatlovesme On summer weekends it gets crowded. There are accidents occasionally, but I didn't see one this outing.

I kept waiting for Roy Scheider to suddenly start yelling: "Get out of the water! Shark! Get out of the water!" :)
Seriously.. some nice footage there!

@RustleAbout There have been Great Whites seen in this water. I never go out any deeper than my knees.
