Being an 03 in silent drill platoon makes you a POG. Not only do they not deploy to combat, they don't deploy at all. They have no combat training besides SOI. I bet they aren't even issued flaks.

@CAR These guys are The Silent Drill Platoon from 8th and I. To be in this unit you have to be a 0300 something MOS. 0300's are grunts...... I was a POG, Grunts get shot at, aircraft fire control technicians like I was don't so much......... Sure, I think this is funny. Marines have the right to poke fun at ourselves. But SDP Marines are grunts, it's a rule.

As a former 0341 I always felt these commercials featuring the Silent Drill Team gave the wrong impression of what being a Marine is. It would be great to see more commercials for the Marines with guys in action, in camo, etc. There are a few of them, but I wish there were more. Semper Fi!

@jimmykhawk - In the Marines, it doesn't matter if your a grunt or a POG, everyone can still deploy and get shot at. And as for the Silent Drill team, they're almost all selected straight out of boot camp. So no combat experience yet. Big waste of time IMO.

Also, since the description implies there's a serious statement behind the humor, I feel I should address that.

The military isn't all combat. Putting combat in the video is sort of stupid, since it only really applies to a certain fraction of the Marines and the commercial wants to cover something all Marines can relate to. That is to say, courage, honor, commitment, discipline.Drill team exemplifies all of those.
