I hear Brett bitched about his pink chest in this video. Stop bitching Brett you are a babe and babes are pink, at least from the Anglo persuasion. Just a thought from some NDN queer from Oklahoma, moving on now I'm feeling old. I realized I was 14 in 92, damn I miss the 90's.
i hated suede back in the day but funnily enough i like em now. brett copped a lot of flak from the media when he said that he was a bi-sexual man who never had a homosexual experience.
@metal1313 Did he? I don't remember that at all. If anything, people thought he was something of a hero for touching on a subject that was still quite taboo. Of course, having an out gay man in the band put him back in his place two lines on in the piece. (I was a huge fan way back when. Not so much after Butler left. Or at all really.)
I appreciate Suede's aesthetic. They were a total departure from what was happening at the time, with grunge being immensely popular and dance influenced indie dominating the music scene of London. They were different yet accessible a combination of high and low art. Very stylish, very British. Love.
haha I loved this along with Animal Nitrate and Metal Mickey when I first saw this on MTV europe at that time!!! I loved the whole discussion whether the singer was gay or not...
Sony is blocking some of these Suede videos depending on your country. They are a bit too late. I've watched these videos hundreds of times. What are they scared of?
@dosometh1ngpretty Correct. I think a lot of people don't give them their due for that. The order of the beginnings of Britpop: Suede first, Blur second (though they were around first), Oasis fourth. Wasn't it Elastica third?
@icjs I haven't heard the Charlatans. Stone Roses maybe, but they started the Madchester thing. Britpop drew a lot from the Roses though. No, not The Smiths as they were way ahead.
@MartinFTW I agree. I think the reason why people don't credit the Smiths is a) they were way ahead of that, and defined British indie in general b) Oasis, Suede and Blur took indie to popularity heights that not even The Smiths reached; maybe The Stone Roses would've got that high. As Stephen Street said, it was unheard of for those types of bands to be going #1 and multi-platinum. It's true that without The Smiths we wouldn't have any of the above bands.
Seventeen year on and in... I still adore this :X I met this song on the ITV chart show aged 9 and my Brett crush has not dissipated, and the recent revival of my affair with Suede is more than splendid. Actually, exellent timing :D :D This song is so darned *mmmm* I can't put it into words, it requires actions!! Ans so, we drown... Mmmm, ok :)
No, but he liked to make it look like he was. Actually completely straight, he went out with the singer of Elastica until she dumped him for Damon Albarn. (Bad move in my opinion.)
not really, I think Damon is awesome, but then she left Damon aswell i think, and Damon wrote a song about ehr cos of it, No distance left to run i think it was called.
Remember getting this ordered from Our Price Records, because it wasn't in stock as no one had heard of them. When I saw this video on The Chart Show, If ell in love with them.
Good gravy. Even the singer had the "black slacks solid-color shirt" fashion thing on then. Seinfeld, Chris Cornell. Suede had the MUDHONEY/Sub Pop sound then, so good!
It's funny you say that...I'm not totally familiar with this band yet, but I knew exactly which one you were talking about with that comparison. I was thinking the same exact thing!

I guess it was mainly depending on B.Butlers song writing.
