I cook sitting down too because of my lumbar vertebrae, and I'm dicing onions your way from now on. BTW I only watched the first 1.5 min of your video. Thanks for posting!
People remeber this is a chef, he knows. hes explaining how to cut an onion. he will be faster in the kitchen, and if hes sitting so what he know where his fingers are. hes a chef he knows. this guy rocks. :)
Holy crap dude... you cutting skills suck, and excuse me.... but wtf are you doing sitting on a stool?!?! stand up! watch your fingers and learn how to sharpen your knife...
in the time it took this guy to cut off the root and peel the onion i coulda gone through at least a pound of onions. anyone can look like a chef when they put on the coat n hat *wink wink* and this lazy ass is sittin in a chair while doin this.
3:17 of overproduction, 10 seconds of content. It's no coincidence that someone who claims there's only one "right way" to dice an onion seems so taken with himself.
On the other hand... this is a great audition tape for Hell's Kitchen (US). Fox is always looking for deluded gasbags who self-destruct in front of millions.
That is true, I "should" be free to announce that I am gay, but so is this video...this was one of the worst instructional videos I have seen. I am glad you liked it but that just shows how little you actually know.
Aww, don't worry buddy your jaded negativity does not affect me. I only feel sorry for a sad 40 year old tryin to match wits over a comment I left over a month ago.
HA, you are turning out to be funnier than I first expected. Here's to agreeing to disagree. You really should find a better and more efficient way to develop your knife skills.
x-actly. if he kept the root end on he could cut almost all the way through and get more onioion out of the onion, so to speak, instead of chopping anything off. Then he would be able to cut much closer to the root when he turned the onion
But whatever floats your boat. Let's not start WWIII over an onion : D
may be you are right for your own way, but its not the best way to chop an onion, there are other several ways to do so in better ways and i do what usual chefs do.
lol... its just an instructional video buddy... hes not at his workplace so he doesnt have to be standing up... can u not read the description? he is a chef!
wrong. You need the cross cuts because at the side the 'petals' you speak of are going vertically and so you wont get a consistent size. And what's the point of using a paring knife to cut the root out, when you're going to throw that away anyway? It's easier to peel after you've cut it in half too.
Pretty poor. In the time it took you to pare out the bloom and root ends, and peel the thing, I could have the entire onion diced to 1/16" by cutting in half but leaving the root ends, doing the cross cuts and chopping.
Like the other poster said, why cut off the part you're going to throw out anyway. Wasted motion, wasted time.
I just posted a dicing onion video that is a bit more descriptive and does promote the cross cuts. Cross cutting is necessary to ensure consistency in piece size - an integral part of cooking.
obviously u are a tool and a douche bag for not even having the guts to do soemthing like this..yes he may just be a chef in some dodgy italian ristorante or whatever they are called but he has kahonies unlike you so stop putting down the man and make something of yourslef YOU BUM!!!
In the other videos, only the root is chopped off. Then after doing the cutting and the slicing from the root side onwards, the head bit that is left is then thrown away, which might save some time.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know it takes more time to throw away one end of the onion than it does the other and work towards the opposite end which then get's thrown away as well in either case. Very infomative.
haha! omg! epic music! at the end its like omg! he did it! he made it! he cut the onion! when all hope was lost, one man, the legend that is, chef tomatzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Why does every "Chef" on you tube make a vid of cutting an onion How about something a bit more INTERESTING or maybe difficult? Things that any mook with a knife cant cut. An onion WOW how amazing, a onion?!? How about breaking down a 60 lbs pig or butchering a 1/2 a cow something that can be useful filleting a whole fish maybe start small work your way up to the pig.... Onions psssst wtf Sorry brother I cook 2 and it just pisses me off EVERYONE cuts a GD onion.
VRONICA03 Do you think the word AMAZING really applies to this vid? It is just a onion And with that said, Instead of "suspecting" Try it out its just a 24.5 cent onion Grab a 5 LBS bag and start cutting... AMAZING?!?!?!?!?!?!? Really?!?!?! NAAAA
hey prick, the term 'amazing' was in reference to the chef's awesome theme music, manner and quality of instruction. there are many onion cutting vids out there, but this one is the best. also, i hope you get shot for writing like THISSSSS!!!@?$!!!! douche.
