@BLOEDVLEK fords just changing with the times not everyone needs a truck tho everyone does not want a mini van with 7 seats plus not everyone needs awd to do day to day stuff but if you want awd you can still get it and if you want a truck theres still a range of trucks and truck based suvs (tho im expecting less of the latter as time goes on)
I drove the new explorer on the wknd, nice vehicle fit and finish quiet cabin not to much wind noise or road noise but. I would like to see ford add the V6 ecoboost engine to the explorer like in the F150 its a great engine and I believe they would sell alot more but ford has to take in mind they have to keep it affordable. The V6 I drove was ok but a little over priced. If ford does find away to mate this ecoboost V6 engine with the Explorer give it a sporty aggressive look.
It would be better if they offered a V8 as an option for the die hard fans and had stayed true to the body on frame. Also I hope that you can get a sunroof that is a deal maker for me. I have a 5.0 V8 mountaineer and love it.
its just a huge very over priced minivan. A true SUV has a steel boxed frame like a truck and has hauling ability hence the name SUV where U is for utility.
@dave777blaster The difference is the Ford is a large vehicle that can comfortably hold seven people, fuel economy is pretty good considering. The Nissan is very capable but much more cramped inside. Families need the space, not a low transfer gear. In short, buy what you need.
@DrivenCarReviews@dave777blaster I agree with both of u but Ford should have called it something else and let Familes drive this thing and ppl who really want a TRUCK drive a Explorer. And even though the Pathfinder is on a boxed frame it is still one of the best riding suv out there.
@bigphat200 From a weak V6 210HP making at most 20 hwy, thats a great improvement....if you need something more efficient, take the 4 cyl eco boost, but with less power...
@wtrdogg20 So the Ford is 210 hp, because the Isuzu is 250 hp. I see most ppl driving the Isuzu is only getting 16 but i have a stick shift with leather interior which btw is something car manufactures are getting away from. I short shift a lot which gets me over 20 mph and lets me keep up with traffic. Don't get me wrong I am a Ford man at heart but the American can industry really needs to step up it. There is so much more engine chooses to choose from over sea's. Accountants running Ford.
Well, I checked one of those in a Car Show we had in town, It seems to be a great car...However there is something that still does not convince me. I think is the internal panel and dashboard junctions that are still not refined...I could actually find and feel sharp plastic edges in the Explorer and the new Focus dashboards. Still it seems competitive.
@bigphat200 And that is for a front wheel drive version. Jaw-dropping fuel economy indeed.
On another note, I wonder how in Asia they manage to carry two adults, a child and a bucket o'stuff on a scooter, but the Americans somehow NEED a 7-seat behemoth? Global warming, accelerated.
@LeadHammer In Asia... There is no such thing as buckle your seat belt or a child has to be in a car seat. Here in USA you have to choose from "click it or ticket" and "child has to be in a car seat or a child protection services will take your child away from you for putting your child/ren in risk"
so whats the piece of plastic that breaks off supposed to do...did they just say that it's meant to do that so they don't have to admit that theres some quality issues and why does the motor rock around...mounts wore out already or what...i would never buy it..i wanted to see if it was a good car and my opinion is that for being a 2011 and a ford it sucks..i doubt it will last 5 years before something catastrophic goes wrong with the sync system or some other computer. thats just me though.
@montanachevy Hmmm...biased??? I've got a 2008 Focus with SYNC. The first vehicle that had it. My car not only still runs perfectly, but it's pretty peppy for a little 4 cylinder, it also sounds better than most other engines that small, i get 40 mpg doing 70 mph with A/C on between Houston and Lubbock. SYNC can understand what i'm saying when i talk in a normal voice doing 70 with the window down. Only complaint, is that it couldn't download my phonebook. But that's a phone problem, not the car
@gilljames10 But how often do you go far enough above 70 for that to really matter? I like the 2012, but i think an update to a 6 speed and the new engine for 2012 and then updating the body in 2013 would have even been alright. Honda and Toyota aren't doing anything, the only competition is really the Elantra. The Cruze isn't quite there yet.
@gilljames10 Yea and now i've got a new phone that my phonebook does work with so that complaint is gone. It does really have to rev to get above 70. I've gotten 112 going downhill trying to pass 5 big rigs that were in a convoy. But the Focus can hold a lot of stuff for a small car. I got a big plastic chest of drawers, a fridge, a microwave, 2 big suitcases of clothes, 7 or so full grocery bags, 3 12 packs of soda and other stuff all packed in for my dorm. Didn't block any windows at all.
lol I love the trip to Costco at the end of the video...cause thats exactly where I plan on getting the stuff thats going to fill up the back -- thats for sure.

17 city and 23 hyway ? where is the great mileage?

@dave777blaster maybe the unibody Pathfinder, but the 2005+ only gets 21mpg, and that's cruising at 60mph.

17 to 23 EPA= 21 @ 60 mph what;s the difference ?
they should stick an electric motor in it and make it a hybrid

@bigphat200 The old V6 4.0 engine in the old Explorer delivered 210 HP, only....The new engine in the 2011 Explorer is 3.5 V6, 280 HP....
wtrdogg20 10 months ago 7
@wtrdogg20 Yes, but the 4.0 delivered impressive torque for when it was introduced. Around 250.
