@Rog3r0nth3b3at : Where did you put the WD40 and how did you get into the laptop to do this? I am having the same problem and am desperate for a solution. Your solution sounds great.
@Rog3r0nth3b3at : Thank you! I saw a video where someone had white paper under and around the computer and they wrote down where everything went, with plenty of notes. I'm scared to try it but I will have to so wish me luck! Thanks to everyone for the details. Talley-ho!
My Macbook pro's fans have not made a single sound for awhile now, and I'm wondering if they need cleaned, or taken in for repair. I used to be able to hear them run, but now I am met with silence. My computer has already overheated to the point where it has shut itself down to protect itself. I also have fan control installed to help make my computer run cooler since my house can get very hot in the summer.
@SETSUNA108 : Yes. Have your fans looked at if you are able. I'm trying to find out how to clean out the dust from mine, and perhaps use the WD40 mentioned here.
Oct 09 MBP, brought it 2 weeks before they went from the 9400 to the 320. Fan's shagged, growls, grumbles and vibrates like a mofo.
For those wondering it's a Sunon fan, farily standard and if you want to order it from spares & repairs places they charge £50 or so. But you can find it cheaper else where.
@CommentsSurvey sorry i took long, i thought first it was the hd but yea it was just the fan, i opened it up and took a qtip with wd40 around the fan propeller, then i connected the keyboard and turned on the power to see if i needed more which i did, turned it off, and apply gently to the propellers with the wd40 a little more, no more annoying noise now :)
@Rog3r0nth3b3at : Thank you! I'm afraid to open the case myself but there's no one here in Panajachel, Guatemala that can fix it so I'll give it a try! Thanks for the detailed instructions. I hope you post a video one of these days to show us exactly how to do it (opening the case and using the q-tip!) God Bless!
mmm.. hope not to repeat your experience, for now after change all is ok. If it's the second time you can call the apple store, let them order the fan and change it in 5 minutes when it will be arrived, this way you don't have to be without mac for days no?
i had the same problem, loud as a jet, all i did was put wd40 with a qtip and a little directly, no more noise :)

@bufferin : Were you actually kidding about using WD-40? Rog3r0nth3b3at said he used it.

I've been searching all over for a dissected video of the uMBP. Do you have any more video of yours with the bottom plate removed?
Thanks

i hve a ticking noise in a certain angle do you think if it would be a big issue
should i send it to them for a repair?
shayanrafizadeh 2 years ago
not a big issue if you can wait the time it coud take for rapair. If the noise is a defect for you it's tour right to ask it to be repaired
