i agree with mikesfastgt, ALL new cars are shit engineering unless they are aftermarket tuned. nowdays all cars are more hindered and disfigured by safety regulations, results of lawsuits, and unnessesary complications such as cats, and electrical knicknacks that dont seem so knickknack-y when u have to fork up 40 or 300 to fix them at the dealership. an ideal car is an american truck made around 1970, manual, carburator, no limits. simplicity is key to functionality.
honestly, i hear you on a lot of that, but many US made trucks were carburetted in the 80s and some in the early 90s. However, i hate carburetors, they are finicky and just plainly aren't as efficient as fuel injection. Which is MUCH simpler than people make it out to be. About the tuned cars, super cars are in a completely different league, there isn't much you can do to make them better. Lastly, diesel is way better than gas
i also hear you on your facts aswell, i have been frustrated with carbs many times as well, but i rather use a carb to an i jection because its my preference. plus you can easily modify your cars power by adjusting the carb, an injector requires a chip or a timing adjustment which is more complicated. true, supercars are differnt than productioncars, diesel engines are the pinnacle of engine design, as they can run on anything that combusts.
honestly, its too bad about pontiac. i think its a poor choice by gm, but i guess you gotta do what you gotta do. they may not be the fastest, or a "luxury" by any means, but from what i can see they are the most reliable american cars around. i have had three pontiacs, all except one made it over 200,000(cause its an 06, hasnt got that far yet). had a sunfire that was well over 350,000 miles before we sold it, and it was crashed. but like i said, gotta do what ya gotta do.

Pontiac of today is not the same as it was in the 20th century. The only cool things they build anymore are the Solstice and the G8, which isn't even really a Pontiac.
I think GM should be following Toyota's business model, and just have 3 brands:
one luxury brand (Lexus), one midpriced/performance brand (Toyota), and one entry/youth brand (Scion)
They should narrow it down to Cadillac, Chevrolet, and Saturn (instead of getting rid of it).

Completely agree with you on that. Saturn to be honest wasn't even a good idea on paper when it came out. I think they should close down the Saturn and keep Pontiac so that they can still make the performance cars. Chevrolet and Pontiac need to be their prime concern along with maybe limiting the production of Cadillac vehicles since they are the high priced ones. Maybe that can help fix the spending limit of GM. But who are we but just mere youtube viewers trying to get our word out eh?

I have a buddy who owns one, he liked it for about a month, now can't rid of the piece of GM crap. As for the Saturn, that was a bad idea from the get go...Saturn is a planet, not a car! GM deserves what they are getting....too many crappy cars for too long a period. Should have paid attention to the Japanese!!

I was in total shock when I first heard that pontiac was getting axed. But seriously why? they say a new business plan would be able to keep only a few high-performance models, THATS ALL PONTIAC SHOULD HAVE EVER BEEN! The reason it is getting killed now is because of useless models like the Vibe, chevy you take the econo cars leave the Hi-performance to the big dogs, ok?

Buick had its day with a couple of muscle cars in the late 60s early 70s but nothing like Pontiac. My sister had a 77 Firebird Formula, You couldn't kill the car.

Pontiac of today is not the same as it was in the 20th century. The only cool things they build anymore are the Solstice and the G8, which isn't even really a Pontiac.
I think GM should be following Toyota's business model, and just have 3 brands:
one luxury brand (Lexus), one midpriced/performance brand (Toyota), and one entry/youth brand (Scion)
They should narrow it down to Cadillac, Chevrolet, and Saturn (instead of getting rid of it).

They said in the video that it was the third most popular brand, not #1.
And they also said that some existing models may still be sold as Pontiacs, just that the majority of the line would be distontinued.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Solstice and G8, but in the last few years, the Pontiac brand has largely become GM's dumping ground for lo-po captive imports like the Vibe and G3, and most of the rest of the line isn't that great either.

GM is by far the stupidest company to ever exist. Instead of eliminating useless brands such as Saturn, which simply have copies of other brands' cars, they eliminate one of their most successful brands. Pontiac has the Solstice, the G8 GXP, and back in the day we had the GTO.
If GM goes under I will not care. They are idiots anyway. Just keep Chevrolet running, they at least know what they are doing. (Cobalt SS, Corvette ZR1, Camaro, etc)
Good thing I bought Ford stock when it was cheap.

Completely agree with you on that. Saturn to be honest wasn't even a good idea on paper when it came out. I think they should close down the Saturn and keep Pontiac so that they can still make the performance cars. Chevrolet and Pontiac need to be their prime concern along with maybe limiting the production of Cadillac vehicles since they are the high priced ones. Maybe that can help fix the spending limit of GM. But who are we but just mere youtube viewers trying to get our word out eh?

nope not true at all...I am going to sell it at some point, not sure how soon or later, but i will definitely make money off of it. Pontiac getting axed actually up'ed the value of my car because the rarity of it, mostly because the #2 vin (aka first consumer car ever of that model because #1 went back to GM)

While i have to say I'm saddened by the loss of pontiac it was there business decision to make. However I did watch the fld where Derek D went to the plant to watch as his car was being built and was surprised to see his reaction today while informing us of pontiac's demise. I mean why not just go back to the factory you toured and slap them in the face-their future just got the axe and all you care about is the value of your Solstice going up? Shame on you.

I'm gonna miss Pontiac, but at the same time I hope the become the Niche brand and keep to their roots of nice muscle/sports cars. Hummer should have stayed in Military hands and Buick really hasn't had much of a place in GM marketing in a while. Cadillac is nice to compete with BMW and Lexus. Saturn may not be the best, but it was pretty much the entry level badge of GM. As for Chevy, well they are to all over the place with entry level to trucks to performance. They have to break it down IMO.
